I suggest that you use your admin discretion and cut off TPA for this editor. I don't see why vandal-only accounts should be allowed any kind of forum, and unblock requests can go through UTRS. Privatization in Croatia

Hello Monty845. Recently you put full protection on this article. I've reviewed the edit history since May 1 in some detail and I noticed two people reverting eight times or more. I'd propose that we lift the protection and would be willing to apply blocks to the two parties who have reverted the most. Both have previous block history. This is not to take away from anyone's good intentions, just that they shouldn't be able to fight endlessly on this kind of article. If they were temporarily out of the picture, those remaining might be able to compromise. What do you think? Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 01:20, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

My sense is that the problems between and with the parties (all three) runs deeper than just the edit warring, I posted an AN/I thread WP:AN/I#Privatization in Croatia seeking some input to find a solution, but it hasn't gotten much attention. As I mentioned there, I have no objection to the removal of protection if something else, such as the blocks you propose, is done to deal with the situation, so if you want to do that, feel free to remove the protection. (Response I was going to make and AN/I before it was closed) This is the reason why trying to enforce civility is a bad idea. Different people have different standards for where they take offense. People get emotionally involved in a discussion, and say things that are intemperate, and then a big discussion blows up over it. When it turns out the person who makes the complaint does the same thing under certain circumstances, it just highlights why it its a bad idea to try to enforce it. We can argue about different levels of justification, and different levels of offensive language, but what it really comes down to, is that trying to fight moderate levels of incivility causes more harm than good. Until you are getting into WP:NPA territory, its better to just turn the other cheek.

To be clear, I would not normally criticize you for saying that, or things considerably more uncivil. Its only in the context of saying it in the very thread you started to complain about the incivility of others that it has significance. Monty₈₄₅ 03:44, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

@DissidentAggressor: Restored the talk page as requested. As for the article, it just didn't meet the criteria for speedy deletion, as the article does make clear he is important based on his membership in Thela. I became aware of it at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Speedy_deleting_old_pages and so went about the process of getting it restored. However Dean Roberts does not currently pass any of the notability criteria, the band isn't any better referenced, and there are issues (or a complete lack of) notability sourcing on the other members too. It would be perfectly reasonable to nominate at WP:AFD, though maybe give it a day or two to see if anyone at VPP can find a reference. Monty₈₄₅ 20:39, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Its common that a conflict on Wikipedia can escalate when there is a potentially ambiguous statement, and editors make different assumptions, without asking for a clarification. Precision of language can sometimes help diffuse a situation, while it doesn't always work, sometimes it really does help. So, no, I wasn't trying to engage in sophistry. Hair splitting also isn't lying, and while hair splitting could sometimes be considered disruptive, calling it lying wasn't really a fair characterization, and if the hair splitting is all that was being disputed, wasn't really helpful to the discussion. Here's a much more reasonable way: the sign clearly and unquestionably is meant to say "No Assholes Zone", the asterisks provided are intended as nothing more than the barest fig leaf to which BMK can smugly point and claim it doesn't say "No Assholes Zone", feigning ignorance in the most shockingly dishonest way. And the message itself is unnecessarily insulting, unrelated to encyclopedia editing, and is really just a way for BMK to lash out pointlessly at people he doesn't like, or to pre-emptively communicate to people who intend to disagree with BMK that they are "assholes" and thus not welcome on the page — which point view is always confirmed by BMK's responses, which involve various flavors of insult or simply deleting the comments outright and tossing some sharp barbs into the edit summary and, with alarming frequency, proclaiming that various users are "banned" from his page (because BMK does not like engaging with people he disagrees with — prefers to snipe them at range). It couldn't come more squarely within WP:POLEMIC which is one of the reasons why I removed it in the first place. I thinks your case would be stronger if in the first comment he hadn't copied exactly what was there, but he did, and readers could judge for themselves. While I think the sign is distasteful, I'm not sure it rises to the level of WP:POLEMIC, as its not targeted at a specific editor or group. Unless he makes reference to the sign when talking to someone, its sort of a situation where a person would need to self identify as the asshole the sign is referring to. As for an editor banning people from their talk page, I think its becoming much more common to see, and its a worrying trend. If done at all, it should be a last resort before being justified in asking for an interaction ban, not something an editor regularly invokes. But the community has thus far chosen to give a fair deal of respect to it when an editor requests someone stay off their talk page. I'm not really sure what to tell you on that one. There is perhaps some room for improvement on the policies here, but I think he is currently within the borders of what consensus (or at least lack of consensus to do anything about it) will tolerate. So I've finally figured out what was going on here. Factchecker_atyourservice is quite proud of his use of the English language, and may even fancy himself a bit of a writer, but, in fact, he utilizes it very poorly. He kept saying "It says 'No Assholes Zone'" and my comeback was no, of course it doesn't say that - because it doesn't. What Factchecker_atyourservice actually thought he was conveying was "It means 'No Assholes Zone'" (or "No Asshole Zone", I won't quibble about singlar or plural at this late moment) and of course it means that, any idiot can see that. Less precisely, but more expressively, it means "I don't want any assholes darkening my day by posting on this talk page", but it doesn't say that. Factchecker_atyourservice had best get his ducks in a row and understand the words he's using before he runs around Wikipedia accusing other editors of lying, and lying about the lying. It's also interesting to note that Fatchchecher_atyourservice is monitoring my talk page so closely that he notices that I "[make] very small edits that shift the asterisks into different spots that yield a zero-byte edit summary and thus make it hard to spot..." It's one thing to monitor another editor's talk page as a "talk page stalker" who will jump in on discussions or offer assistance when necessary, but an editor who's paying such minute attention to another editor's talk page as Factchecker_atyourservice describes is hewing perilously close to WP:Harrassment. I would suggest that since I have banned him from my talk page, Factchecker_atyourservice's continued monitoring of it serves no useful purpose, and he would be best off taking it off his watchlist. @Super-gel:It is not my place to judge what is the right or wrong version of the article. See WP:PREFER. You were involved in a protracted edit war, with little to no history of discussion, and the protection is to stop that, and hopefully result in discussion on the underlying issue. If the discussion does not resolve things, follow the Dispute Resolution Process. Again though, I don't know which of you is right and which is wrong. If the substance of the IP editor's content is true, than at least some note regarding it should be in the article. Its not a case of vandalism that is exempt from the restriction on edit warring. So, go try to have a discussion with the IP editor on the article talk page. I also asked for some independent input from the Wiki-Project on Amateur radio, who may be able to help form a consensus one way or the other. Monty₈₄₅ 16:01, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

