Help please: Would like to create a subpage for image questions/problems

Hello! I'm hoping someone who knows how the subpages of WikiProject Puerto Rico are set up can help me out here. What I'd like to have is a subpage where we can list images which may have problems with sources/licenses/whatever and then have people look at whether there really is a problem and what we can do to fix this. You can see more about this at Tony the Marine's talk page. This is a team effort and it's not reasonable to expect Tony to be able to do everything himself. It would be particularly useful if there was anyone on the project here who would be able to visit or phone NARA or US military archive offices to help with the checking process. If not, we can try the WP:MILHIST project or ask more widely. Very many thanks in advance for your help, Angus McLellan (Talk) 21:39, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

  • As you all know, certain situations among which are included my personal health, have led me take a leave of absence from Wikipedia, however I believe that the idea proposed by Angusmclellan is an excellent one. Instead of nominating Puerto Rican related images by the masses, the images which have problems will first be listed in the page which I just created:

Puerto Rican related images with problems

We will be given more then sufficient time as a "team" to find sources and make what ever fixes need be in order to keep them from being deleted. This is a Wiki-community team effort regardless of who uploaded the image. I ask all those who really care to post "WikiProject:Puerto Rico/Images with problems" in your "watchlists". Just a note that I have moved this page to WikiProject:Puerto Rico/Images with problems (i.e. I have inserted the colon). --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 01:23, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
I put it on my watchlist. Will see how I can help. Greetings, Mercy11 (talk) 01:53, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Page discovered

I guess I could be chided for spending so much time in "other endeavors" that I did not know this wonderful page even existed until I stumbled upon it last week. Well the discovery couldn't have been more timely: Please look at the following Discussion --> PR Hurricane, and present your point there, if you will. Note that I am not here asking for a handout in my favor, but instead if you will give your much-valued opinion on the matter--I don't care what it is (for or against), just one of those typical well-thought-out opinions of yours. I clarify that I come here not only because this is "the consequential place" to come to but, most importantly, I come because I have always been impressed by (and proud of) the dedication (and intelligence) of the group of editors I work with in this project. You are all thinkers, something that's not always present in other projects. Your "hurricane opinion" (whatever it is) just needs to have the same thoughful reasoning and intelligence that has so far characterized your other contributions to wikipedia.

On another note, let me to add this much: hurricanes are an important part of the personality of Puerto Rico today. They have defined much of the island's government, civil defense, economy, construction, society, and a host of other facets of Puerto Rican life. I was surprised to find out that hurricanes as impactful as San Ciriaco, San Felipe, San Cipriano, and Santa Clara, and even Hugo and David, are not part of the PR wiki project (or at least somehow "linked" to it). I recently mentioned this to Tony and he corrected, I believe, some if not all of them (Correction). I guess what I am suggesting now is that we integrate PR hurricanes more into the project. I think we can actually make those hurricanes part of the PR project in the "Discuss" page, in addition to adding the PR portal to their articles. Why should, for example, hurricane San Ciriano, the most devastating hurricane in Puerto Rico ever (Most devastating), be part of the NC wikiproject (NC), but not part of the PR wiki project?

Again, your insightful contribution to the hurricane article title change request (PR Hurricane)is welcome! Doing nothing about this will inevitably result in misinformation, as is the case of the wiki article for hurricane San Ciriaco that shows the hurricane's tracking map for Florida ([1]) instead of the tracking map for Puerto Rico, despite Puerto Rico having suffered astronomically more deaths and damage than Florida. Thanks in advance for your contribution at --> PR Hurricane. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 04:52, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Gave my opinion on the matter. Plus I added it to the project.El Johnson (talk) 23:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

2010 Central American and Caribbean Games

Hi, I wanted to bring to the attention of this WikiProject the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games Article. The games will be held in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, from July 17, 2010 to August 1, 2010. There is lots to be done, especially related to the following red linked articles; please see if you can contribute in any way: El Johnson (talk) 18:35, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Project Revamp!

Over the past 24 hours, I have designed a template (located here) to be placed on all WP:PUR sections. Also, I restructured the home page so I'd like for anyone curious to take a look at it. I have created a much more comfortable "Archive box" on this page now that I have archived all pre-2010 discussions. I don't know if anyone is going to read this, because this project isn't as active as I'd like it to be.

The reason I did all of this is because I'm going to give 90% of my Wikipedia attention to WikiProject Puerto Rico because I want my homeland's project to be much more active and, as a result, much more successful. I think a more organized workspace is better for everyone involved and might even invite some more people to begin editing.

I have already began editing Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and hope to get a DYK in the next few days and also get a Peer Review and GA nomination done in the next few weeks. I hope whomever is reading this joins in on the bandwagon and helps me make WP:PUR the "WikiProject of 2010". Feedback (talk) 05:16, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
