Hello Chzz... i was on last year and then stopped for some time and i have decided to get back on... it has been a long time, so i will need help sort of 'restarting'.... i have missed most of what happened with your RFA, and am sorry about it... anyone here can help me out...

Nick de Angelis

This is Edieangelo who had been trying to complete the Nick de Angelis page. I thank you so much for your help. Yes, absolutely delete the other two pictures. I believe the article has been properly referenced re: Allan Stone Gallery, web address, books published with Nick's illustrations. I am sorry; I must seem like a complete ditz but all these03:05, 1 April 2010 (UTC){{{{{}}}}}[[]] are so foreign and confusing to me I feel like I am trying to learn Chinese. Anyone (and I am sure once the article goes 'live' there will be other 'editors' as Nick died at age 83 and was an active artist for 78 of those years.) who wants to see Nick's work can go to the website and see it there. I guess once the other two are deleted I can go forward and double check my references and ask for a review. It is not that I am so anxious to have it 'live' as that I am anxious to have it over with. I work three jobs and trying to do this is emotionally and mentally challenging me at a time in this economy when do not need additional challenges. Thanbkyou SO much for your help! I got your April 1 message and will start some work on your suggestions. I've copied them to my pc. Also I have a copy of the current version of the article there. The safest thing is to modify that copy and see how changes look.

Ideally it would be Simplest to have that second, modified copy in my User Page. I don't know if that is reasonable (copying and pasting into my User Space?).

Some of the suggestions are easy to do. I have to look at them more carefully.

But there remains one problem. What attracted me to the Birch Reduction article was not only my interest in it. But, not wanting to sound egotistical, it turns out that I am the only one who is really capable to deal with the subject thorougly and accurately. It comes from my having worked on and published in that subject somewhat uniquely. The others who worked on it and published are Arthur Birch himself (no longer living), Leo Radom who is not an organic chemist and primarily a phsical chemist and who has been out of the field, Aksel Bothner-By who I would guess is retired (Carnegie-Mellon) and was involved only at the beginning of the Birch work. My publications are the ones which provide the basis of understanding. There are plenty of organic chemists who use the reaction but that is quite different than understanding the mechanism in real detail; I suspect that most have not understood most of what I've published since the isotope trick was pretty unusual.

Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying that having the person who uniquely is involved with a subject then not being the one to describe it - may be something which sounds good in Wikipedia but isn't good. Carried to an extreme, it would doom Wikipedia's ability to have difficult material.

Chzz, I would hope that is not the case. If it were I would not want the Birch stuff to come from me and I would put it into some review article.

I hope that makes sense.

Would it make sense to bring that viewpoint to Wikipedia in general?

Anyway, I'll start going over the article on the other things.

Chzz, on an item completely separate from the Birch stuff but related in philosopy, in my main page there has been for over three-months a request for References and Links to items on my own Page. It has been stated that objective references for information there are needed. There has been a request for people to help. But there has been essentially none, again probably for the reason that few people if any will have the interest or ability to find those links and references. I took it upon myself to put two or thre more Links (References) in - One from Yale describing the Chittenden Award one from the ACS giving the winners of the James Flack Norris Award and one giving the winners of the AIC (Amer Institute of Chemists) Pioneer(ing) Award.

I'll end here and use my energy on the Article.

• Userspace 'sandboxes' - feel free to make and use as many user subpages as you like. No problem with that. I have just edited your user page, User:Hezimmerman, and added links to the existing subpage and some others ("test one", "test two" etc) which do not yet exist, and so are red links. You can click on those and create the pages. The links on your user page will make a convenient place for you to get back to them, at any time. You can of course edit your user page and change the names, or add more.

• Referencing your own work - there is nothing inherently wrong in this, as long as you a) take care to only state facts that are supported by your published works (and nothing not published in reliable, third-party sources), and b) you maintain a balance with any other sources that may be available. Hi. It all depends on the copyright status of the picture. If it is your own picture, that you personally took, you can just upload it at Commons.

