New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi NickW557, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle ^connect!

Major changes:

• Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
• Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
• Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

Hi Nick, with regards to my edit on the Home Office page, please see the link to other pages with regards to the sacking of a medical professional 'David Nutt' who was sacked as an advisor to the Home Office for telling them that they were wrong on drug policy, he is a medical professional and probably knows a lot more than a suit in the home office about what should and shouldn't be illegal.

Bloody Sunday Objections and President Johnson

There is a pretty clear effort here to re-write history. For 50 years, Selma was NEVER referred to as Bloody Sunday.

Bloody Sunday happened in 1972, in Northern Ireland, in which 14 people were gunned down and killed by the British

That event was far more bloody. This effort to re-write history and co-opt history is offensive.

I don't know what your rules are on President Johnson, but again, this is a pretty clear effort to FABRICATE HISTORY

Im not too familiar with the edit pages, but it is clear that Im not the only one who had made the correct corrections, and some people are intent on re-writing history for their own present-day political motives.

Nick I apologize, however I am not familiar with how to respond to you - but it is clear that this is a valid dispute and not any vandalism.

In fact, it is at its core an effort by some people to rewrite history, which is extremely wrong.

Hi and thank you for your message. I did a quick Google News search here and found a significant amount of coverage referring to this event as Bloody Sunday. It is entirely possible for two events to be called the same thing when they occurred in different parts of the world. Either way, that is just my personal opinion. What I can say is that consensus needs to be reached on the article's Talk page in order to make the changes you want to make, as it is clearly controversial. Changing the wording in the article, and then adding your own personal commentary under it, is not going to help matters. The issues I have brought up are valid historical issues - and it appears someone else is trying to re-write history. It also it appears they are pretty insistent on keeping their fabrication on the internet

From my brief look at some edits pages, Im not the only one trying to get historically accurate information up

My question I suppose is how do we deal with this - my efforts to add additional sentences to clarify different points of view have now been called potential vandalism. It was not vandalism, it was an attempt to find some language that might be considered a neutral ground

Did anyone die in Selma? I saw a discussion about what really happened that day.

The article as it is up now has SIGNIFICANT historical inaccuracies - and that goes on to the points about President Johnson and the Voting Rights Act.

Most of this is settled history - there is some outside group trying to re-write history. Im just trying to correct it.

It appears Im not the only one either.

Selma to Montgomery marches talk section

Thanks for getting the talk section.started. (I had two edit conflicts as you and I were trying to post to Coyote's tp. I am a bit concerned about the number of editis adding similar material with similar self described motives. In the Bloody Sunday disambiguation list I added the same 'Bloody Sunday' cites for use of the name for the first Selma march on March 7, 1965, in the NYTimes in the same week, and a looking back article written a year later the gave a summary of the name's use for the event, as I did to the lede in Selma to Montgomery marches. I am sure that those with a sense of history realize earlier, similar Civil Rights events (broadly construed) lend their names to the minds of the participants and supporters of similar events. Not to put down popular music, but likely no writer expects to pack a history lesson into a song, rather that writer studies on history to write the song. Thanks again. Probable error: John of Toledo