@Weegeerunner: We all make mistakes; doing RC patrol, I once reverted and warned someone for signing a user space guest book without realizing it was a guest book intended for people to sign. Another admin, just today, accidentally deleted about 100 pages created by an innocent user because they misclicked and thought they were mass-deleting the pages of someone else. We just need to do the best we can, keep working to improve the encyclopedia, and hope our mistakes are never bad enough to earn spot at the Wikipedia:Village stocks. Gender pronoun for Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry

As an FYI, regarding your use of "themselves" in your comment at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Sockpuppet investigation block/Proposed decision#Recall Election Procedure, User:Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry self-identifies on his user page with a presumably male name, "Richard". There is a series of templates such as {{them}} that can be used to automatically generate the user's preferred gender pronoun. So if you use {{them|Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry}}self, that will generate "himself" If you use that same template with my bot, who has not specified a gender, {{them|B-bot}}self, it will generate "themself". If you use it with an editor who has self-identified as female, e.g. {{them|Moonriddengirl}}self, it will generate "herself". --B (talk) 16:42, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

AE question

Hi. I don't know if you remember me, but you were kind enough to provide direction to me during this unpleasantness. Since then, the editor continues to adhere to consensus, and now has reported me on (I think) 4 other noticeboards. I was simply going to ignore it, but it's getting a bit ridiculous. You had mentioned perhaps taking it to AE, but I went there, and I'm not sure it applies, since it asks for what sanctions I want HughD to be held to. Other than being blocked 4 or so times in the last 3 months, I don't think they've ever been sanctioned. One of his latest postings regarding me has been closed, much to his chagrin, but I think there are still a couple more open. Not sure what to do at this point. I'm not asking for you to get involved, but since you were kind enough the last time, I was hoping you could provide some direction. Not sure this constitutes harassment, but it sure looks like it.
