Up and running

@Faizan: @Umais Bin Sajjad: The project is up and running. Let's get into this as more information comes out over the next few weeks/months. We need to meanwhile expand our focus on recruiting more contributors for the project. There's a members section on the project page where interested contributors can sign up. Mar4d (talk) 07:36, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Good Job Mar4d! I will be looking into the jobs requiring attention shortly. We three are the founding members, eh? Faizan (talk) 10:59, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
Indeed, we are :) Maybe we can create the positions of coordinators who will take this project forward, like the IPL and BPL projects. Mar4d (talk) 11:16, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
I have uploaded the text logo here. Faizan (talk) 15:06, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
@Faizan: Thanks for that. We can use that as a substitute in case there's copyright issues with using the official logo. Can we figure out if the official logo has non-free rationale (meaning it can't be used anywhere except the original article)? Because if that is the case, we'll need to substitute it with the text logo in all other places. Need an expert opinion on this. @Umais Bin Sajjad: Your thoughts on this, as you uploaded the logo under public domain? Mar4d (talk) 15:18, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
I have uploaded a Pakistani version of the Barnstar on which a specimen for the PSL barnstar can be based. I cannot provide an expert opinion on logo copyright issues. The IPL logo is used under a non-free image use rationale though. Faizan (talk) 17:23, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to become Vice-Coordinator if founders don't have any problem. --Human3015TALK  18:24, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Human. It's not only up to the founding members to elect Coordinators. Anyhow, I think that you need to do more for the project prior to that. Faizan (talk) 11:04, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Faizan, actually you are really not founder the Project, Mar4d is founder and Umais is the Co-founder. Anyway, do you really think that these positions matters? These positions are usually made in hope that at least those 4-5 people who has some position in project will stay connected to the project and will contribute to the project. It is just to inspire others to contribute to project by giving some position.(like you have been made "founder"). Because most of people don't stay connected to the project over the months. This is really not job interview to say "you do some work for project then we will think about giving you some position by seeing your work".--Human3015TALK  19:53, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
@Human3015: you want to be a vice-coordinator? Fine! But atleast make a move to show whether you are interested in contribution or not. Or you waiting for the rank to take your part? Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 18:11, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
  • @Human3015, I appreciate your willingness to contribute to the project. I don't have any issues with anyone nominating themselves to a position if they feel they can add value to the project. Obviously, some of the roles of the coordinator/s would include things like inviting new WikiProject members, helping expand/improve relevant articles, putting in effort for DYKs, GA/FAs etc, proposing new ideas to take the project forward etc. I'm sure we can have a discussion on the scope of the coordinators' work when the time comes. We can also set a timeframe on how long a member can serve as coordinator. At the moment, as the project is small, and the bidding/franchising/tendering process of the league will continue till November, we don't have too many details to work with. So we probably don't need coordinators at this point (which is why I left the fields blank). Once more details come out and more articles are created, the project will expand and we can get all WikiProject members to self-nominate if they want and vote on who gets to be what. Everyone's welcome to contribute. Cheers, Mar4d (talk) 11:38, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Logo svg version

@Mar4d: @Faizan: can you generate the svg version of logo? Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 16:51, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi UBS. Which logo? The text one or both? Will a reliable image converter software work? Faizan (talk) 16:58, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
Better if both. I have no idea whether it is a 'conversion' thing or else otherwise I would have done it so far. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 17:02, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
I will be uploading automatically converted versions shortly. @Saqib: has got experience in dealing with SVG, can you have a look please? Faizan (talk) 17:13, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
Well, When it comes to SVG I have no experience. I used Inkscape to create maps. Thats it. --Saqib (talk) 17:26, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
All right. I have uploaded the text version here. I could not do well with the other one. Faizan (talk) 17:28, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
Faizan: This is the best i could do. --Saqib (talk) 17:46, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
@Faizan: your text logo could be used in page bottom template and @Saqib:'s logo could be used in stub template. What do you think? Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 17:54, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
If Saqib's logo and my text version could be merged, it would be better. I am not in favour of using it while it's incomplete. We can use the png version till we get the full version. Faizan (talk) 17:57, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
No @Faizan: merging would be not a good idea because we need these logos apart for this and this. And I just did what I said above. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 18:04, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
First we need to sort out the copyright issue with these logos. It's an official logo and it most likely has a non-free rationale. Meaning that using the logo anywhere apart from the main article is a copyright infringement and we'd need to remove it from all the templates and places we've used it so far. We need expert opinion on this issue. Mar4d (talk) 18:45, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
This is why I proposed a text logo in the discussion above. That is what the IPL and BPL articles do - none of these projects use the official logo anywhere apart from the main article. Even the logo used on IPL 8, IPL 7 and other seasons etc. uses a reproduced text version. Mar4d (talk) 18:47, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
@Mar4d: @Faizan: I have created a sample text version of PNG and SVG files, can we use this, I can change the color or font if you think it should be changed. Asimtanveer (talk) 03:32, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