The page "List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events" says that John of Toledo predicted that the end of the world would occur in the year 1186, based on an alignment of planets. I clicked the link for John of Toledo and found that it says he died in the year 1275. This seems implausible, since it implies that John either made the prediction of the end of the world at a date already past, or that he made this prediction (and people found it noteworthy) before he was of mature age, or that he lived well over 100 years. Perhaps someone could rectify this, but I'm not familiar enough with Wikipedia to know to whose attention I should bring it. I notice that you edited the page recently -- do you know? @Hadraa: Semi-protection, which you tried to request at WP:RFPP (request removed due to improper formatting), is not going to help your situation. Semi-protection only stops users without accounts and users with brand new accounts from editing. The users you are involved in an edit war with would be able to edit the article, despite semi-protection. I don't really think full page protection (where the page can only be edited by administrators) is appropriate here, but if you want to try to request it at WP:RFPP just be very careful to follow the detailed instructions at the top of the page. My advice is to continue discussing the issues on the various Talk pages and not engage in edit warring in the meantime. Wikipedia:There is no deadline is an essay that seems applicable. @Icahnt: Thank you for contacting me. In my opinion, the article still fails two important Wikipedia guidelines/policies: WP:N and WP:V. Content on Wikipedia has to be verifiable, not only to prove its accuracy, but to ensure that it is notable or important enough to merit inclusion in an encyclopedia. In broad terms, notability is established by significant coverage in independent sources. Saying "the sole source for that information is the podcast itself" indicates to me that such independent coverage doesn't exist. Since you've removed the WP:PROD tag, I do plan on listing this article at WP:AFD if those issues aren't addressed. I can wait a bit to do it, if you need some time to look for independent sources. @Jazmin7778:: Leads are the beginning of articles that provide an introduction to the article's subject. They are usually already there, prior to the first section heading. Sources are generally added by use of <ref> tags. You may want to check out WP:MOS which provides information on the way in which Wikipedia articles are generally formatted. @FreeatlastChitchat: Hi! I left you a reply here in response to your speedy deletion notification on the creator's talk page. There is a difference between not being notable and not making a credible assertion of notability. The former is a matter for a deletion discussion, the latter allows for speedy deletion. If an article makes a claim of notability, and the claim is at least somewhat credible (which I believe it is), then the article cannot be speedily deleted. Rather, a discussion must be created for consensus to delete. I hope this helps explain why I removed the speedy tag. IssueTrak issue tracking software article submission declined

Hello NickW557, Thank you for reviewing my article; it is my first time as a contributor and your feedback is much appreciated. The subject of the article, IssueTrak, was one of the first types of software in the category that includes FreshDesk, ZenDesk, Jira, and a host of others that have article pages. I felt it was appropriate for IssueTrak to be presented to as a resource for anyone researching that type of software. I studied the articles of the other software solutions and WP's editorial guidelines. I followed the format of FreshDesk, ZenDesk, Jira, Samange and others very closely. I included links to outside sources such as PCReview.com and G2Crowd.com, a popular marketplace for reviews of software solutions of all kinds, and internal links to WP articles about usages of the software.

Would you be so kind as to provide me with a couple of specific examples of where I offered promotional content versus information pertinent to the software it would be most appreciated so that I may make the necessary edits. @Screenwriter88: Thanks for your message! Yes, I'd say they should be. Per WP:ELPOINTS, external links in the body of the article should be avoided except in certain situations. That article had way too many; linking to every product name and creating a directory of software is not one of those situations. I think there has been some misunderstanding, I did NOT claim the file as "fair use". In fact I did not use the File Upload Wizard because the only option it gave me was "fair use" and this isn't fair use. It is, rather a permitted use under the license stated by the copyright holder on its website. Please see the below text which I included on the image description page (cut and pasted here):

"Permitted use: SPIE on its website ( http://spie.org/x113148.xml ) claims copyright of the original image from which the uploaded cropped, low-resolution image was obtained. SPIE on its website "Terms of Use" (accessed at http://spie.org/x35314.xml as of May 11, 2015) states, "SPIE images may be used for editorial purposes in public media only. The image is being used according to the use permitted by Copyright holder SPIE, i.e. according to their license terms stated in their website. This is different from "fair use".

I can if you like remove the parts about "minimal contribution" and "no commercial opportunities" if you think that muddies the waters, but I put that in because SPIE's license forbids commercial use. But if it is going to make people think I'm claiming fair use, I'll take it out.

