Platform game edit

I've made fixing this entry up a pet project of mine over the last week or so. I really found much of the old entry to be pretty poorly researched and full of many inaccuracies based on common misconceptions, or glaring omissions (no attempt to mention the first 3D platformer was especially bad). I have put a lot of work into making this the most complete and accurate history of the genre I could.

This meant that I scrapped most of what was there and went largely from scratch. I completely reorganized the article and expanded its size greatly. So I'd really like it to be reviewed to help determine what needs further refinement.

I took a different approach to determining firsts than most comparable articles. In my research I found that claims that something was the first of its kind rarely coincided with the earliest references to things of that kind. For example, I cited a reference that Jump Bug is a scrolling platformer, and that it was released in 1981. However, all references elsewhere to "first scrolling platformer" cite later, higher profile games. In many cases it's difficult to determine with absolute certainty what these firsts really are, an I reflected that in the language I used, but they are certainly much better than the more common misconceptions.

I also added a section on some popular sub-genres, and cleaned up the list of significant games list a bit. The old article is here [1] Appreciate any help or input. User: Frogacuda

Good job on the work you've done on the article. If there's one thing that really needs to happen before you could start thinking about nominating this as a good article, it would be references! Take a look at some of the featured articles to see how they've done them.
