WikiProject maintenance

Since I am no longer doing any maintenance for this WikiProject, it would be nice if one or more members would step up to handle some of the things that I've been doing. One of the tasks that I regularly did was read the weekly Signpost publication's Features and admins page to keep track of any articles, lists or images that have been promoted to Featured status, and also which articles have been downgraded from Featured article status.

For example: the 2007-03-05 issue shows that the List of California birds became a featured list, and the Ridge Route article was de-featured. For the previous week (2007-02-26), Image:DSCN2857pano.small.jpg, a panorama photo of Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, California became a featured photo. Also that week was a mention in the News and notes section that there were a couple of California photos under consideration for the commons:Picture of the Year. Those photos could probably be mentioned in the Featured photos section of the WikiProject.

(One thing that I never found the time for was to go through Commons:Featured pictures to make note of any images related to California, if anyone wants to tackle that task. All of the Pictures of the Year at Commons were also Featured photos. A quick look at the chronological lists shows several Featured photos at commons that have California connections, including Image:Gull portrait ca usa.jpg, Image:USA Lassen NP Kings Creek CA.jpg, Image:Los Angeles Pollution.jpg, Image:Hawk eating prey.jpg, Image:Golden Gate Bridge Yang Ming Line.jpg, and Image:Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.jpg)

I have been doing this for both the California and the Southern California WikiProjects. It would probably be easiest if the same person continued to do it for both projects. BlankVerse 15:29, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Award

There is curently a proposal for a WikiProject California Award. I proposed expanding it to include this WP. Check out the link and feel free to comment. --evrik (talk) 21:52, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

  • There is currently a final vote being held on a WikiProject Award for all California related projects. You may wish to give your input here. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 19:30, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Photo request for Main Page soon

Can someone take a picture of the Hanna-Barbera Building at 3400 Cahuenga Boulevard in LA (see [1] [2] [3])? It would make a great free image for Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 12, 2007. Thanks guys.--Pharos 23:06, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll try to swing by the Hanna-Barbera place this week if i can, but i added a photo of CBS Television City which was requested also. Take a look Minnaert 20:54, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

This is no longer high priority as April 12 has passed, so don't feel pressed. Still looks like an interesting building, though. Thanks.--Pharos 21:13, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Portal

SFBA has a portal. Why don't we? Is anyone up for creating one? howcheng {chat} 22:06, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

WikiProjectBannerShell

Anyone have any objection to converting the WikiProject banner for use in {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}? If there are none within a week, I'll put in a request to have the WP:SOCAL banner converted. howcheng {chat} 16:14, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I converted the banner last night--if anyone does have an objection, feel free to revert and discuss. I converted the banner because wikiproject california was already converted for bannershell, and yet, that's pointless if the subprojects do not also convert. Since much of the discussion above indicated that members of these projects at least wanted a smoother working relationship--I felt that this was one way to do so that didn't affect what work each project did. new cat/userboxes

I've made some changes to the project page, mainly substituting socal templates and cats for california templates and cats where it was appropriate too. This included getting the wikiproject userbox undeleted and moved to the proper project space.

I've edited the userbox and the userbox now automatically adds users to a new category: Category:WikiProject Southern California participants

I also added links to this userbox and how to add yourself to the cat up at the participants list, in order to encourage users to add themselves to the category. The templates are acres away on the project page and if you haven't really gone through the whole page, you may not know about them. It makes sense to have links to the applicable template at the participant list.

Hopefully this will help with organization a little, though I am a little concerned about the pace at which this project seems to move. It seems to me that both this project and WikiProject California are seriously overburdened, especially considering the number of active volunteers their seem to be. I've asked people on both projects to assess a particular article and weigh in at it's ongoing peer review and I've managed to get zero comments from anyway related to wiki project california, southern or otherwise, and I asked a week ago for input.

Anyway, let me know what you think of the changes. Miss Mondegreen | Talk   08:36, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Bertrand Russell GA/R

I have nominated Bertrand Russell for WP:GA/R due to inadequate referencing. I hope the article gets the attention it deserves during this process to retain its quality rating. Please see discussions at Wikipedia:Good_article_review#Bertrand_Russell. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 16:53, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
