Sonic and the Secret Rings edit

I am renominating this article for peer review because its first FAC failed and I am planning on pursuing a second one in the future. The first FAC failed on time constraints rather than on not assessing the reviewers' complaints, so I'm unsure what is standing between the article's current state and an ideal FA state. Comments are appreciated. Tezero (talk) 18:23, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sonic and the Secret Rings is a video game → what type of video game?
  • It is the first Sonic game for the console, following ... → One could easily drop the comma there and consider that a WP:PLUSING; I'd replace "following" with something else that doesn't end in "-ing".
  • Again, Sonic and the Secret Rings is a three-dimensional platform and action game featuring an on-rails style of movement. (see boldface) Please go through, locate, and correct any other instances of "noun plus '-ing'".
  • Thrusting the Wii Remote forwards performs a homing attack, ... → The "thrusting" performs a homing attack, or does Sonic perform the homing attack? That should be made more clear.
  • contact with certain obstacles and enemies scatters them away, and Sonic dies if he touches an enemy without any rings. → I haven't played this particular Sonic game, but I'm assuming that touching any dangerous obstacle (i.e. a spike or lava or something) without rings results in death. You may wish to include that in there.
  • and sometimes new levels are unlocked by completing missions. Successful missions earn Sonic experience points, which advance him levels. → You may wish to differentiate between the two types of levels here (i.e. a "level" as in a "stage" and a "level" as in "experience").
  • First paragraph in the "Reception" section, I don't think the semicolons are absolutely necessary. I think you could reword them and eliminate the semicolon usage there (at least replace them with shorter-sounding commas).
  • Reviewers praised its visuals, but criticized ... → incorrect comma usage; remember commas are only used in this manner to separate two independent clauses. There are several other instances in that section which also need to be corrected.
  • The title of the game in the citations also need to be italicized for consistency reasons.
  • The citation for Computer and Video Games: the publication needs to be italicized as it is originally a magazine (whereas pure web sources are not italicized).
  • WP:NFCC issues with File:Shahryar.png:
    • It needs a fair-use reduction in size.
    • The "purpose" in the fair-use rationale needs to be beefed up a little bit; you need to explain explicitly how the image contributes to the understanding of the article, more than "to illustrate".
  • There is a WP:LAYOUT issue with the placement of File:SecretRings gameplay.jpg, as it is not desirable to sandwich text between the infobox and an image. However, I understand how that is hard to avoid (I still have issues with that for Ninja Gaiden (NES) FWIW).
  • I would recommend merging the soundtrack article Seven Rings in Hand: Sonic and the Secret Rings Original Sound Track into this article. I mean all you have is several full paragraphs of prose there plus the tracklisting itself. I do not think that would cause any problems with undue weight or article size at all and would make the article more "complete".

Otherwise, the writing is not bad at all, and the paragraphing is pretty good, except for the very last two at the end, which I combined. –MuZemike 01:33, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for reviewing. I'll do the rest of these later today, maybe, or soon anyway. Tezero (talk) 12:06, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
