Course Description: Survey of world cultures, primarily non-literate, using various anthropological approaches; development from simple to more complex cultural systems.

Assignment summary: In lieu of completing a traditional term paper, students will work alone or with a partner to identify a page on Wikipedia covering a non-western society or culture that is missing information. Students will then conduct library research on this information gap and write a short contribution to the Wikipedia page. Students can choose from a list of suggested pages or submit your own for approval.

Assignment - Find a Page, Do Some Research, Evaluate an Article

This is the first big due date for your project! Look through Wikipedia to find a page you are interested in or choose from the article list on our Dashboard.

You will complete the "Evaluate Wikipedia" exercise on the page you wish to work on. Remember that you cannot fully complete this exercise without completing preliminary research! You should have an idea of what gap is present in the page and if there is research to fill it at this point.

Now that you've improved your draft based on others' feedback, it's time to move your work live - to the "mainspace."

Milestones

As your work is live on Wikipedia, your work may be edited. Keep an eye on this. If your work is removed, it is your responsibility to politely reach out to the editor to learn and to move forward. These interactions should be addressed in your reflective essay.
