Just FYI, the "reminder" popup window makes it impossible to edit in Safari

Hey all. Some bug in the popup window when using the Timeless skin and Safari means you cannot close the "window" (which actually appears at the very bottom of the page) with either option, and there's some code in that "popup" that disables all editing. Hi @Fox, this is an issue with the old script at User:Ed6767/redwarn.js - the pop up is a final reminder for the users who haven't yet transitioned to the new RedWarn script at User:RedWarn/.js as I plan to request deletion of the original script page soon. There has already been nearly a month of notice via pop ups and alerts, but we've decided to close the grace period now hence the dialog prompting immediate action. Ordinarily there's a button to dismiss this, however Safari isn't supported by RedWarn so we don't test for it and we understand bugs do occur, but Safari support is something we're working on in the future. ✨ Ed talk! ✨ 21:27, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

@IamNotU: The rollback options (as seen in contributions pages, for example) are not available in the page history. For that, please use the diff view shown by selecting the "prev" link of the latest revision, or use the Latest Revision button () in the page icons list (at the top right of the article, on the other side of the article title). Ok, thanks. I guess it's a "feature request" then. I use Twinkle's "rollback/vandalism/restore this version" links from the article history much of the time (I wish it was available from my watchlist too). I rarely open a diff page because it takes several seconds on my old computer. I use inline diffs instead, which speeds up my work by an order of magnitude... having to go back and forth between the history and diff pages in order to use RW's rollback would slow things down for my workflow.

It could be done by putting RW's rvv/rb links, like on contrib pages, optionally in history and watchlist pages too. But if it's feasible, it would be even better if there was a link to pop up RW's customizable rollback toolbar directly from those pages. --IamNotU (talk) 14:04, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I've recently started to edit again on Wikipedia after toning down the edits a bit, and I just thought it'd be nice to have welcoming templates like on Twinkle. I just switch over from Twinkle, however I notice that whenever I rollback vandalism and issues warning to the user. RedWarn would automatically add that user page to my watchlist permanently. In Twinkle, there's option to specify if you would like to add the user page to your watchlist permanently, for 1 week, for 1 month, for 3 months, for 6 months, or don't add.

As of now, there's no way to customize the addition of pages onto your watchlist. The setting in your Watchlist preferences is applied when creating/editing user talk pages. You may disable "Add pages I create and files I upload to my watchlist" in case you would like to stop adding user talk pages you create to your watchlist, however this will also stop you from getting watchlist updates for pages that you create on your own if you happen to write pages. Hi RedWarn community, I have started to use RW quite recently and I must say that its extremely user-friendly and I find it very useful while patrolling the recent changes log. However, on a few occasions something really weird keeps on happening. When I tried sending a new message on an editors's talk page using RW, if the net connectivity is poor (so it takes a log time to load the page) and I either close the tab or refresh the page, I accidentally end up blanking that talk page. Hi Ashleyyoursmile, that is very odd. Have you experienced this issue while warning users? I could only assume that each time this happens it has to be because your internet connection, or the connection between you and Wikipedia drops to a very very slow speed as each of these changes seem to be made of pages that are already quite big, so while RedWarn is reuploading the page content when you close the tab or refresh the page your browser closes all active connections. If this is during the process of the page contents being transmitted, I assume Wikipedia thinks that that's the end of the request, hence the large removals. Either way, we're going to work to mitigate the issue by replacing the existing algorithm with one that only appends the new content to a page as the existing one is old and evidently buggy. Bug?

I just attempted to rollback an edit for vandalism and it looked like it did so and directed me to the vandal's talk page. A warning was issued, but it replaced the previous warnings instead of being at the bottom. When I returned to the page the rollback had not occurred. Diff of the warning and eventual reversion here, using *gasp* Twinkle.