@TheBlinkster: If you are not claiming fair use, then the image is subject to immediate speedy deletion (rather than with a two-day delay) under CSD F3 as being licensed for non-commercial use only. @TheBlinkster: No problem , that's why I went ahead and assumed you meant to use a fair use tag and tagged it as replaceable (allowing a two-day delay) rather than non-commercial use. The problem with fair use with this image is that the subject depicted is alive. One of the criteria for fair use images to be used is that they are not "replaceable" with Wikipedia-standard freely-licensed photos (WP:NFCC#1). The test is not whether a freely-licensed photo actually exists right now, but whether one could be created. Being alive and active in one's field generally means that a freely-licensed photo could be taken of the person, which is why fair use photos of living people are almost always considered replaceable and aren't used.

There are exceptions to this, but they are few. For example, you uploaded File:David McGreavy in the 1970s.jpg and listed a really good argument for why it isn't replaceable in your fair use rationale, since the person is in prison and someone being able to take a photo of him is highly unlikely. @Jasonbuti: Hi! In order for the image to be used on Wikipedia if your company owns the copyright, you would need to do one of the following two things:

1. Agree to release the image under a free license or into the public domain which allows anyone to use the logo for any purpose including their own commercial interests. I'm assuming that's probably not what you want to do, so on to the next way...
2. Use the image in a specific Wikipedia article under a claim of fair use. This keeps its copyright but allows it to be used for limited purposes on Wikipedia in a way that doesn't violate copyright law. In order to do this, your company will need an existing article on Wikipedia that isn't a draft (it needs to be a bonafide article). You will then need to comply with the non-free content criteria by listing a fair use rationale on the image page justifying its fair use. As it stands now, the image isn't used in any articles. Wikipedia does not allow copyrighted images to linger around unused.

Take a look at this page: File:Participant Media logo.jpg. If your goal is to replace that logo in the article with the logo you uploaded, you can use the fair use tag and the fair use rationale on that file's page as a guide for creating your file's fair use rationale. @JJH1947: Hi. Since the company owns the copyright to the logo, it can only be used on Wikipedia in one of two ways. Firstly, if the company agrees to release it into the public domain or under a free license that allows anyone to use it for any purpose, including their own commercial uses. If that isn't an option, it can be used under a claim of fair use but you need to comply with all of Wikipedia's non-free content criteria. The templates you will likely need to use are Template:Non-free logo and Template:Non-free use rationale logo. Bill Osborn photos

Thanks for reviewing the "Bill Osborn" article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Osborn) and the new image I uploaded. I'm confused regarding the "derivative work" copyright issue. The image is of Bill Osborn, the subject of the article, in the uniform of a team for which he played. The photo was taken by a family friend and given to Bill Osborn. It's unclear to me where the copyright issue lies.

If it's useful, this is the beginning of the message posted on my talk page:

"This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work."

Is there a particular annotation I need to make for this image to be acceptable? I very much appreciate your assistance and insight.

@Thepantry: Hi, thanks for your message. The issue with those photographs is that they are photographs of photographs, meaning that we have two different copyrights that have to be accounted for. The data attached to the photo indicates that the images were taken on an iPhone. If you took the iPhone picture, you own the copyright to that image, but whoever took the actual black-and-white printed photograph in the photograph owns the copyright to that. It is that underlying copyright that has not been accounted for, which is why the images are tagged. You need to indicate who took those photographs, and show that they have agreed to release them under the license you've released the iPhone photograph under. I know it is a little confusing. Basically, if you took a photo of a movie poster with your phone, just because you own the photo taken with the phone doesn't mean that you own the movie poster in the photo. Its the same thing here.

The family friend of Bill Osborn that owns the copyright to the original photos can follow the instructions here to release their rights to those images. --Nick—^Contact/_Contribs 16:19, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

image undelete request

Hello Nick,

I edited the "Rhomboid protease" entry on May 19th adding a new image (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:S-E_complex.png&action=edit&redlink=1). This was later deleted by you because of copyright concerns. Unfortunately I couldn't attend to this earlier to dispel the copyright concerns. I have made this image myself and it is based on a figure in my paper that is open access and I own the copyright to it. So there is no copyright problem. Could you please restore the image on the page.

