Scope of Project

Hi. I feel that the project page needs to define and list the scope of the project. In other words list what pages are (and aren't included in the project. I know that I would have found this helpful when I first joined the project, and it lets editors see where they can apply their effort. It might be a better alternative to the current long list of articles on the project page. I would propose the following as the scope of the project, based on the current practice. Please comment with any ideas or additions

  • Top importance: Surrey
  • High importance: Towns and boroughs
  • Mid importance:
    • All other settlements and parishes in Surrey
    • Surrey-wide institutions
  • Low importance:
    • Non-settlement places in Surrey
    • Institutions and buildings in Surrey: schools, hospitals, windmills, sports and other clubs
    • Transport links
    • Famous people

I'd also like to propose that the project scope concentrate on the area within the current administrative boundary of Surrey, the Surrey postal area within London, and historical articles within the traditional county of Surrey.

And can I suggest that, given the current number of editors on this project and the many articles currently within its scope, that we remove those articles that are within the scope of other Wikipedia projects. For example: schools, hospitals, windmills, horse races,

Since there's no-one (apparrently) driving/working on this project at present, you can do pretty much whatever you think would further the aims of Wikipedia...
With regard to removing articles, it is common practice for articles to be listed across whatever projects fit. And multiple projects should increase the number of editors watching/improving the pages. However, tightening the scope is probably not a bad thing.

I agree with your suggestions (as mentioned on your talk page), except for I think Top importance should also contain Surrey CC, Kingston and Guildford. I also feel that we should extend the scope to include important towns which used to be in Surrey i.e. Kingston and the like, as these articles will contain information about Surrey (in the History section). Schools

I have created a {{Schools in Surrey}} template designed to go on all school articles within the scope of this project. Fmph (talk) 08:25, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Surrey-related articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Surrey-related articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Sunday, November 14th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of November, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

If you have already provided feedback, we deeply appreciate it. For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 16:37, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Tillingbourne Bus Company/GA1

A GA review has started on Tillingbourne Bus Company. The article is in the early stages of being created, and there are gaps in detail and information, and the prose does not yet flow. However, the review is on hold for seven days to see if contributors are able to further develop the article to meet GA criteria. SilkTork *YES! 01:23, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Burrowhill

Hi,

I was strollong through Surrey villages and saw Burrowhill was in Woking District template, whereas on the picture it showas the village as being in Surrey Heath. Can anybody help me on this-Should it be in Woking's template?

Thanks, pbl1998--Pbl1998 (talk) 09:46, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

The short answer is no! The village is definitely in Surrey Heath, not Woking. I've changed this now, so it shouldn't be an issue. GlanisTalk 20:20, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi,

Thanks. I was just wondering.

Potential GA candidate: River Mole

I've added the River Mole article to the list of potential GA candidates. I've been editing the article (pretty much singlehandedly) for the past few years and think it's now getting close to going for GAN. There are a couple of topics which aren't currently dealt with particularly well, including flooding and the Molesey/Ember flood relief scheme. Mertbiol (talk) 10:06, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Notes on the churches in the counties of Kent, Sussex, and Surrey (1852) by Arthur Hussey

At English Wikisource, I have added the work s:Notes on the churches in the counties of Kent, Sussex, and Surrey by Arthur Hussey which contains an extensive notes section on the parish churches of the county. It has been a finicky work, however, I think that the detail and the images make it worthwhile. I hope that people are able to make use of the work for the village histories. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:26, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Collaboration

I have a few questions about the wikiproject:

  1. Who is active within the wikiproject? (I notice that several of the listed participants haven't edited Wikipedia for several years)
  2. Would anyone be interested in collaborating to improve one (or more) Surrey related articles?
  3. If so, are there any suggestions?

Thanks --Mrmatiko (talk) 15:58, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