However, if it comes from the internet, or a book, or something then it is very likely to be copyright. We could not use it without permission from the copyright holder - they would have to email a special 'permission' to us. Let me know if I can help further.  Chzz  ►  05:22, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

I am still concerned about the constraints section in List of best-selling music artists, which has been tagged as OR for some time. I didn't want to simply remove it before I spoke to you, but really, it has to go - it is 'meta information', not factual, and not supported by reliable sources; it infers that the 'rules' for the article differ from the standard policies and guidelines.

I am pleased that our previous discussions resulted in what I believe to be a more neutral style in the article - ie the bracketed listings; I think that has been a huge improvement. However, I think this issue with constraints does need to be addressed, and I welcome your own comments on the matter. If we need to discuss it to get consensus on the talk page instead, that would be fine too; I just wanted to ask you in person first.  Chzz  ►  00:48, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

I honestly don't think we could find sources to specifically support the statements within the Constraints due to the nature of what the section intends to cover. So, as much as I'd like to keep the information as it delivers some of the basic factors that need to be looked at while observing record-sales, having it removed altogether due to not being able to source it is understandable. Perhaps, later on I'll re-insert similar information using a kind of language for which we could locate sources. Hi Chzz, Greetings from sunny Thailand. I have a technical question about a redirect for an article I want to write.

Some time back I contributed to an article Johannes Maas (missionary). I had a disagreement with another editor (over a detail on religion), who saw I had contributed much to that article, and he nominated it for deletion (I think out of spite. I had talked to you at the time about some of their edits which I felt were motivated by revenge). There was no consensus at the first attempt, but the second time, these who voted to keep did not repost their keep votes, and it was deleted. (You can find it in the archives, I think.)

I would like to write a new article Johannes Maas. However, that name redirects to Johannes Leonardus Maas. Is there a way to change this so I can use "Johannes Maas" for a new article which will not redirect to "Johannes Leonardus Maas"? More help needed, please. I rewote the article (Johannes Maas), adding new material. Now some editor deleted my new article (Johannes Maas) and changed the redirect to go back to Johannes Leonardus Maas. Please check that article to see what they have done. I cannot find the new article which I created, since Johannes Maas is redirected to Johannes Leonardus Maas. The two editors that are doing this appear to have a trouble past, as they are neither registered, nor have a page. Thanks so much. I found the Deletion Log listing (12:57, 7 April 2010 JzG (talk | contribs) deleted "Johannes Maas" ‎ (G4: Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion. Timex ( If you have time or nothing to do )

I'm hoping you can help with an archiving problem I'm having. I set up User:MiszaBot III and had it working, then I started to try to tweak out just right for me, trying to set the auto archive a little closer to the incoming messages, just tweaking. Anyway got to a point where nothing was being archived so you have to wait a couple days just to see how it's acting. So I got to a point where I just re-loaded the program/commands and now it did (today) archive some threads, good thing. Now I have two archive boxes, User talk:Mlpearc below the archive header. The first one is the one I would like to stay with and use, I like the "Hide" feature and the "search window" I would like to keep, but can live without. I made the second one to hold the links to the archived pages That already exist. The first was keeping them in the "hide" tab and creating new pages after the maxarchivesize value was reached. I could just let the first box just start from this point and go on. But I would like to install the pages I already have in the "Hide" section, but I don't know how or if it can be done. I still don't know if the new Install will create new pages as needed automatically I might of Blanked out the line command for that I don't know. I created a Archive Index Page here, User talk:Mlpearc/Archive index, just to have them around and won't have to spend time tracking down if I need something that's been archived, (I have made future links to sequential pages).

