Draft

Hi @Imcdc I noticed you've done some great work organizing venture capital pages. I have a draft out there for general catalyst and wanted to know if you'd be willing to give it a look? Thanks! :) Justwatchmee (talk) 14:46, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

@Justwatchmee I noticed you already made Frank so you should be familiar with how WP:NCORP works. I have actually tried to revive this article but gave up because I simply cannot find enough good sources that go in-depth about it. Saying stuff like GC raised this much for a fund or a company alone is very generic and WP:Routine that every other VC firm does. Also unless worded right, it sounds like just more promotional stuff. We need something from a WP:RS that is willing to talk more in depth on how the company itself works, its full history etc. I don't know why but this VC firm just doesn't get much coverage from mainstream news despite its size. Speedy deletion nomination of Voloridge Investment Management

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Voloridge Investment Management, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. PICKLEDICAE🥒 21:17, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello Imcdc, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Imcdc, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:50, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell Thank you for giving me this opportunity. It has taken me a long time to get this right so I will make sure it doesn't go to waste.- Imcdc Contact 16:18, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Request for Inputs

Dear Imcdc,

Hope you are well. I have been learning about Wiki edits on the fly and want to surely get more knowledge from an experienced editor such as yourself. In case of Primavera Capital Group page for edits in introduction - did I make any errors? since it was reverted.

The sentence correction was done since China/Chinese seems to be a bit over used in the introduction. Especially, since Hong Kong is a SAR of PRC (till 2047), so there should be some difference when mentioning firms with HQ in Hong Kong. The difference may be Suttle for the rest of the world but for Hongkongers like myself, these distinctions matter.

I hope you can consider that.

Also, may I add the words 'Envision Energy' is it's 'Notable Investments', since there are credible references, since that also seems reveted with intro edits. Thanks WorldPeace888 (talk) 07:27, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

@WorldPeace888 When dealing with company articles you may refer to WP:NCORP and WP:PROMO for guidance. Two things that will get a company article deleted is lack of notability and having a promotional of puffery tone. Even if a company and its sections are indeed notable with supported independent in-depth sources, we have to keep it neutral as per WP:NPOV. Your change was reverted as the tone was considered promotional.
As for the HK headquarters, that alone doesn't mean much. Firstly it is not totally clear if the HQ is actually in HK as some other websites state it is in Beijing. And another thing I have noticed especially when it comes to financial firms is the headquarters can change on a whim simply for tax purposes. It doesn't change where their main operational base or what they actually are. If Primavera decided to change their HQ to Cayman Islands tomorrow, that's not going to make it not Chinese. In this case, the firm mainly carries out its business in mainland China. They may claim to be more "global and international" and that they invest all across asia but that just comes across as more puffery if most of their work is done in China. In addition some of the references in the article like WSJ when talking about Primavera buying up US companies, they refer to it as a "Chinese firm based in Hong Kong" so even they see it as just another Chinese firm that just happens to be headquartered outside mainland China.
For intro, we already have 6 companies in the intro lead. Some may say that's already too much for an intro and begins to fall into namedropping. Any notable investments can be put in the list instead (best to be sourced). Ideally we only want to put the biggest and most notable (has a wiki article) ones. If people want to see their full portfolio, that's what the main website is for. Refer to WP:NOTDIRECTORY
- Imcdc Contact 12:56, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks a ton Imcdc, really helpful.
1. Noted on your point of view that Primavera is a Chinese investment firm based in Hong Kong based on western media publications as ref & that most work does seem to be more China centric.
Also, understood on the language, will ensure it does not sound promotional for future edits.
As a learner on Wikipedia, if I keep the words 'Chinese investment firm in Hong Kong' constant (since your reasoning is valid); would it be ok to give it another shot to rephrase, since there is some repetition of information in intro & it does not read well.
Example: someone has added a sentence in the intro about HQ in Hong Kong (one liner 3rd para in intro) without any references. Wanted to remove that sentence and club it with the first para. Since, line 1 of the page already mentions that it is a HK based firm.
Since, you reverted the edits, want to ensure you are ok, if I can reedit (more like rephrase) it, if the meaning remains the same (i.e. Chinese firm based in HK etc). If not, it's ok.
2. Will not add Envision Energy to the intro, understand that will be too many names there. My point was, I had added it in 'Notable Investment' section, which is lower down on the page; which was reverted.
Also, I understand Wiki is not a directory but since someone has added a section on the page for 'Notable Investments', I believe it should have all the information. Specially since the company mentioned i.e. Envision Energy has a wikipage and was added with credible references (in the that section).
Thanks again for the feedback. Appreciate the great work you are doing on Wiki. Cheers WorldPeace888 (talk) 02:07, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
@WorldPeace888 You can send a proposed draft of wording. Envision Energy can be added to notable investment provided it has a reference attatched - Imcdc Contact 14:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks Imcdc. Will add Envision Energy with a reference in Notable investment section.
For the intro para, below are the 2 options, please let me know which one is more suitable, will procced accordingly.
Option 1:
Primavera Capital Group (Primavera; Chinese: 春華資本集團; pinyin: Chūnhuá Zīběn Jítuán) is a Chinese investment firm with offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Silicon Valley and Singapore. It is considered one of China's leading investment firms with notable investments in companies such as Alibaba, Ant Group, ByteDance, XPeng, Yum China and The Princeton Review.
In 2023, <this para remians untouched>
<One liner para 3 to be deleted>
Option 2:
Primavera Capital Group (Primavera; Chinese: 春華資本集團; pinyin: Chūnhuá Zīběn Jítuán) is a Chinese investment firm with offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Silicon Valley and Singapore. The firm engages in private equity investments throughout the business life cycle which spans from early-stage venture funding to late-stage growth capital and comprehensive buyouts. Notable among its investments are well-established companies like Alibaba, Ant Group, ByteDance, XPeng, Yum China, and The Princeton Review.

<One liner para 3 to be deleted> WorldPeace888 (talk) 05:02, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@WorldPeace888
Option 1. Private equity firms all do similar activities like buyouts and growth capital etc. There's not really a purpose in saying what it does when anyone who is a bit familiar with PE firms will already know. - Imcdc Contact 12:51, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@Imcdc ok noted, also appreciate the feedback given.
Will edit the intro with Option 1. Thanks WorldPeace888 (talk) 17:08, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
@Imcdc Agreed edits now in place. Thanks 183.88.107.118 (talk) 07:44, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

Could you point me at a source for this as an alternative name for Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan? I'm reviewing redirects and having trouble making the connection. Thanks! Rusalkii (talk) 06:40, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

@Rusalkii You're gonna have to ask User:Kaiyr about it. He's the one who tried to change the article's names to some uncommon name that isn't used much officially in english mediums. I just changed it back to the proper commonly used name hence they are redirects. The same applies to those other Kazakh redirects that you reviewed. - Imcdc Contact 12:32, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Got it, will ask them. Rusalkii (talk) 20:06, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
