Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested
Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Georgia, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Georgia, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.
The articles in question are listed in Category:Georgia articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:
- Chuburkhindji
- Gardabani (historic district)
- Gulripshi District
- Kodori River
- Kvemo Bargebi
- Machakhlistskal(i)
- Pankisi Gorge
...and there are many more. At the time of posting this notice, there were 97 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.
Why add coordinates?
By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.
How can I do it?
The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Seeking help: Patriotic TV ad on Georgian Public Broadcasting
Can anyone help me expand on the following sufficiently to make it a worthwhile addition to some relevant article?
Back in September, I ran across a one-minute TV spot aired on Georgian Public Broadcasting. (The SCOLA satellite/cable channel airs about an hour's worth of GPB programming every day in the USA.) With some help from Georgian-speaking acquaintances, I've determined the piece includes about a dozen Georgian actors and singers urging viewers to "stand together so our country can survive", and culminating with several of them saying "მე მიყვარს საქართველო" (me miq'vars sakartvelo — "I love Georgia"). It's entirely in Georgian, so it was clearly intended for domestic consumption within the country. Depending on one's background, I imagine it could be described as anything from a "patriotic public service announcement" to a nationalistic, emotional propaganda piece.
You can see the video here on YouTube. I've assembled a set of screen shots with the people involved. My friends also helped me put together a transcript and a tentative identification of the people.
It seems to me that some mention of this piece (whatever its origin, and despite — or perhaps even because of — its obvious biases) might be appropriate in the "Protests regarding 2008 South Ossetia war" article. However, I think I should try to find some more background info — such as who produced it, whether it's been shown frequently or just a few times, whether it's still being aired at all, etc. I've tried asking people at several official places in Georgia, but no one has ever replied to me. I also tried asking on the talk page for the above article, but without success.
