Redirects to new articles edit

"+1 (the bot doesn't notice when a redirect is turned into a full article!)"
I've noticed this myself when I have posted new articles over a redirect. Would it be possible to modify the bot to detect this and list such articles as new? – Matthew25187 (talk) 11:19, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think this would be a change not to the bot, which works off Special:NewPages (or the API equivalent), but to the software, which could detect when a redirect page is changed to a non-redirect and add it to NewPages. You might like to raise this at Village pump/Proposals for discussion, but for it to be treated as an enhancement request it would need to be entered into WP:Bugzilla.-gadfium 22:15, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
has someone been fiddling with the bot? It relisted all the articles from 25 April which ahd been transferred to Wikipedia:New articles (New Zealand) - it is supposed to ignore anything already on that page, and has until now. dramatic (talk) 02:11, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

How does this work edit

I've created quite a bit of NZ content, but this never gets picked up by the bot. Not a biggie, but is there any reason why that would be? Schwede66 23:39, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I wonder if this is because you create the articles in your userspace, and then move them to article space once they are polished. The bot correctly does not include pages in userspace, and it appears that it does not pick up such moves as new articles.-gadfium 05:48, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, it's true that all my articles come from my userspace. So maybe that's it. Schwede66 08:44, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
As I understand it the bot is relatively stupid. Make sure that you link from your NZ content to the New Zealand page. It's always worked for me. Stuartyeates (talk) 02:52, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
You can see the keywords the bot uses and the relative priority of each at User:AlexNewArtBot/NZ. A log of how many points each article gets is at User:AlexNewArtBot/NZLog. If an article gets 14 or more points it is considered by the bot to be a "New Zealand" article.-gadfium 03:38, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, what we suspected above is indeed the case. If you create an article in userspace, the bot will not pick it up once you move it into mainspace, regardless of what you do / the number of points. I'm keeping an eye on the activities of a few users who write in their userspace and add those articles to the list manually. Schwede66 16:44, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

bot broken edit

Has anybody followed up regarding the broken bot? There won't be many new articles at this time of the year, but not none since 24 Dec. Schwede66 04:00, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

There'll be lots of articles, since all the New Years' honours people are now notable and many have an easily found bio in their local rag. But no, I've not followed it up. Stuartyeates (talk) 02:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
The bot is broken again. Has somebody had the time to follow up? I for one have always found this service quite useful. It's interesting to know what's going on. Schwede66 05:21, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Someone has. I think that it is just an issue of time, unfortunatley... Adabow (talk · contribs) 07:28, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hamilton Walker edit

I'm in the process of writing a Wiki article on Hamilton Walker and have found that the Auckland library has a file with articles, etc on him. If any Auckland based Wikipedian can add information from that source to my article, it would be appreciated. He is quite interesting having developed his own rotary engine that was going to be used in a 1969/1970 car designed by Ferris de Joux and financed by UEB Industries. I am still trying find out more about Walker's background, why the project did not proceed, and any information on his inventions. NealeFamily (talk) 08:25, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Litter in New Zealand edit

I have recently added a significant amount of content to Litter in New Zealand. This article was originally a stub article with nothing except a lead section. I would appreciate it if the article were now assessed and given a new class rating if appropriate. Thank you! Isabel.miriam (talk) 04:41, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Isabel.miriam: The request should be made at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand/Assessment#Requesting an assessment. I've copied it there for you. The article looks great - good work. I'd assess it myself but don't have the time to do a decent job of it just now.-gadfium 01:50, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
