Project for RfA nominators

Hi -- I notice you've been active in nominating at RfA over the past year, and would like to invite you to join the WikiProject for Nominators, which aims to support editors interested in nominating there. We'd be glad of your expertise in getting this new project off the ground. Apologies for the talk-page spamming if you've already seen this message a dozen times. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 23:30, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

A nice interesting project, Joining. John F. Lewis (talk) 23:51, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Those GA reviews

Hey John, I don't mean to nag you, but if possible, I would like to get WikiCup points for those GAs, so if you could review them in the next week or so, I would appreciate it. Thanks! Go Phightins! 01:24, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Apologies I forgot about the reviews :). I will definitely get around to them in the next week. John F. Lewis (talk) 01:30, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Here's a plate full of cookies to share!
Hi John F. Lewis/Archive 4, here are some delicious cookies to help brighten your day! However, there are too many cookies here for one person to eat all at once, so please share these cookies with at least two other editors by copying {{subst:Sharethecookies}} to their talk pages. Enjoy! AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 17:46, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
May I ask what brought this on? Anyway thanks and I shall share them not onwiki but on IRC through my many nicks :) John F. Lewis (talk) 17:51, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Well, after your comments on Wikidata, it occurred to me that I don't know if I have ever interacted directly with you here, even though I've seen you around. So, consider this a greeting! AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 19:31, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
I think you have interacted with me here. Though in all honesty, I rarely edit enwiki now since I got the bit at Wikidata. This is probably one of my first edits since March ish. John F. Lewis (talk) 19:36, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

You've been Wiki-Slapped!

Moe Epsilon has given you a slap to the face! A slap to the face promotes WikiHate and hopefully this has ruined your day. Spread the WikiHate by giving someone else a slap to the face, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Regards, — Moe Epsilon 17:52, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
What is the point of this? AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 20:02, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Ahh nothing important, just in reply to something discussed on IRC, nothing important. :p Regards, — Moe Epsilon 21:34, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Indeed. Yeah, that template seems like one that could easily be misunderstood. AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 21:42, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Just a mock-up of {{WikiLove}}, don't think many will take it seriously. Regards, — Moe Epsilon 22:00, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Adoption Request from camLine Marketing

Hello John,

I am camLine Marketing and would like to set-up an article about Cornerstone which is a statistical software for engineers. I am looking for an adopter to learn about Wikipedia EN practice. After having almost completed a German contribution to Cornerstone on Wikipedia DE, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:CamLine_Marketing/Cornerstone_%28Software%29

I am looking forward to set-up an English variant. With your interest in software and science, may I win your patience and attention?

Kind Regards, --CamLine Marketing (talk) 15:16, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Unfortunately I am no longer active on English Wikipedia except for Account related work which explains why I responded to this message so quickly. Looking at the article however, if the sources are English, I see no main reason why translating that article won't apply to the standards. John F. Lewis (talk) 15:21, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your prompt response, but I need just a few hints to get to know these standards, such as, how-to set-up a sandbox etc. But never mind, I will look for another adopter. Thanks --CamLine Marketing (talk) 15:28, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool update

Hey John F. Lewis. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:28, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

The Sexual Dysfunction Association

Hi John, Just seen your comment and am very grateful for the feedback. Admittedly, it was a bit of a shock to see that the article was deleted but, hopefully my next article will be reliable enough to get approved. The problem i am finding when writing these articles is that all the information about the 'association' or 'organisation' is based on their own website. Considering the lack of information elsewhere on the web, i thought it would be acceptable to use their own website as a reference. I may just choose to avoid such articles in the future. Really appreciate your help though John! Thanks Binko100 (talk) 16:57, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome. While using a companies own website as a source is not wrong, it does not establish notability. So if there a fact that can really only be sourced through the company themselves such as internal announcements, feel free to use the website. John F. Lewis (talk) 17:38, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cupul, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Maya (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
