Wikimedian in Residence Program
editIn July 2024, Equis launched the Wikimedian in Residence (WIR) program. This program aims to address the significant underrepresentation of the U.S.-based Latino community on Wikipedia, both in English and Spanish.
Focus Areas
editThe WIR will play a pivotal role in bridging the Latino community and the broader Wikimedia community. This position is vital for ensuring that culturally relevant, neutral, and accurate information is created and disseminated. The responsibilities of the WiR include:
- Community Outreach: Engaging with Latino communities and Wikipedia editors to raise awareness about the importance of representation on Wikipedia and to encourage participation for Latinos across Wikimedia projects.
- Content Development: Collaborating with community members to create and enhance articles in both English and Spanish, ensuring they reflect the richness and diversity of Latino culture.
- Training and Support: Providing training sessions and support for new and existing Latino contributors to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
