Use of noinclude tags edit

Previously, we had the DYK section of the Footy Portal which was updated rarely by the DYK project and footy members (for rarely, read: once sometime in 2006). Since we now have a repository of footy dyk's that is a bit more likely to be updated, I thought it might be a good idea to capitalise on it and use it to show our latest 5 entries on other pages (the portal, peoples userpages, project pages, wherever). This is achievable through the use of <noinclude> </noinclude> tags, which are part of the wikimarkup for templates. Any page can be transcluded into another, but these tags allow you to pick and choose content to be shown. e.g.

... that in 2023, footballer Funso Ojo was named as Port Vale's PFA community player of the year for his efforts at becoming more environmentally friendly? (14 September 2023)
... that according to sportswriter Jon Henderson, the 1943 Football League War Cup final was "widely regarded as the greatest club football match of the war"? (16 September 2023)
... that Dear England tells the story of how manager Gareth Southgate helped change notions of masculinity for the men's national football team? (17 September 2023)
... that Seattle Sounders FC players held their practices over Zoom during part of their 2020 season? (26 September 2023)
... that tickets on secondary markets for the 2023 Leagues Cup final ranged from $484 to $12,000 within a day of release? (28 September 2023)

This is a live demonstration of using <noinclude> </noinclude> tags on the page and then transcluding it (like a template) as

{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Did you know}}

If it's a good idea, I'll replace the current Portal DYK with this. It's a lot easier than manually updating it (why update two pages with the same information) and a lot easier than trying to create a random fact generator. Plus it will mean that this area of the Portal will always have the most current entries on show (dependant on this page being updated). Nanonic 01:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