Nutshell I want to keep and use the top box with the hidden archive index. What I don't know is how to insert archived pages in that box and I still need to find out if it will auto-create new pages. You provided feedback on my page, but I had further questions. Here is what I had said regarding Moraqjo/Trozzolo Communications Group work page Thank you for the feedback. I've looked at numerous other agency profiles and I don't see this one as being different. I can add more sources to the history section, but it is a true account of the progression of the agency. How is it promotional to say that the agency changed names and merged with others? Other Wikipedia pages also list clients so I would think that would be nothing more than informative. Hi there. Regarding other articles - don't rely on that; there are lots of terrible articles on Wikipedia, and many do not meet the policy requirements; however, that isn't a defence for adding more; it just means we need to fix them. A short history might be appropriate, all I meant was, to be very careful when using any primary source - see the link; primary sources may be used, but only for stating basic facts. Regarding the list of clients, it may be acceptable - I only mentioned it because, in general, we like to avoid long lists of information. One option that might help is to use two colums - I just edited the page and did that. The most important issue for any such article is to remain neutral, and only present facts that can be verified; at the moment, personally, I don't think there is enough to show notability, because most (or all) of the sources seem to be press-releases and suchlike. Hi Chzz & Blurpeace, I have made 1 modification since you revived the article. "wee hours" - removed. facebook - removed. A brief CV of Silviu Ionescu is added, with reference quoted. The Romanian friend we have told us that the Romanian government took away his CV (from the official website after the incident) otherwise, we can get a even better version. I am not giving up yet, because we can try to obtain from Singapore's Ministry of Foriegn Affairs but it may just take time (I guess it is just the usual justification and approval etc needed) Until such time, I hope the brief CV would help to balance the article so that it did not appear that the one incident overweigh his bio.

Please continue to give suggestion for improvement. I want to say this publicly (not sure the chat conversation was public enough) but I find the people in the AFC chat room is very helpful, adopting a positive attitude in assisting new comers.

There is wrong information in Lindsay Lohan related articles, but thy are protected, can you fix them:

In the "Over (Lindsay Lohan song)" article....it says it was released on April 25, 2005 in the U.S., thats NOT true......it was released in the U.S. on December 14, 2004....can you change it please.....and add this source next to December 14 Source

Chzz,

I've seen what a very pretty job you made of "Howard Zimmerman", even my picture.

The article is pretty completely error-free. I suppose I might have suggested having "(Harvard)" just after the "R. B. Woodward", but most people will know that Woodward was at Harvard and that was where I spent the year on tne NRC fellowship.

My son saw the article and was impressed. He is pretty good himself as Head of the Univ of Illinois Chemistry Dept.

Chzz, I now have that article on the "Birch Reduction Mechanism" pretty complete with references, links, etc. I suppose the title could be as I have it although there are some practical aspects as well as the Mechanism.

But I wonder what to do with the article.

I would move it to Article space if you thought I should do it. I had been hoping that BDuke would look at it and give an opinion but he appears to have been busy.

I did mention to his (Brian Salter-Duke) that my main reservation has to do with whether the article would be "mangeled" or "modified" by others. I understand that anyone can Edit an article. While I have no "Synthesis" or any of my personal research in the article except for items in published research, the article necessarily reflects my thinking as I have been a main contributor to the published literature.

Originally I had been thinking of published the article in (e.g.) the Journal of Chemical Education. But the one article already in Wikipedia covers only about 10% of what is in mine, lacks real mechanisms, lacks regioselectivity, lacks known explanations, and worse - is loaded with real errors. It had been suggested by another editor that I work to repair it; but that is hopeless.

Chzz, do give me your opinion of what I should do - move it to Article space, leave it as it is, remove it, or what.

Again, real appreciation for the very nice job of editing my "Howard Zimmerman" article and also for the early help in getting the Birch Reduction article in correctly (drawings, about references and links,etc).

On a different subject, somehow I've obtained the History of the 774th Tank Battalion in WWII. It seems to have come from the National Archives in Maryland; I had paid about $700 to get paper copies and am uncertain how much of what I have in Word format overlaps the paper stuff. But that was my outfit in WWII. It is a very interesting story but I don't know to what extent it is free for publishing. My copy seems to have come from another WWII veteran.