"No search results found for section" notice after user warning

After warning a user and being taken to their talk page, I always see some text like this immediately below "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia": "No search results found for section "noticeApplied-999895695-999692148" in archives. It may have been removed or renamed, or you may have followed a malformed link." I don't see that when I'm not using RedWarn, and it goes away if I move elsewhere then come back to the user talk page. MichaelMaggs (talk) 14:16, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

This is a side-effect of User:SD0001/find-archived-section attempting to search for a noticeApplied-999895695-999692148 section in the talk page's archives, since the same string is used by RedWarn to determine applied notices. Hi, I just installed RW. The first thing I noticed is that on every page there's a strange white bar stuck onto the page, a ways down from the top. It moves with the page as I scroll it. Here's a screenshot: [4]. I used Dark Reader in Firefox, and only see it when it's on. I can't select it using the DOM Inspector in the Web Console, it's like it's not there. @Ed6767: It's caused by the toast box which is (normally) hidden outside of the viewport. It stays there until a new toast is issued to MDL. On my personal projects, I make sure to delete the toast box's element after a toast is shown, and regenerate it when a new toast is about to be shown, but RedWarn doesn't do that (as of now). Thanks Chlod - I did a little more troubleshooting, here are steps to reproduce it, at least on macOS:

1. In the latest Firefox, create a clean profile and install Dark Reader
2. Log in to a Wikipedia account with RedWarn installed
3. Set the Dark Reader mode to "Filter" or "Filter+"
4. Scroll down the screen just a little, the white bar appears

It doesn't seem to happen in Vivaldi (chromium-based) or Safari. I suppose it may be a bug in Dark Reader rather than RedWarn. As I mentioned, I wasn't able to fix it by adjusting the CSS in Dark Reader, but maybe I just don't know the magic words. I'll see if I can work around it by using Dynamic mode, but that tends to slow down page loads a lot. --IamNotU (talk) 15:55, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Tried to post a Bot Username warning to User talk:BarryBrownBot. The draft message read "I noticed that your username, "API", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy ... ". "API" should presumably have read "BarryBrownBot". I posted it manually. MichaelMaggs (talk) 10:47, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@MichaelMaggs, technically we probably won't be able to do this as MediaWiki (the software that runs Wikipedia) generates the code for the preview through their API (hence the page name being "API" and this the username showing as "your username, 'API'...", but we'll look in to a way to not make it as confusing. Please take a look at this. You may need to try it out. The first attempt necessarily fails due to the prompt to check the log. The second attempt will succeed. Can this process be gracefully handled by RW without a fatal error for the RW prompt. Ideally the red coloured log screen could be shown to the user in the RW window, and then if the user wants to continue posting, then he can click submit button twice.

At the bare minimum, The RW should not have a fatal error while adding this temple. RW must allow the user to proceed to the second attempt without redoing the whole process. --Walrus Ji (talk) 12:30, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Is it possible to merge User:Writ_Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js into this extension (as it is a very powerful tool if used right)? Based on tool examination, it uses the direct rollback links, which only exist if you have rollback privileges. For that reason, it is incompatible without rollback. It is highly useful for spambots and rapid-fire vandals that hit ten or more pages a minute, and are tedious to revert manually. I have had to mass rollback spambot vandals who typed the same thing on 5 pages every ten seconds, and it takes time for admins to block. Steve M (talk) 02:35, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Walrus Ji, thanks for reporting this bug. Currently the exact cause of this bug is unknown, however it only seems to occur when there is another section underneath the date header. Asartea has filed this bug as #64, as some of the RedWarn team are currently taking a break, this may takel longer to get fixed than usual. However, thanks for reporting it! Up and down arrows next to the RW icons in Articles

Redwarn icons with up and down arrow

Hi RW team, I am seeing Up and down buttons to the RW icons in Article diffs. Not shown in User talk diffs. Is this intentional? what is the purpose of those up-down buttons.--Walrus Ji (talk) 16:14, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Chlod, this issue came up since yesterday. If you open the diff page, and hit zoom with ctrl +, you should be able to see the arrow buttons. It is easily reproduced. If you still need screenshot then please let me know. Walrus Ji (talk) 17:48, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