@Hcns: Hi, thanks for your message. No, I'm afraid it wont. The issue with the image is that it is a photograph of a living person being used under a claim of fair use. According to Wikipedia's non-free content guidelines, non-free images of living people are considered replaceable because it is possible that someone could take a photograph of the person themselves, and then release that photo under a free license. An administrator will review my reasoning, as well as your reasoning, before making a decision about deleting the file. Any license he chooses will need to allow anyone to reuse the image for any purpose, including their own commercial interests. The only thing that can be restricted is specifying that he must be attributed as the copyright holder and/or that the image be reused under a compatible license. The Creative Commons attribution share-alike 3.0 license is just one example of a license that he can use. If he does decide to choose a Creative Commons license, he cannot choose any of their licenses that have a "non-commercial" or "no-derivatives" clause; these are not compatible with Wikipedia's free content policies. Because you are not the copyright holder, you cannot release the image under a license on his behalf. He will need to contact the Wikipedia OTRS team directly by following the instructions at WP:CONSENT and sending an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. I hope this helps. @Chocolatechip65: Hi. The problem with your choice of license for these screenshots is that you do not own the copyright to the website you're taking a screenshot of. If you go to an art museum and take a photograph of a copyrighted piece of artwork, you don't suddenly own the copyright to the photo just because you took it. The copyright of the underlying work prevails, and the same concept applies in this case. If you had only uploaded one image, I would have suggested converting it to a claim of fair use, but you're not going to be able to create a large gallery of non-free screenshots under that policy. --Nick⁠—⁠^Contact/_Contribs 03:44, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

In the first place, the photos you've seen are my original shots because my own camera was used in shooting the landmarks. The technical details about my uploads are included in the information page of those photos. There's no final decision yet about freedom of panorama because the case does not reach the High Court of my country. So maybe it's too early to decide. If you scroll to the bottom of the text section using their on-page scroll bar (not the browser scroll bar), you'll see a sentence below the listing of staff names that says "The text of this page is released under the Creative Commons Zero Waiver 1.0." The website seems uncooperative with some browsers but I just checked and it's still there. Let me know if you need me to screenshot it for you. Culture+Travel magazine image

Dear Nic,

Thanks for so quickly responding to my request regarding the images of Culture+Travel magazine. Understood on the topic of multiple images, my intention was simply to make them available, not to create a gallery using all of them.

What I would like to do, is follow this example of showing a cover just like is done here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_%2B_Leisure

The cover image shown there uses the same fair use as I would like to use for the Culture+Travel page. If it is deemed by wikipedia to be relevant for that magazine to use an image to illustrate the topic, then it should be exactly the same in this case too no?

Plus on the example that you gave, TIME Magazine, actually two covers are shown to illustrate the history, so I think given that both these examples use the "fair use for magazine covers," the same should apply here.

Therefore my suggestion would be to use two images just like with TIME - the first edition cover (09_2006_CULTURE+TRAVEL_COVER.jpg), and the redesign cover mentioned within the article. [05_2008_CULTURE+TRAVEL_COVER.jpg]

@Dougoinsf: Hi! Thank you for your message. No worries about not knowing the process; image uploading is one of the most difficult processes to get familiar with on Wikipedia because of the legal implications involved. I need to preface this by saying I can give you my opinion, but this is not legal advice. Generally, trademark issues and copyright issues are two separate things. Wikipedia only requires you to waive most of your copyright rights related to the images, not your trademark rights. The most restrictive free license we probably allow users to license their images under is the {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} license, the full text of which can be found here for you to review and decide for yourself if you are retaining your trademark rights.

