I'm sorry, can you provide me with a link in reference to Wiki formatting rules that clearly state and outline the issues you have cited? I have seen numerous articles about school districts on Wikipedia and pretty much all of them have looked similar to the PGCPS article. Furthermore, this article has been in existence for quite some time and has been revived by other editors on Wikipedia, and none of them felt a need to radically change the theme of the article, until you came along. The Accolades section was placed at the beginning of the article, to provide a quick glimpse of interesting facts and figures about the school system. Burying something so minute at the end of the article, looks tacky and out of place. I don't "own" the article, but I painstakingly created it from scratch as it seemed like no one else was willing to, and when I see someone "desecrating" the article rather than "contributing" to it, I make it known. None of your edits were very cohesive at all. The article looked rushed and unprofessional after the edits you made. I appreciate you adding the "Transportation" section. That is something I've wanted added for a while but I didn't have the resources to do so. As in the WP:WPSCH/AG#Sections of the article (guidelines set forth for school articles), history generally comes first in school articles and districts. In WP:WPSCH/AG##School district and List of schools articles, Dallas Independent School District is where I was coming from. In all articles on Wiki, they all follow some chronological order, starting with the history. The reason why the awards should go last is because you start off with some random awards and facts about schools that the reader has not even been introduced too, which is why when the reader starts off with the history they understand more about the district, then when they know about the schools available, and they will understand where the awards are coming from and understand why they are given. I especially see it this way since this is the district I attend, its a more better read. Even if you still disagree, the formatting of the titles still have to be reverted to my version because they are unencylcopedic in the sense of using characters for words, and the unneeded capitalization of words.--Truco 503 05:01, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request to have some photos I uploaded deleted... edit

I was just wondering would it be possible to have some pictures, that I previously uploaded, deleted? Some of the pictures were uploaded a long time ago under an old account that I no longer use because I of technical issues. I'm not sure how to prove the account belonged to me. The reason I want to delete the pictures is because I want to upload some new pics and some of the new pics will make the older pics redundant. If deleting the pictures isn't recommended, what other course of action should I take. I want to add pictures to a particular article I have contributed highly to, and I don't want to have a bunch of redundant pictures cluttering up the article or the site. I should also mention some of the pics in question are hosted on Wikicommons so I'm not sure if that makes a big difference. Wal-Mart edit

No need to be a jerk or disrespectful. You aren't a site administrator. No one tried to turn the Walmart article into an article specifically about the Laurel location, but since they are MY pictures, and I can't post pictures belonging to anyone else, I thought I'd include them since unlike most of the other pictures, they were pictures of what a modern Walmart looks like. There are no other pictures in that article that shows a really modern Walmart, an thus the pictures are relevant. You really need to simmer down and mind your manners. Please read WP:CON if you haven't already; if you have read it, perhaps you should take a closer look. Consensus is a cornerstone of how Wikipedia works. Also read WP:5P while you're at it: "All of your contributions can and will be mercilessly edited". If you can't accept that, perhaps you need to find a different project to spend your time on. I'll re-phrase it, then. Toddst1 removed some portions of the article, based on guidelines at WP:NOT and prompted by a discussion at WP:AN/I. Your edit summary said, "Added citations; general information; fixed some formatting issues; added a new photo." What your edit did, though, was to restore 24,201 bytes of text that Toddst1 had removed earlier in the evening, and which he explained in his edit summaries and his explanation on the talk page. All I'm saying is that a couple of other editors have described problems that they saw with the article, and if you think the material should stay, then you ought to explain why on the talk page. I'm not sure how old you are, but I'm sure that had you actually taken the time to look at the edits I made instead of being so quick with the mouse clicks being Wikipolice and such, I wouldn't have to point out to you what's fairly obvious. I made a significant amount of edits to the article... edits that took me several hours. It would be clear to even the least brightest person on Earth that those edits couldn't have been done in two seconds. I didn't see a single one of those edits you are referencing. Between you and Toddst1, I seem to be about the only person who's following the recommended Wikipedia rules of editing. Toddst1 made a significant amount of edits at the same time I was doing my editing. The difference with me, is that instead of me making numerous edits (which is a violation of Wikipedia policy), I made one big edit and kept using the "Preview" feature to look at my edits, before I hit "Submit" to make the final edit. If you do the edits the proper way (the way in which I did it) Wikipedia does not show you any edits that have or are being made by another user, in the process. I didn't have a clue of the edits you were talking about, until AFTER I submitted my edits and then you came flying through here with accusations instead of first asking questions.--Maryland Pride ... a Wikipedia contributor (talk) 07:39, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
If that's the case, then I extend my apologies. But that same edit could indeed have been done in a matter of seconds by using the "undo" link (like you did here), or saving an earlier version in the article history (see Help:Reverting), and either way it would look exactly the same to an observer (such as myself). By the way, making successive edits (I assume you mean like Toddst1 did) is not a violation of any policy, it just makes the edit history longer to read. I do remember a long time ago when I read Wikis policies on editing, one of the first comments was that they felt very strongly against making constant and successive edits. So I try not to do that. Hi Maryland Pride. Although I don't think we've ever interacted directly, I do recognize you as someone whose edits I frequently come across as a frequent editor to PG County Public Schools articles and It's clear you're here to contribute as constructively as you can. It's unfortunate that our edits collided, but let me assure you that my making numerous edits is in no way a violation of policy. Rather, they are directly in line with policy and purposely well summarized.
I see that you've added a variety of very useful sources to the article and by ignoring the edit conflict, inadvertently re-added a lot of the ill-considered lists/lyrics/etc., back to the article. Frankly, it's not that big a deal to me. The work you were doing required a lot of research and hard work and I will certainly yield to your edit. However, I'd strongly encourage you to go back and remove the course catalog, photo gallery WP:BLP issues, etc that I removed. Basically, I'll re-instate your edits, and perhaps you could (unfortunately, manually) reinstate mine.
Fisher, I appreciate your vigilance here and stepping in, but the paragraph above is really the crux of the issue.