​ I've tried reproducing this issue, however the up and down arrows don't appear. The problem also doesn't appear with other browsers, according to other team members. ​ I've attempted to reproduce this issue using the exact browser settings you sent over email, however to no avail. Because of that, I'm going to have to take a blind shot and ask you to put this in your common.css file. Chlod, the same fix should also be applied to the "Restore this version" icon of RW. i.e. the icon on top of the details of the previous version, on a diff screen. "More" reasons to revert panel not working

Whenever I try to revert an edit for any reason outside of the ones that appear outside of the "more options" panel (the three dots), nothing save for the "vandalism statistics", "RW prefs", and "RW talk" panels show up. @Ed6767: I'm using the default skin, Vector. As for RedWarn skins, I'm using Minimal, but it doesn't work with WikiBlue either. This occurs on any diff on which I can perform the RedWarn rollback feature (I don't have the rollback perm). Opalzukor, I am just a RW user, not the RW dev. I looked at User:Opalzukor/redwarnConfig.js and User:Walrus_Ji/redwarnConfig.js, your page looks much bigger. If I were you. I will try to reset the app and see if it works.

The reset steps will be,

1. (take a back up of config.js page)
2. uninstall the RW app.
3. Blank the RW config.js page (if it is not already blanked)
4. and then try installing RW a fresh.

It might solve the problem quickly. If not you can always restore your config.js from your back up.

 Note: Whilst these would be the recomended steps, Opalzukor's config is likely bigger as they have installed more template packs. However please do follow the steps above, they will likely fix the problem. @Chlod:​​ Thanks, I just found it. It was User:Þjarkur/CleanDiffURLs.js which, per the doc page, changes diff links to Special:Diff. This would mean that the redwarn UI has a slight issue with special pages. Next, I'll check for an edit on a special page and see if the menu works there. I just realised how special pages work. Also, when viewing a diff via Special:Diff the redwarn tools don't even show up. Opal|zukor^(discuss) 14:43, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

@Opalzukor: The tools should show up since Special:Diff is just a shortcut to /w/index.php?diff=. The problem, however, is that RedWarn relies on links within the diff viewer to lead to index.php instead of Special:Diff in order to determine whether a page is a diff page or not. If it's not a bother, you'll have to uninstall CleanDiffURLs until that check is changed, since plans to change it are set for way later (i.e. our ongoing rewrite, which is not yet complete.) Inappropriate edit summary warning levels

Is it possible to add Template:uw-bes1, and the related series (2, 3, 4, 4im)? I feel it would be beneficial to have a series of warnings for inappropriate edit summaries rather than two warnings that do not fit ever situation. Ed6767, I believe it says "may be removed", which implies the future. Uw-wrongsummary is only a 1-way warning, and it not sufficient for edit summary vandalism. I saw a racist edit summary, that deserved a stern warning, as it isn't a good-faith mistake to put a racist slur in the edit summary. uw-wrongsummary doesn't cover that, as it has the tone of a level 1 warning. It needs a series in order for good-faith mistakes as well as bad-faith summaries can be addressed. the summary in question got revdelled hours later, so if it is in future tense, it can be ok, as it implies that the summary may be deleted in the future. I just reverted a edit using RedWarn on Kosovo-Montenegro relations . But while warning RedWarn replaced the hyphen with some weird text and made it a red-link .1 Is this a bug or do I have to manually edit to fix the links . Kpgjhpjm 06:00, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Kpgjhpjm! I've tried to reproduce this on my end, but to no avail. To my knowledge, this is problem caused by a character encoding mistake. By default, this bug shouldn't be happening unless you're using a very old version of Windows, as all contact with Wikipedia from RedWarn should be encoded in UTF-8, the universally-supported character set. Because of this, the most probable thing we can assume is that your browser (or operating system) might be misconfigured to use the incorrect character set, and thus causing the en dash (–) to render as –. However, we'll still run some checks on our end to see if we can alleviate this problem and we'll get back to you when we've found something. Chlod (RW • say hi!) 10:38, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