It should be noted that the logo you uploaded (File:LifeAid Logo.jpg/File:Life Aide Beverage Logo.jpg) doesn't necessarily need to be freely licensed to be used, if your article is approved. Once your draft article is accepted as a mainspace article, you could upload the logo as fair use, but only after it is accepted as an article (so it would need to be deleted in the meantime if that were the option you wanted to go with). @Rberchie: Hi. You go to WP:TAGS/FREE and pick a free license that you want to release the image under. You then place the appropriate template on the image description page by editing the page and adding the template code. For example, if you want to release the image into the public domain, you'd put {{PD-self}} on the page. Mostly an oversight. Usually the header instructions are the least-followed part of the FFU instructions, so to be honest I wasn't paying enough attention to the header to realize it contained your requested destination file names. For the record, have you ever edited the Nanak Shah Fakir article with a different user name or as an anonymous editor? It seems odd to me that a brand new user would jump right in the middle of a content dispute. If you are using this account as an alternative for another account you had in the past, you should disclose the connection between the accounts. Editing an article from multiple accounts to get around edit warring accusations and/or to make it appear that your side has more support is a violation of WP:SOCK and will likely result in serious blocks. Edit warring is disruptive, and anything over 3 reverts in a 24 hour period is an automatic violation of policy (fewer may still be a violation of WP:EW). PrimeNotice was given an edit warring warning and continued to revert anyway, now amassing almost 15 reverts today. For this reason, the issue has been referred to WP:AN/EW. Let's take a look at a dictionary definition of that term: verb (used with object) 1. to utilize, especially for profit; turn to practical account: to exploit a business opportunity. 2. to use selfishly for one's own ends: employers who exploit their workers.

Both definitions apply in this context, as Paul Simon leveraged his wealth and celebrity in order to solicit source material from impoverished South African musicians, without crediting them as authors. This is explicitly exploitative.

Hi Nick, the links you provided can really be useful. I appreciate it, but i would like to ask you one more question. Somali Wikipedia is not as rich as English Wikipedia, there are many missing tools including most of templates. When i copy a template from English Wiki, mostly it doesn't work in Somali Wikipedia. It says "there is a loop", "something is missing" et cetera. My question is how to create "a simple" template when the one i copy does not work. @Ismail4all: No problem! Templates are a tricky business, and I'm only good at the most basic of templates. It's likely that the templates you're trying to copy over are dependent on other templates that might be nested inside of them, which when not present on the Somali Wikipedia, cause the template to break. The starting place for template help documents is Help:Template, which gives a basic overview. There are several other pages dealing with advanced template parameters. Most, if not all, of these pages are listed in the "See also" section of that page (Help:Template#See also). Hopefully these help you! The Files for upload page essentially boils down to a page where you can request that another user take the responsibility for uploading a file on your behalf, when you don't have an autoconfirmed account. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to upload the image, because I don't believe doing so would comply with policy. You can always create an account (it's free! ) and then consider uploading the image yourself. @Mark5522: Hi. Thanks for your messages. In regards to this image, there are some concerns. I don't doubt that you assembled this image yourself, but it appears to be a derivative work, meaning it is made up of other copyrighted images that you might not own. For example:

1. The logo. You've included the logo for the Center for Morton's Neuroma in the bottom-right corner. Do you own the logo? You said you're affiliated with the center, but do you have the legal right to release their logo under a free license? If you do, are you sure you want to? By releasing the entire image as a whole into the public domain or under a free license, you're releasing the incorporated logo as well. This means that anyone can reuse the image, as well as the logo, for any purpose, including their own commercial interests.
2. The background image. Did you personally draw the image of the foot with the red shading? If this was taken from another source, it retains the copyright of that source. We'd need the source of the image identified so that we could make sure that it is freely licensed as well, with a license that is compatible with the license you've selected for the image as a whole.

What I suggest to you, is that jumping through these legal hurdles really isn't necessary in this case. As I mentioned before, if your goal is to make the article easier to locate for those using the alternative names that the image lists for the condition, your best bet is to create redirects for all those alternative names, which will forward users searching for the condition by those names to the article in question. Then, once they've located the article, the alternative names can simply be spelled out in plain text for everyone to read without needing to illustrate them in the form of an image.