Thanks, Toddst1. Just to give a little insight, I've made a lot of changes to this article over the years. I used school articles that Wikipedia has specifically stated were to considered quality articles, as an example. So a lot of the lists that you take issue with, are actually found in most (if not all) articles that I've used as an example, such as Stuyvesant High School, Brooklyn Tech, Baltimore City College, etc. If you could do one more thing, can you please tell me what edits you would really like for me to revert? I loved what you did with the photo gallery. I didn't realize I had undid something. Please let me know. And if you have the time, please specifically point out a few other issues you still have so I can take a look at it. I appreciate your contributions. re:song removal at Northwestern High School (Hyattsville, Maryland) edit

Hiya MP!

I read your note, and I am sorry it took so long to get back to you ... twice I had a reply on my to-do list, and I got sidetracked each time.

The short of it: This really falls under WP:NOTPROMOTION, and WP:PRESTIGE. When you include information about a school having a band, orchestra, choir, etc, that is encyclopedic information that should be included, if it is properly referenced. When you start including recordings of random pieces of music for the band, it comes across as promotional. It is not really giving any information about the school, as much as it is showing off how good the music program is.

There is an additional issue regarding copyright. The music is almost certainly protected, and as such, it cannot be posted on Wikipedia. Even though the performance is that of the school band, and even if you or another editor made the recording, I am fairly certain that the music is itself still protected ... generally when school's purchase sheet music for bands, as I understand it, they are free to perform it, record it, and allow for the audience to do the same. However, that does not mean that the recordings can be distributed so freely.

Just having taken a fairly quick look at the article, I think some more trimming may need to be done before the article can move up in classification.

Hello. Thanks for your continued efforts regarding the Northwestern High School article. I do have some issues with the edits. You mention "boasting" but I'm honestly not seeing what you're referring to or if you're just referring to one particular thing or several things. There are some things you deleted completely that seem fine. There are other things I'm completely puzzled about, especially considering I've had to go back and forth with a few administrators (in the past) to find out of the content you ended up deleting, was acceptable for the article. I've listed my issues below:
  • I think the fact that Northwestern is the only school in the world LEGALLY allowed to use Jim Henson's name, is noteworthy and should be included.
  • It seems like you removed the entire section which provides insight on the method of scheduling used by Northwestern. I've never seen anyone flag that as a potential issue. It's definitely relevant. It might not need to be detailed - and it definitely needs a citation or two for legitimacy - but to completely remove it has me scratching my head right now.
  • Removal of the Academy of Engineering and Academy of Finance logos seem premature. I checked to see if they could be used to indicate they were authentic programs and it was found that it was. Neither of the images have been flagged or questioned by the many other admins that have seen the images.
  • You removed some information about the International Studies Program that (again) I'm not understanding the potential conflict. It sights program requirements. It almost seems like 'either way' scenario. You could leave it or ommit it, but it's not necessarily anything that would go against any policies imposed by Wikipedia.

I am aware of the (erroneous) flagging and deletion requests of a large amount of my Wikipedia images. I have responded to all of them, and as of now, there may only be ONE image which may be slightly questionable. I think the problem that Steven had was the same that I had when I first looked at it. Where it says "quick", what it means is brief. Write a brief explanation of the dispute. In dispute resolution, it is best for the people reading it to be able to go and assess the situation from a neutral perspective (and this necessitates a brief/quick description of the situation). Toyota lead images edit