Do give me your opinion on the possibility of this going into Wikipedia.

Hi Chzz, You may Perhaps help me on this or guide on this issue. My user id is Sap.prabhu which I had registered in 11/06/2006 which I recently got renamed to Ashok Prabhu (My name). On renaming by Wiki Admn, when I look at Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins or Shri Gaudapadacharya Mutt page I can see my old contributions are appearing under renamed id Ashok Prabhu, however subsequent contributions are still appearing under Sap.prabhu id. Hi Chzz, I checked the findings by Werdna. I understood the problem, after renaming I need to logout from old Id and log in with new ID (Whcih I was not aware), since I was logged in automatically with old Id in my ie, the new contributions continued to logged with my old id only. Now I understood the issue, Can you pls check for me if the Contributions with Sap.prabhu id can be renamed to Ashok_Prabhu..? help with Chesterfield Idaho page

Mr Chzz, I hopeful you can help me by giving some advise involving an edit war.

My first page I started editing was the Chesterfield, Idaho page. I decide to leave the page alone for awhile. I've done other pages for a bit and would like to do Chesterfield again. The war started with the other editor saying, "Rv: much of this is copied from copyrighted sources, so it's not too unlikely that the rest is as well."... lets just say he couldn't find anything that was copied. It hasn't gone much better from there. If you could read the discussion page and give me any advice... what I've done wrong, what I should do, etc?

I had a bit of a look at the Chesterfield business - tricky stuff. All I can really suggest is, perhaps, just add one bit at a time. That will make it easier to discuss a specific edit (if someone else reverts it). Most things can be solved by discussing it - I see that you had problems with an editor not responding, but that shouldn't be a hold-up; ask others to comment - perhaps on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places, and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Idaho. If you can get a few more people involved, it is easier to gain a consensus for a specific change - and then, if it is reverted, the user reverting can be warned, etc, because they'd be going against a consensus.

The Birch Reduction article now has 9 paragraphs in a LEDE. I had to put it into User:hezimmerman/Reftest

I worked rapidly to get an LEDE for the Birch Reduction article.

I put the article with that LEDE (just before the Contents) in User:hezimmerman/RefTest I didn't know where else to put it but that was essentially empty. I didn't want to spoil the original article which was carefully proofed. One item which needs checking is the reference to a "pentadienyl anion" where in the main part of article it is termed "cyclohexadienyl" because it is imbedded in a six-member ring. There maybe a simple way to fix that.

I haven't really read the LEDE for clarity but it should be reasonable.

But it is long overall and I wonder if it is too long and needs to be truncated. But you did mention some appreciable length with a paragraph for each item in the table of Contents.

Do let me know what you think.

Also, I need to carefully go over the LEDE I wrote to make certain that it is all right. I wrote it with some haste.

Chzz, I'm not surprised that you and your colleague had problems with "Lilly NRC" or "Lilly National Research Council". 1) The NRC (The National Research Council) is the research arm of the NAS (The National Academy of Sciences.)

2)The fellowship I had for that year at Harvard was an NRC one but NRC has had fellowships with different sources of funding. The one I had came from the Lilly Co. and thus the fellowhip was termed a "Lilly NRC Postdoctoral Fellowship" or "Lilly National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship".

Thus there is no Lilly NRC.

Chzz, I had been curious about my NRC fellowship and contacted the Archives Division at the NAS/NRC to see if they had record of my fellowship. I was particularly interested in the "Mentor" I had. When I was leaving for Northwestern, he expressed some question about whether I would have sufficient resources (actually Northwestern now if very good but back then if was not the equivalent of (e.g. Yale, Harvard, Wisconsin, Illinois, etc). I had another reason for interest also. The group at Yale had been very helpful in nominating me for that fellowship and I learned that Bob Woodward had been helpful also. But I had antagonized one professor when I showed he was wrong in a group seminar he permitted me to attend and then asked a physical chemist who was right and then (stupidly broadcasted publicly that the professor was wrong). I heard that the professor tried block my getting the fellowship. And now I am curious about whether he did.