Nevertheless, these are just my suggestions. If you're intent on uploading the image, and can answer the above questions in a way that allows it to be uploaded and can provide proof upon request, then the image can be uploaded. However, because of the intricate copyright concerns here, the Files for upload page is not the right venue. If you wish the image uploaded, please follow the instructions at WP:DONATEIMAGE to correspond with the Wikimedia OTRS team to confirm permission for the various components of the derivative image. @Galyna.symphony: When you write the draft article, you will be given the option of submitting it for review by an experienced editor when you feel like it is ready to be reviewed. If you do that, and the reviewer doesn't think it is ready to be approved, they will help you by providing the reasons why it couldn't be approved, and likely some suggestions for how to overcome those shortcomings. They probably won't help you actually write/edit the draft, but they will provide feedback. Your draft will only be quickly deleted if it meets our strictest and most serious deletion criteria, namely if it is a copyright violation, unquestionably blatant spam, or an attack page. Otherwise, even if it would qualify for deletion as an article, it would only be "declined" as a draft, giving you time and suggestions for improving it, rather than being deleted.

As for whether or not I think you should continue with the Tigga Tower project, I have no idea. Mainly, because the Tigga Tower article got deleted before I could read it, and I do not have access to view deleted content.

@Alicia leo86: Hi. Unfortunately for non-free content purposes, "replaceable" doesn't mean that a freely-licensed replacement exists now, it means that a freely-licensed replacement could be created. For photos that illustrate living people, it is almost always assumed that they could be replaced because the person is living so someone could take a photo of them and freely license it. Oddly enough, the images I think you're referring to were actually uploaded by a different account (Zahidullah122), and then Aakash1990 came along and tagged them as his or her own self-work. One of them is, IMO, a blatant copyvio and I've tagged it for F9. The other one, which I don't think could have been taken from Google Street View since there does not appear to be any Street View coverage of that area, is suspicious but not obvious, so I've listed it at WP:PUF. I've replaced the "needs more sources" tag to a slightly different one that indicates that the article needs more inline citations. It has references, but reading through the lead section (which is too long, by the way - most of that info can go into sections within the article), it is unclear which sources are providing what information. This is where inline citations come into play, by directly attributing facts to their cited sources. When he emails permission, it's important that he's giving permission for the image to be licensed under the license you chose (or another acceptable free license), and that he's not just giving permission for "Wikipedia to use it". The image has to be usable under a license that allows reuse by anyone, even for commercial purposes. After such an email has been sent, edit the image page to include the following code to the "Permission" section: {{subst:OP}}. This will flag it to indicate that a permissions email has been sent. Hi, New to this, so forgive what my be dumb questions. I'm trying to polish up the entry on Tom Adams. As he's an illustrator, I'd like to use images. I took some images from his own website. @Barnetts1615: When you uploaded the images, you tagged them making a very specific claim—that the copyright owner (I'm assuming Adams himself) had agreed to release the images under the GNU Free Documentation License. This is an important claim, because you're saying the owner of the copyright has allowed anyone to reuse the image for any purpose, even their own commercial purposes, if they follow the terms of the license. I think I got really confused with the process. I had assumed since Adams himself put them up there on his website, that it was ok for it to also be on Wikipedia. @Barnetts1615: So Tom Adams would need to email our Wikimedia's email response team giving authorization for the images to be released under one of these free licences. It is not good enough for him to say that he gives permission for them to be used on Wikipedia, unfortunately. He needs to say that he is willing to license those images under a free license that allows anyone to reuse or alter the images for any purpose (including commercial purposes), provided he is properly attributed. The most restrictive license we allow is probably the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License. If he's willing to do that, he would follow the instructions listed at WP:DCM. I hope this helps.

