Notability edit

Do we agree that all these musicals listed under "articles needing creation" are notable enough to deserve their own entries? I suspect many of them are obscure for a very good reason  :) Ssilvers 00:23, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree, but how, exactly, do we decide which ones are "non-notable"? -DrGaellon (talk | contribs) 16:34, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have added some information regarding "The Man With A Load of Mischief". Turns out there was new recording released just a couple of years ago. This show is very fun and has some great songs. Jrmorones 20:01, 6 July 2007 (UTC)JackReply

Someone created a stub for Alive and Kicking, but it's literally one line, naming the theatre and dates of the run. Nothing actually ABOUT the show - so I'm inclined to leave it here as a flag to someone that it needs work. -DrGaellon (talk | contribs) 16:34, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I expanded Alive and Kicking with what little information I could find. ConoscoTutto 21:48, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I found a little bit more info and a couple of references. If someone feels energetic, they could consolidate a song list (and even indicate who sang each one) from the songs listed in the IBDB reference. -- Ssilvers 04:07, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's difficult to tell from the IBDb listing which are song titles and which are sketch titles, which is why I didn't use it as a source for a song list.
I'm still feeling my way as to what is appropriate to include in an article. Ssilvers added the comment to Alive and Kicking, "Ziegfeld Follies-style musical reviews were still popular in 1950, but soon afterwards, the introduction of variety shows on television made the theatrical revue almost obsolete." I would appreciate it if he (she?) or someone else could explain how this pertains to this particular musical. Isn't that an observation that belongs in the general article about musical theatre? There doesn't seem to be anything about the statement that specifically applies to Alive and Kicking. Thank you. ConoscoTutto 15:17, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think it gives some context for understanding the revue's place in musical theatre of the time. As I looked at references to try to find more information, at least two of them stated this (or something like it), so authors find it significant in connection with describing this revue that the era of the musical review was coming to an end. Feel free to look at the references I cited and massage the language. -- Ssilvers 16:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Where did these come from? edit

I'm looking at this list, and I noticed that a musical on this list, Flapper (musical), had been created (at Flapper!) and was deleted in an AfD as being NN, it was recreated, and speedily deleted as a recreation of deleted material. Does anyone know where these came from? Why they deserve inclusion in WP? If they even exist? It seems a little capricious. Conversely, do we have a way of pre-determining which articles should be created? —  MusicMaker5376 00:38, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The only thing I can suggest is to do a google search for each one, and if a musical doesn't seem notable or can't be found, eliminate it from the list. If it turns out to be notable, no problem, it can always be added later, but in the meantime, the list will be more useful. I'd be willing to take a couple of letters of the alphabet and check those. Can we split up the task with several other editors? Mark E, Crystallina, etc.? I think Jean would help, too. -- Ssilvers 14:27, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Miracles edit

I can't find any information about this musical. Does anyone know for a fact if Joseph Stein ever completed the project? If he did, was it ever produced anywhere? If not, should it be included in his template? Thank you. ConoscoTutto 15:46, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ken Bloom's American Song edit

Are you going to go through Ken Bloom's 2-volume "American Song: The Complete Musical Theatre Companion"? -- kosboot (talk) 07:15, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Not only would that be a monumuental task, it's a little harder to argue that every single title in such a comprehensive reference work is notable enough to warrant a fully researched article. Also, extremely long lists are much less useful (in my opinion). Come to think of it, for the songwriters that have major sections in Bloom's Tin Pan Alley volumes[1] it probably would be valuable to cross-check in the same way. --Joseph Hewes (talk) 15:10, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Joseph. Not every musical should have an article. I would rather that the existing stub and start articles in the project be improved and expanded before we seek out the names of obscure works to document. Nearly all of our articles are Stubs and Starts; only a very small percentage are C, B or higher, which is not good. For one thing, we would merely be copying info from the Bloom book to Wikipedia, without adding much other value. Better just to list the Bloom book in some appropriate places as "Further reading". -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:15, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Play On! edit

Hi guys! Created the article for Play On! and removed it from the list Mistamystery (talk) 16:49, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Good. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:12, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
