Consolidation of participants list causes controversy

By O

On the second of September, a proposal to merge all child projects of USRD was formed. Nobody responded to that thread, and implementation began. However, after all merges were done, the Maryland project's list was reverted.

Another thread regarding the merge was started with a bit of controversy from users who did not know about the merge. The discussion contained some key points, such as USRD claiming ownership of the child projects, and that there wasn't any urgent logic in it. Two different proposals were formed, which were to transclude the state lists into USRD's list, and to just revert the entire thing. Opposition mounted for the first proposal, and a second one was drawn up. Nobody really responded to the second proposal.

Featured member: Holderca1

Holderca1 has been a Wikipedia editor since July 29, 2005. He was very influential in writing and maintaining articles for both Florida state roads and Texas state highways as well as Interstate and U.S. routes. He created a template that made it easier to add junction information to infobox road and exit lists - which has been widely used since. Outside of USRD, he has written articles and participated in the projects for tropical cyclones and U.S. Major League Baseball.

Thank you, Holderca1, for all of your hard work!

State and national updates

WP:USH

Thanks to efforts by TwinsMetsFan and JohnnyAlbert10, all 1 and 2 digit USH articles are at project standards. However, the 3 digit articles still need to be restructured.

WP:NJSCR

New Jersey Route 55 is currently a GA nominee. However, County Route 622 (Middlesex County, New Jersey) failed its GA nomination after a record-breaking 34 days.

WP:PASH

To reduce the number of permanent stub articles, a new minor routes list was created by User:JohnnyAlbert10 including state routes 102, 110, 121, 127, 179, 424, 474, 505, 531, 618 and 955.

WP:NYSR

A new minor routes list was created by User:TwinsMetsFan including state routes 280, 329, 409, 419, and 421.

WP:NYCR

On September 30, 2007, WP:NYCR was merged into its parent, WP:NYSR. This was due to the recent or proposed merges, redirects, and deletions of nearly all of its articles. The remaining notable routes will be handled by WP:NYSR.

WP:TXSH

Wurzbach Parkway was featured for WP:DYK on 25 September 2007.

Portal structure change

By O

From the time the last issue was distributed, some controversy regarding the portal erupted. First came the moving of the page itself to a new title, Portal:North American Roads. It was quickly reverted, and discussion on the talk page began. Everyone who participated in that discussion pointed out pros and cons about the status quo and the new change, and they were listed. Consensus then rambled on, and finally agreed that the status quo was the best option, and then a new parent portal (unfinished), Portal:Roads was created.

Discussions regarding notability

By Rschen7754

Recently, the WP:USRD/NT notability guideline has been created. The major change declares that the majority of county route articles (with the exception of state-wide systems like California's) are to be redirected or deleted. Subsequent application of the guideline at WT:NYSR has resulted in the redirection of many New York County Route articles. Today, WP:NYCR was redirected to WP:NYSR to reflect this change.
