Speedy deletion nomination of Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. How has its importance not been indicated? edit

I think that the importance of the article I have created is clear. It is a small organization, but in line with other festivals such as the Toronto Jazz Festival or the Beaches International Jazz Festival It is important because of its historical venue, its planned yearly event, and the students and faculty members from the mentioned educational institutions. Please help, thanks. Claytoncarmichael (talk) 03:50, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi! In order for an article to be included on Wikipedia, it has to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Generally, a subject has to have been the source of significant coverage in reliable, independent sources - see WP:GNG. The article currently only links to websites affiliated with the event/organization. If you want, I could move the article to Draft space where it is allowed to exist for quite longer, giving you time to get it up to Wikipedia's standards. As it is now, it is live in article space, where all the standards have to have already been met. Just let me know if you'd like me to move it to Draft space. If not, it can remain in article space until an admin gets around to deciding on the deletion. Cheers, NickContact/Contribs 04:32, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
The usual criterion for inclusion in Wikipedia is explained here. Very basically, we only summarise information that's already published in reliable sources that're independent of the subject. We do this to ensure both that our information is verifiable, and that it can be written neutrally. If you have any questions, please ask. Cheers, WilyD 10:27, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
So, I can't speak/read Korean, which makes it fearsome hard for me to evaluate the sources (for the most part). My impression is that they're about Underground Jazz Festivals in Korea, though (which I think you're also indicating), so while they might be useful for an article about the Underground Jazz Festival in Korea, they wouldn't be helpful for a Toronto Underground Jazz Festival article.
