queries and comments edit

N4AOF: I have no expertise on the topic of this article, BUT the "redirection" from "Amateur Radio Operator's License" is totally ridiculous. Amateur Radio is a world-wide activity and Amateur Radio Operator Licenses are issued in very nearly every country in the world (as well as some entities that are not countries). Singling out one national article is an active insult to every other country in the world - this article is a minor sub-set of the article Amateur Radio N4aof (talk) 15:55, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Easily fixed. It's not like anyone proofreads on the Wikipedia. You see something, fix it! --Wtshymanski (talk) 17:17, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Purush_79:

Its disturbing to see an Indian map in an Indian article showing parts of Kashmir and Arunachal pradesh as disputed areas.Did anybody observed it or just being ignorant?Would somebody please replace it with the official Indian map which represent our regions properly please? =purush_79 «Talk»= 13:30, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nichalp:

To save my inserting a few inline comments:

  • I was concerned at "a service that is practised".
  • "which were illegal under the laws of the British administration"?
  • Check my rewording of the Minister.
  • I presume you want to go with the spelling out of two-digit numbers ...
  • I've reversed the ham number and name on first occurrence, but I'm unsure now, since the rest are "name (ham no.)".
  • "uncensored economic news"—was it that narrow in scope? Not political news?
  • You want to retain the autoformatting? It's no longer mandatory, and there's a move to encourage people not to use it in the main text. See my talk page for the disadvantages. But it's totally up to you.
  • scramble? Need to explain in a short phrase on the spot?
  • The History section ends with a bit of a thud. Nothing to round it off? The future? Unsure.

I'll return to look at the rest. Tony (talk) 15:28, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Tony. I'll take a look tomorrow. Just one thing to point out: By convention, the call sign is always placed after the name, parenthesis is optional but commonly used. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:03, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Replies
  • Governments around the world classify it as a "hobby and service"
  • Not sure which specific laws, but this law definitely Indian Telegraph Act, 1885
  • that's fine
  • no preference really
  • answered above
  • That's what the source says, I've broadened it by removing "economic"
  • I'd stick with the autoformatting for now. There are only two instances in this article.
  • Removed the word "scramble"
  • Not sure how to end the history section. There are two: One is the proposal to simplify the licences and renewal (mentioned in =Licence categories= (last para) and the other is the formal inclusion of ham operators as part of the disaster management plan in Mumbai in 2008 (mentioned in =Actvities and events=). I don't have any other information. :( Should these be added?

=Nichalp «Talk»= 14:26, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Mumbai 2008 sounds good. Talking of license categories will jump the gun on that section.
  • Why not reverse the order of "Call-signs" and "License categories", since the former refers to the latter? Tony (talk) 12:02, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
    Good idea. =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:31, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggest merge edit

There are three closely related articles on amatuer radio in India; perhaps these could be usefully merged since there's a lot of repeated content. --Wtshymanski (talk) 19:21, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

The articles can usefully be merged as there is indeed considerable overlap. Further, the article Amateur Station Operator's Certificate has too vague a title as it gives no clue as to where on the planet it is discussing. You only appear to have identified two articles that you propose for merging. Can you provide some sort of clue as to the third articles identity?
