Discussion of JJE's argument regarding using the Odyssey and Iliad as a source

edit

(Moved my reply to Buidhe's reply to my delist here since it's kind of offtopic) Yes, but they are secondhand information. Good - nay, necessary - for analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis about the literature but I'd still use the literary works themselves as examples & sources for these examples. In my experience, using secondary sources for non-analytical, evaluative, interpretive, or synthetic claims often results in errors sliding in instead.
