20% of what? edit

I'm all in favour of reducing gender bias in Wikipedia, and look forward to the new content this project generates. However...

The project page frequently uses phrases like "20% women biographies in the encylopedia" but does not say what that 20% is relative to. The whole encyclopaedia? The total number of biographies in the encylopaedia? Something else?

Also, what is the basis for choosing 20%? Is there some guideline that an encyclopaedia should be 40% biographies?

Relative to male bios of course!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:57, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Dr. Blofeld: thanks for the reply! N.B. you say "of course," but honestly it was not at all obvious. Please could you add clarificatory wording to the challenge? Thanks again, Zazpot (talk) 13:15, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

The World Contest edit

Hi. Is the World Contest a feeder contest into the 100,000 Challenge like the Africa Destubathon was for the 10,000 challenge (Africa)? I noticed that both the 100,000 challenge for women in red and the world contest both say they'll start in november 2017 and i'd like to confirm. Thanks. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:07, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I think so though whether we pull that off will depend on WMF support for regular contests and new contest ideas. We'll likely be doing something as a vehicle to get us up a per cent or over 20% anyway.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:28, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