So now we really need an expert who can illustrate the logo in svg otherwise we could only use the png on main. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 18:51, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

@Asimtanveer: you look good in graphics, please do change the PSL logo's font and colour to black. Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 09:05, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
The official font of PCB for PSL is "Palladio FS", which can be downloaded easily. Use that font. This one was not fine? We need more work on this one actually. Faizan (talk) 07:24, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
This text logo is fine, we should try to stay as consistent with the original logo as possible. It is also good if we could have another version of this same text logo with perhaps a little bit colour (perhaps dark green)? It's a derivative work anyway and doesn't have to be an exact copy. We can use the dark green text logo as a portal icon, on stub templates and elsewhere. I am not sure why the PCB chose black as the default text colour but that is a different topic altogether :) Mar4d (talk) 08:10, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Translations into other languages

Do we know anyone who could translate the main article for us into the Pashto, Kashmiri, Arabic, Persian and Bengali Wikipedias? Mar4d (talk) 06:41, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Pakistan Super League to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistan Super League/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the Tool Labs tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 04:26, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Islamabad United- Peshawar Zalmi rivalry

Hi, please comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Islamabad United- Peshawar Zalmi rivalry. --Human3015Let It Go  10:35, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Placeholders (Coordinator, Vice-Coordinator)

@Faizan: and @Mar4d: are currently inactive/blocked. I will ask @Umais Bin Sajjad: to comment on these edits -Anjana LarkaTalk 10:26, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

@Anjana Larka:, Hi, I have written on my user page that I am vice coordinator, you can also use coordinator's userbox. Moreover, I will increase my contribution to PSL once season started. You have created many articles on PSL teams, thanks for that, but if you create any other new article related to PSL then kindly inform me, I will nominate it for DYK. I can make any article to feature on main page. So I can help in that area. If you see someone else created PSL related article then also inform me within 7 days. We have to send invitations to many users to increase participants. Thank you.--Human3015Let It Go  11:19, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Human3015 I was waiting for a response from co-founder(s), will add this userbox on my userpage later. Karachi Kings is already mentioned in DYN. And will inform you if any help is required. Anjana LarkaTalk 11:44, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
That's nice Anjana Larka. Congrats for DYK. We can have more DYKs in this area. Our aim should be to promote PSL article to GA status, once 1st season will end there will be more sources available for many things, then we can bring PSL to GA status and can nominate for DYK. Anyway, I think founders or co-founders will not reply. We can ping our 10-12 members here and can ask them if you and me should become placeholders or not? What say?--Human3015Let It Go  12:00, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
This is a good idea but I think most members are inactive just like founders   Anjana LarkaTalk 12:10, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Anjana Larka, Mar4d is blocked but he is not inactive. He can access his talk page and he does reply to queries on talk page. If you want, you can ask this question on his talk page, he will surely reply.--Human3015Let It Go  12:24, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

AfD

I've just nominated 5 future PSL teams for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sialkot Smashers. The articles involved are:

Future seasons and teams

Hi all,

So - you seem to have articles on seasons from 2017 to 2021. That strikes me as a touch ambitious and a little too in need of a crystal ball for my liking. There's also an article on Sialkot Smashers who I don't think will come into existence for another year at least. Perhaps someone could take a deep breath and decide which of these articles actually belongs in an encyclopaedia? I'll see about some deletion in the meantime. Thanks. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:40, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Good step, keep your eye on them :) Umais Bin Sajjad (talk) 04:57, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

