Work closely with Wikipedia:Help Project edit

I've been working on WP:Workshop for a couple months and only recently finally discovered Wikipedia:Help Project as a place to communicate with others. I just added this project to its "Open Tasks" list. (Note: not sure if it's a "paid" fellowship that will keep you more on top of things but otherwise noting that: integrating this project into it is important so it doesn't become one more project that runs out of steam, including because of the confusing and sometimes daunting redundancies. So one of first things this project should do is help re-organize and promote that page, with this as a subproject of it. CarolMooreDC 14:12, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Carol. Yes, moving this to within the Help Project is something I think would be a great idea, and I'm planning to do it soon. the wub "?!" 19:10, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Great. Just read your timeline and will try not to be too impatient. But then my interest waxes and wanes. But I tend to be bold when it's waxy!
I noticed when I searched "WP:Help project" there were a bunch of subpages. (Not sure how else one identifies self pages if not otherwise listed on a main page. And guess you'd want to create more.) Plus of course Help:____ vs. WP:___ (project) pages and doubtless others. As looking at WP:Help project CarolMooreDC 20:40, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

User groups? edit

Hello, great project! do you have any specific plans to prepare resources to help academics? If yes, I'd like to contribute, if no, then I'll be building on what we have at Wikipedia:Wikipedia_editing_for_research_scientists and I'd love to hear from you. Volunteer recruitment/coordination edit

Thanks for leading this.

If you find volunteers who are strong at editing this kind of help documentation, please feel free to let me know about them as well; they might benefit from a bit of MediaWiki tutoring so they know more about what's going on "under the hood," and we'd be happy to have their input as we test, deploy, and roll out new versions of MediaWiki to the WMF sites.

How to join in such documentation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aba023 (talkcontribs) 02:24, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Let's do this! :-) edit

Improving help pages is a task I've been willing to take on for a long time. I've done a few things at the French Wikipedia, and improved a few designs here and there. But I felt I couldn't do everything alone, and I'm happy to see that you are leading this project. I have red books about usability and user experience, so I believe I can be of help.

I'm pleased to see that you liked my breadcrumb design at the accessibility project. I think the lack of structure - or navigation architecture - is the biggest problem of help pages. Along with the fact that help pages are written for everyone at the same time, and are not targeting a specific audience. You saw all that, and I believe you are in the right direction.

I made an example of a new architecture for help pages: User:Dodoïste/Help and the subpage User:Dodoïste/Help/Brand new editors. One link, one description. I feel it is needed for the reader to know where he is going. But the description could be improved, it's only an example. What do you think of the concept ? Yours, Dodoïste (talk) 08:57, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Dodoïste, yes I absolutely agree that navigating the help pages is a huge problem at the moment. I really like your concept, it's very nice and simple. That's definitely the direction I was thinking of heading in too, once I get to the stage of making some designs. the wub "?!" 20:44, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Cool. Let me know when you get into the design stage, I'll be pleased to give a hand. :-) Dodoïste (talk) 20:51, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am beginning some work with project retention and for project help. I have begun with a simple update to the Project Council directory and will also be adding the key pages to that directory template.--Amadscientist (talk) 20:19, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

What's next? edit

Hello - I am not sure where I can sign up to be one of the people who personally assists you. This project is extremely important and I really appreciated your (the wub's) presentation at the fellowship talk at Wikimania. Fixing the help pages is critical! Can you break of the project into a set of tasks to be delegated and done? Also, how I should I stay informed of news? Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:19, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