Thanks for adding new images to many Toyota articles. And thank you for removing that hideous bright orange traffic cone from the new Tundra image - that was the major reason I reverted it. However, there is no policy for having the latest model as the image in the lead. Image quality is considered more important than the particular model shown. Also, your edit summary "Any reverting needs to be discussed in talk. No one has a single final say-so" has missed a core Wikipedia principle. Anyone is allowed to edit an article. And anyone is allowed to change or revert what you edited. And further editors are allow to change, revert or reinstate what both of them did. Usually good edits survive and poor edits are removed by conscientious editors. Most reverts do not need discussion (e.g. outright vandalism). However, when two editors have a disagreement about the value of an edit, we follow the guidelines at WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Which means you make your initial edit, I revert it and you start a discussion on the talk page. We then work it out (possibly with help from other editors) and edit the article according the conensus gained. Otherwise somebody could add a line such as "The Tundra get 1000 mpg" and your method would require us to tediously talk about every such change. Hope this clears things up. Regarding the reverts of the Corolla and Tundra articles: As I mentioned above, any editor is allowed to add or change something and any editor is allowed to further add or change it again - including reverting. The first revert is treated as uncontroversial. If you feel that your work did not deserve to be revert then WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle tells us that the proper method to follow is to discuss it on the talk page. But note that the discussion is required before the second revert, not before the first revert. Which means your reversal, not Mr Chopper's revert, is actually the one that is not following the rules.
Also, there were no 'childish hissy fits'. He expressed his opinion in a calm manner that he thought the previous photos were better. You are entitled to express the opposite opinion on the talk page (after the first revert) to see if other editors have any wisdom to add about the photos. It wasn't a calm manner. It was sarcastic and condescending. Add to that... you and I had already discussed this issue, previously. This is why I try my best to stay off of Wikipedia. This site is chaotic, disorganized, and filled with edit nazi's who never follow the rules they tell others to follow. This site is promoted as one that encourages others to contribute, and when they do contribute, they have face trolls who make this site so contentious, you don't want to even bother. I'm not going out of my way to discuss the matter, because from prior experiences, I've found that discussing the matter leads to nothing but me coming out 'the loser' in the situation. I've gone through edit disputes with people where I was told three different things by three different people, and each time I did something to comply with the wishes of one editors, another would come along and tell me I was wrong, and the cycle continues. So, I won't even bother. You can keep the crappy pics or change to others. All I know is, for a site that's begging for contributions to stay afloat, Wikipedia will not endure much longer since most people are being chased away. I've been watching this account for a long time now and I'm getting a bit tired of these rants. There are thousands of users who can follow the rules and get along fine. If you want to stay off Wikipedia, just do it. Nobody is compelling you to edit. You clearly haven't been trying very hard as you've operated multiple accounts to get around past blocks. Regardless, this is a collaborative project and if you make edits, you may required to communicate with other editors, and you are expected to do so in a civil manner. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be editing, it's as simple as that. I've reviewed this incident and all I've seen is users calmfully explaining things with you giving them a mouthful of abuse back with an apparent refusal to get the point. You have been warned that such behaviour is unacceptable before. You have also been told very clearly that once reverted by an editor, it's inappropriate to re-instate the edit without discussing it on the talk page as per the bold, revert, discuss cycle. An exciting month of wiki events! edit

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

Explanation for NHS edit of June 13, 2014 edit

Maryland Pride, I hope this information can relieve any confusion about NCES information for private and public schools. I just want you to know that according to the CCD School and District Glossary from NCES (URL: http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/commonfiles/glossary.asp), it indicates information that are relevant to public schools and school districts. NCES does indicate a school status for private schools under their use of directory information. However, they do indicate this for public schools. The reason why I remove the related NCES indicators for status because it would be unnecessary to indicate a school status from NCES knowing the indicators are only relevant to public schools not private schools. In the CCD School District Glossary, the classifications include currently operational; closed; new; added; changed boundary; temporarily closed and may reopen within 3 years; scheduled to be operational within 2 years; and reopened. The attributes/classifications are not generally used in reference to "status" parameter. The Great American Wiknic and other events in July edit

 

I am pleased to announce our fourth annual picnic, the Great American Wiknic, will take place at Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 5 PM (rain date: July 20). We will be hanging out by the statue of Dante Alighieri, a statue that was donated to the park in 1921 as a tribute to Italian Americans. Read more about the statue on Wikipedia. July will also feature the second annual Great American Wiknic in Frederick, Maryland. This year’s Frederick picnic will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Baker Park. Sign up here for the Frederick picnic.

What else is going on in July? We have the American Chemical Society Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, July 12, dedicated to notable chemists, and our monthly WikiSalon on Wednesday, July 16.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon edit

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Museum hacks and museum edits edit

Hello there!

Upcoming events:

  • February 6–8: The third annual ArtBytes Hackathon at the Walters Art Museum! This year Wikimedia DC is partnering with the Walters for a hack-a-thon at the intersection of art and technology, and I would like to see Wikimedia well represented.
  • February 11: The monthly WikiSalon, same place as usual. RSVP on Meetup or just show up!
  • February 15: Wiki Loves Small Museums in Ocean City. Mary Mark Ockerbloom, with support from Wikimedia DC, will be leading a workshop at the Small Museum Association Conference on how they can contribute to Wikipedia. Tons of representatives from GLAM institutions will be present, and we are looking for volunteers. If you would like to help out, check out "Information for Volunteers".

I am also pleased to announce events for Wikimedia DC Black History Month with Howard University and NPR. Details on those events soon.

Proposed deletion of File:PGCPS Logo 2011.png edit

 

The file File:PGCPS Logo 2011.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused logo with no article used, it's also can't move to commons because of an unused logo will be deleted as of out of project scope.
