Zhang Ruonan was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang and completed primary school in Shijiazhuang, where her parents worked.

In 2015, Zhang Ruonan attended university in Hangzhou. As a student, she enjoyed posting photos of herself on Weibo. A classmate suggested she join a campus beauty contest, so she shared a photo and got into the top 30 of the competition. This led to modeling opportunities.[1]

In 2017, Zhang Ruonan received a private message from the official Weibo account of the anti-school violence film "Cry Me a Sad River", hoping to invite her to star in the film; Zhang Ruonan has been doing psychological struggle, and the crew sees her delayed reply, and through the friends found her; Finally, Zhang Ruonan participated in the film, and played Gu Sen xi's twin sister Gu Sen Xiang in the film, gentle and kind, but eventually because Tang millet hired a rogue to bully sometimes accidentally fell to his death. The film is also Zhang's first solo film and was released nationwide on September 21, 2018.[2]

In 2018, Zhang made her acting debut in her role as Gu Senxiang in the melodrama film Cry Me a Sad River by Guo Jingming.[3][4] In the same year, she made her small-screen debut in the romance drama Everyone Wants to Meet You produced by Zhao Wei.[5]

In 2019, Zhang starred in her first historical drama Love is All as a female detective. The same year, she reunited with Guo Jingming in the fantasy romance film The End of Endless Love.[6]

On February 16, 2020, the urban emotional drama "Everyone Wants to meet you" was launched on IQiyi.[7] Zhang Ruonan plays the sunny girl Luo Xi in the play, which can make Zhang Huan, a career madman, relieve his headache symptoms.[8] On April 25, starring in the romantic light comedy "Love Is All" was launched on Youku. Tan Lingyin, played by Zhang Ruonan in the play, is a playful and lovely story-book writer and county government official.[9] On October 1, in Hunan Satellite TV's "2020 National Day Gift · Hunan Satellite TV Blue Moon Mid-Autumn Festival Night", the realistic short film "College Entrance Examination 2020" in which he participated was broadcast, in which he played the role of a senior high school student struggling for his dream.[10] On December 4, the urban fantasy movie "The End of Endless Love" was released nationwide. Zhang Ruonan played the role of Ji Ze, a folk song girl who suffers from depression; the box office of the film broke 200 million yuan on the fifth day of its release.[11][12][13] On December 11, in Hunan Satellite TV's "Pinduoduo 12.12 Super Fighting Night", Zhang Ruonan and Wei Daxun jointly sang the song "Diary of Love"[14]

On April 13, 2021, the army-themed drama "The Glory of Youth" was jointly broadcast on Zhejiang Satellite TV and Jiangsu Satellite TV.[15] Zhang Ruonan played Xia Zhuo's college classmate Liang Nuo in the play.[16] On April 30, the urban emotional youth film My Love co-starring Xu Guanghan was released,[17] in which Zhang Ruonan played the role of You Yongci, who was insecure due to a failed native family.[18] On July 1, the revolutionary historical film The Pioneer directed by Xu Zhanxiong was released.[19] In the film, Zhang Ruonan played the role of Li Dazhao's daughter Li Xinghua.[20] On August 18, the female-themed youth emotional drama "Be Yourself" was launched. Zhang Ruonan played Huangfu Shumin in the play, a girl with "Princess syndrome" who grew up in a doting environment.[21] On November 23, the starring urban emotional inspirational drama Psychologist was broadcast on Youku.[22]

On April 19, 2022, participate in the outdoor trendy camping reality show Let's Camp Together jointly produced by iQiyi, Caviar, and Jiangsu Satellite TV, and co-produced by iQiyi Encore Studio.;[23] On May 19, the period drama Defying the Storm starring Hu Yitian and Wang Jinsong was broadcast on Hunan Satellite TV. In the play, Zhang Ruonan played the role of Meng Haitang, who was born into a family of scholars[24][25] On August 12, she participated in season 8 of the celebrity reality show Chinese Restaurant, which was broadcast on Hunan Satellite TV.[26]

On April 28, 2023, the youth love movie "All These Years" participated in will be released.[27] On the same day, the starring urban romantic comedy You Have Today was launched.[28] On May 20, the starring romantic comedy movie Too Beautiful to Lie was released.[29][30][31][32] On June 2, the TV series A Date with the Future starring William Chan was broadcast on Jiangsu Satellite TV.[33]
