History of Argentina, Brazil, and Chile from independence until the end of the Cold War. Lectures and readings cover slavery, independence, caudillos, wars against indigenous groups, War of the Triple Alliance, War of the Pacific, immigration, Marxist-influenced movements, labor, unions, populism, Peronism, Vargas era, Allende, and Cold War dictatorships. But any topic about events or people from these countries in this period would be acceptable for students to research and edit.