2017 Pakistan Super League article

So, the usual suspect is continually recreating the article on the 2017 edition - despite the fact that a) there was a clear AfD on this in January and b) there's no set date, indication of teams etc... yet. Yes, it'll probably happen, but we have deliberate attempts to recreate this when there is a clear AfD against that just yet. The editor is also adding a fictional (as yet) sixth team and imaging that games may be played in Pakistan - which I understand is a possibility for one or two games only as yet and heavily dependent on other stuff going on.

I've reverted as clear vandalism but the editor is continually changing back again and, frankly, I'm fed up with getting way too far beyond 3RR on my part. Could someone else wade in and have a look. I don't see any reasonable rationale to having an article in place for 2017 until something is actually concerned (see also the BPL and the issues that has had - and the MCL etc...) It's worse again to have semi-fictional crud being passed off as fact.

I think there needs to be blocking or protection going on on that article myself - but would welcome a greater consensus first. Blue Square Thing (talk) 22:08, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Lists of players

G'day. I've just been through the lists of players articles for each team and dropped them into a more standard format - the one used on just about every other cricket article list of players. Given that the three that already existed didn't even manage to get the lists of players right, let alone the performances and so on I can't really see how we'd ever keep the appearances and who was skipper and so on up to date - so they've gone. It also avoids the repetitive replacement of West Indian flags as well while we're at it.

I've gone to alphabetical listing of players as per the sources at CricketArchive. I've tried to give a rationale for this on each page (see, for example, List of Islamabad United cricketers. I wonder if someone could take a look at my rationale - in particular, the "standard naming format of their country of origin" element, and let me know if I'm on the right lines or not?

We also seem to have a shell article called List of Pakistan Super League cricketers which sort of strikes me as rather unnecessary. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:03, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Blue Square for your efforts, I think List of Pakistan Super League cricketers is necessary because its all about PSL and people will search for PSL cricketers more rather than for teams. Its good to have all lists access able from one place?
and new alphabetical lists are good and easy to maintain thanks for it
You removed some tables from List of Pakistan Super League records and statistics e.g: Most 6s and some sub headings, they should be there, we should have all the records listed there and sub heading for better navigation in Contents Menu. - Anjana Larka 14:56, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Wrt the records, yes I did remove some, simply because I was looking for simplicity to begin with. I'm not entirely certain how we'll source all-time records just now and which ones will actually be maintained as lists anywhere. Personally I wouldn't other with 6s, but then I'm more a red ball chap anyway. But, yes, there are other records which could be included - are there any decent sources.
Is there a better way to write the bit about names btw? Is the "first" name the personal name and the "last" name the family name, or does it vary so much that it's not worth trying to be specific? I'm essentially ignorant of the fine detail of these things. Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:15, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
In the subcontinent and specifically in Muslims their second/last name is there actual name for example in Mohammad Hafeez , Hafeez is his actual name. Only a few use family name as their last name.
And for sources of records you can use Cricinfo's Stats Guru to generate lists. - Anjana Larka 06:08, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
So, in the case of Mohammad Hafeez, I believe the standard practice is that we would list him under M? As a general rule? Thanks btw - as I say, I'm ignorant of the fine detail of this sort of thing. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:22, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Karachi Kings—Lahore Qalandars rivalry

I've prodded Karachi Kings—Lahore Qalandars rivalry initially but would welcome any suggestions - my suspicion is that similar articles where there is no evidence of actual rivalry taking place are deleted at AfD, but I'd like to canvas other opinion as well. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:28, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

PROD contested so now at AfD - see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Karachi Kings—Lahore Qalandars rivalry. All contribution welcome - there may be sources in languages such as Urdu which might confirm the rivalry. Thanks. Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:21, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

PSL 2019

@The Floka: @Samee: @JogiAsad: @M.Billoo2000: @TheGreatWikiLord: @Wiki.0hlic: - Any reason why Peshawar Zalmi in 2019 and Quetta Gladiators in 2019 are still a red-link? A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.