@ArtiBarti: Please don't be rude on my talk page. Wikipedians need to work together, civilly. It is understood that uploading images on Wikipedia is one of the harder things to get right, because we have so much policy governing image use. This is necessary, though, because there are serious legal implications that go along with using images on the web. Non-free images have to have a detailed fair use rationale that explains how the use of the image complies with each of the non-free content criteria. Your rationale is lacking, and in the case of WP:NFCC#3b, contradicts policy. If you have any questions about how to resolve these issues, feel free to ask. discussion re/ images of Chaetodon larvatus and Priacanthus sagittarius

Hi Nick, Thank you for your comments re/ the two images I have proposed for Wikipedia / Wikimedia. I have read your texts, and also referred back to the original files. One file in my view is freely available to Wikipedia under its original terms of use, which are specified. However, there does seem to be a problem with the other one. @Rthome25: Oh, that makes more sense. The bot that came is not the bot I was talking about. It was tagging the page indicating that there is file history that needs redacting. Unfortunately, you removed the tags before the bot I was talking about (User:Theo's Little Bot) could resize it during its run today. If the tag is left in place, the bot should do it tomorrow when it makes its daily run. The bot will then replace the {{non-free reduce}} tag with a different tag indicating that the reduction has been completed, and that the history needs to be redacted. Leave these tags in place. An admin will come along later and do the redaction, and then remove the tags. In the meantime, I'll remove my warning to you, as it was a misunderstanding. Fair use rationale for the Utah Teapot

@Sleepcircle: Thanks for providing the proposed fair use rationale. It's actually rather well worded; better than some I've seen from experienced file uploaders, so good job! That said, I've sort of declined the request, and here's why:

I'm not convinced that use of the non-free image in the article satisfies WP:NFCC#1, because one could argue that the textual description of him drawing it by hand on graph paper is an acceptable alternative. When I read that sentence, and then view the image, I'm seeing precisely what I expected to see based on the text description, which could mean that use of the image isn't critical for understanding the article. I tend to be a bit conservative about such things when uploading them under my own account, though. So, once your account is autoconfirmed, if you disagree and would like to upload it yourself, I won't be the one to nominate it for deletion. It may even survive a deletion discussion if someone else nominates it. Who knows? Nevertheless, I've come up with a bit of a compromise: I've included a link to the image in the article using the {{external media}} template. Polio Children

Hi Nick,

I am trying to contribute to the wikipedia page Polio Children. It is a charity from my local area that has done great things for disabled children in developing countries.

I work alongside the UK trustee who has provided me with photographs to put on the wikipedia page to supplement the text and give a visual representation as to the type of work they do.

However, when I upload them they are taken down by yourself due to uncertain copyright laws. I can assure you that all the pictures we have tried to use are owned by the charity and are in use across our websites and publicity materials. All photos that we try to use that we haven't produced ourselves, we have got permission to use them freely from their creators.

Please advise on how we can upload these photos to Polio Children wikipedia page without the risk of them being taken down.

@AdamRovers1990: Hello, thanks for the note. In order for these images to be used, you'll need to have the owner of the copyright (who gave you permission to use them) send an email to our OTRS team following the format & instructions found at c:Commons:Email templates. They'll need to agree to license the images under a free license that allows anyone to reuse or alter the images for any purpose, including commercial purposes. Terms such as "free to use on Wikipedia only," "free to use for non-commercial purposes," and "free to use for educational purposes only" are not allowed. Thank you for your prompt response. I posted a response in that thread, though I'm not sure if that pings you. So, I'm putting this here as well.

I respect Wikipedia's stance and have no intention of subverting it. I'm struggling to understand the burden of proof I am failing to provide. A third of all his prominent Web mentions turn up information on the incident. Almost every post he makes on social media has at least one person reference the scandal. He has been interviewed about it on the radio multiple times this year.

Rannazzisi made a concerted effort to align himself with the attacks to build his career. His multiple retellings over several years demonstrates how integral this personal narrative was to his career path and public image. He isn't accused of lying about escaping the South Tower of the World Trade Center on 9/11. It's proven he did that for 14 years. This is who he consciously presented himself as. His biography is incomplete if this incident isn't mentioned in the first paragraph.

@Bzuk: Hi. Did you send the email in question to the OTRS permission team? See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries. In the email from the copyright holder, they'll need to specifically state what free license they're releasing the image under. See WP:TAGS/FREE for acceptable licenses.
