Vendor-Biased External Link Section edit

Jordiferrer,

I read the article "ERP System Selection Methodology" (you were the latest Wikipedian who have edited it) and wanted to share some feedback with you—please tell me whether it's the right way to contact editors like you, otherwise please forgive me and advise me how to do so in a more appropriate manner. Wikipedia is known for being adamant about spam that people may be tempted to covertly add to its content, so I didn't want to give it a try ;-)

My point is about the External Link Section. Indeed, I don't understand why, out of the 6 links provided

  • 3 links (ERP Expert Online, and 2 links for Neustro) are related to self-proclaimed experts who are in fact integrators, hence vendor dependent consultants who would bias the selection process at the very begining to the few solutions they have a financial interest in;
  • 1 link (Article on ERP Failure) is a blatant made-for-adsense (MFA) site providing nothing but shallow information that may be considered valid at first sight;
  • 1 link (CIO article) is about definitions and high-level articles that don't talk about the selection issue; and
  • only 1 link (BSM Consulting) seems to be about an independent consultant, although I was not able to find within their site such words as independent, impartial, or unbiased.

So why not remove (almost all of) them to put some vendor- and integrator-independent links that would definitively be more relevant to the real topic of the article, that is, the ERP software selection process, methodology, and tools?

P.S.: Sorry for the multiple updates, I've just learn about the "Show preview" feature when editing. —PascalPerry (talk) 05:36, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I now move your comment to Talk:ERP_System_Selection_Methodology, which is the best place to discuss improvements on that article! --Jordiferrer (talk) 09:14, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

  Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from London International Hot Air Balloon Festival. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. All clear regarding the templates. However, why did you add a deadlink template? That external link is working ok on my PC: http://www.londontopic.ca/article.php?artid=8175 Jordiferrer (talk) 15:55, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Spanish Catalan politician, etc. edit

Hi, regarding your edit comment on Artur Mas: the fact is that, strictly speaking, "Spanish Catalan" politician, architect, etc. is nonsense in English really (unless, I suppose, one wanted to distinguish "Spanish Catalan" from "French Catalan", etc.). You won't find it anywhere outside Wikipedia. However, I entirely agree with you it's the only practical solution to the problem of interested parties on both sides insisting on changing it back and forth. I've given up trying to get rid of it; life's too short. A partial remedy I've found works for a while, if you think that "Catalan" is more appropriate in a particular case (e.g., Artur Mas, I would agree) is simply not to put a wikilink to Catalan (e.g., Gaudí in Bellesguard). I created the article on Enric Sagnier and it was left as "Catalan architect" for a year or so before anyone noticed. I felt that "Catalan architect" was more appropriate since he designed hardly any buildings outside Catalonia, but worked in Barcelona all his life. Same goes for Gaudí, et al.

On the other hand, I don't think the interference with this article amounts to vandalism so far, so I don't think there's any need to ask for protection yet. AdeMiami (talk) 18:10, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

English grammar edit

Reply is on my talk. Valenciano (talk) 15:12, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I think the mistake can come from translating directly ... maybe from Catalan ( l'ajuntament de Barcelona) ? Valenciano (talk) 21:26, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Jordiferrer - I just wanted to let you know that you actually got it right when you inserted the word "the" in front of "Barcelona city council". I'm not sure why, but I'm afraid Valenciano misconstrued the grammar rule he referenced, which doesn't apply to things like city councils. (The examples given simply weren't analagous.)
In a case like this, the definite article "the" is indeed called for. In five-plus decades of reading, writing (including for publication), and professional copyediting, I have rarely seen any examples to the contrary. No need to take my word for it, though. I just Googled the phrase, "elected to the New York city council", which got 6,310,000 g-hits, as compared to the phrase, "elected to New York city council", which got a mere 11,300 g-hits. Gran Valira edit

The clear consensus at Talk:Gran Valira was that the most correct name is Gran Valira based on a majority of reliable sources published in English and Catalan. Most importantly Gran Valira is the name used by the Govern d'Andorra's own map service. The names used in other wikis are not by themselves reliable sources. The Spanish sources use the name Valira because there is only one Valira river inside Spain, so they do not need to distinguish between the different Valira rivers inside Andorra. Please do not rename articles against consensus without starting a discussion on the talk page. 194.158.75.125 (talk) 01:13, 9 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

From Wikipedia... A muleteer, or more informally a "muleskinner" (SAYS WHO ?) In South America, muleskinners transport coffee, maize (corn), cork, wheat and myriad other items. They remain common in the Paisa Region ?. In Europe, there are still muleteers in the south of Portugal and the southwest of Spain ?????.....