When I wrote the LEDE I put it in User:hezimmerman/Reftest and it is there.

Should I copy the LEDE from the Reftest site to User:hezimmerman/Birch Reduction?

You mentioned dealing with the LEDE but I don't see it in the Birch Reduction site and the Reftest site article is pretty messy (e.g. no final table of contents)

Also, I had asked whether the LEDE was too extensive. It has one paragraph for each of the main topics as you suggested. But some of these are long. I'm guessing it is ok since you didn't indicate a problem.

I've been pretty busy with the Pacifichem organization but I do need to study the LEDE to make certain it is good; I wrote it pretty hastily.

Do let me know about copying the LEDE and if it really ok being that long.

I've gone over the Lede and fixed up problems. But I don't seem to have an Alterntive Title. I thought "Birch Reduction Detailed" might do, but it didn't fit in to the first sentence.

Chzz, the Birch article is in very good condition and could be put into Article space except that a title different from the other Birch article is needed.

I have considered: The Birch Reduction Mechanisms The Birch Reduction Detailed The Birch Reduction and Details The Birch Reduction - Detailed Coverage etc. ??

I tried putting in the second one but it went into the very first sentence and didn't make sense there. I didn't see how to change: User:hezimmerman/Birch Reduction to User:hezimmerman/Birch Reduction Detailed .

But actually the best title is "The Birch Reduction"

Chzz, that old article is much too brief, primitive, laden with errors and a mess -- to think of it being combined with my nicely ordered and detailed coverage. Thus I guess one cannot wipe it out or rename it as "Very Brief Introduction to the Birch Reduction".

In any case, let me hear your advice.

I did what you suggested, namely did a "MOVE" of "User:hezimmerman/Birch Reduction" to "Birch Reduction detailed"

It seems to have gone properly without error. (I held my breath when I did that).

The only problem is that a Search for "Birch Reduction" doesn't seem to find Birch reduction detailed .

I seem to remember your mentioning having a Link (to or from) the article. I hesitate putting a Link in the old Birch article. I could put a link into my article to the old Birch one. But that would not help finding it intially.

The title (Birch reduction detailed) is not perfect. I can keep thinking about that. I'm guessing that one can change a title using MOVE again (just sas in Linux programming a "mv").

• Hey Chzz, It's me again, I really don't like bothering you, I do see how active and busy you are. But it seems your the only (at least the one I know of) editor around that knows and is willing to help. I went first to HighInBC to ask for help but you probably know that editor is retired. Anyway to my problem, and please there is no rush. I have the same problem at my talk and User:peteypaws. The "Indexerbot" has created the "Index" pages for both accounts but is not progressing, Does this bot run on the same schedule as MiszaBot ? The pages it created look great but as Misza archives the threads Indexerbot is not adding to the pages it Created. I was thinking maybe the indexerbot runs only once a month or maybe there's something wrong in the command line at the talk pages, I don't know. • Almost everything should have a reference - not just direct quotations. Yes, you should paraphrase the facts, but you have to 'say where you got it'. The important point is, verifiability - the reader should be able to look at the reference and check the facts for themselves. The rule of thumb is, at least one reference per paragraph - but it is by far preferable to have at least one reference after each sentence.

• Re. source details - looking back now, I think that the info you gave may be OK in the case of an old magazine. Of course, more would be better, if there is anything that could be added. The basic idea is, enough information for the reader to be able to locate the publication - to get a copy through a library or something. If there is no ISSN, then of course you can't add one; just please give all the details that you can. Is there any kind of 'issue number' or anything? Is there an authors name? You could link to the article too, by putting [[The Argus (Australia)|The Argus]] - that will display as The Argus - I think that is the appropriate link?

The main thing is, to add the references - so we can see where the facts come from. If you use the same source several times, that's fine, but you can use 'named references' - see my short guide in User:Chzz/help/ref#Named references, or WP:CITE.
