Well? edit

This gonna happen soon? It's already the 25th. ZappaOMati 13:19, 25 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Now that Nomader has said "let the submissions begin" the GAMECUP should really be added to the To do List or the project sidebar so people can easily find it. Salavat (talk) 01:29, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions for future Gamecups edit

I think this is a fun little thing for the VG project, and I hope it makes it past one edition. However, I think it can be more inclusive and productive if we focus more on the VG Project needs rather than the general goals you see at WP:WIKICUP.

You've made a start with points for the Stubcheck stalemate, but you should take a look at other more immediately obvious targets and backlogs. What do readers want when they get to a VG article? They want to see a screenshot, some artwork, and reviews.

There should be points for clearing through the Category:Video game articles needing infoboxes, Category:Video game articles requesting identifying art and Category:Video game articles requesting screenshots. These tasks are fairly mechanical, but fairly easy to do that anyone can get involved (whereas writing a GA is hard) - naturally the scoring should reflect this.

After the art, I think the most immediately important part of the article are the reviews. So you could offer a couple of points for writing a sourced reception paragraph. Unlike the other sections of an article, the reception section is probably easiest to write without first hand knowledge of the game, and the sources used are fairly static.

That being said, all the current competitors are experienced editors that already know their shit. With some of the ideas I've put above, you could attract newer (or more gnomic) competitors if you did some outreach. Maybe there should be bonus points during the signup period if you can rope in more competitors, there could be points for nominating VG articles for DYK by non-competitors which could increase the project visibility and cup participation. hahnchen 22:31, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
