Volume 1, Issue 1	10 February 2007	About the Newsletter
Introduction With WP:NYSR and WP:NJSCR running monthly newsletters, it was decided on WT:USRD to start a global WikiProject U.S. Roads Newsletter. This could prove to be a very effective medium of communication between the members of the groups, and with increased communication comes the possibility of increased production. This newsletter will be published every two weeks on Saturdays. All members are welcome to contribute. This edition is short because it was composed within 96 hours in response to an urgent situation. However, the next edition will be more full-fledged.
Notability of state highways is challenged By Rschen7754 & Vishwin60 Three AFD nominations this week have become crucial towards the welfare of the over 5400+ U.S. road articles. With the accidental destruction of a long-standing precedent at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Precedents regarding the notability of state highways, some have decided to challenge the existence of the 5400+ U.S. road articles. The debates began when County Route 66 (Dutchess County, New York) and Minnesota State Highway 127 were nominated for deletion. The precedent of the notability of highway articles was mentioned, but some refused it, challenging the justice of this precedent. Furthermore, some questioned the legitimacy of having all of the state highway articles on Wikipedia. After Pennsylvania Route 999 was mentioned in a debate, a user nominated it for deletion, possibly to serve as a WP:POINT. At this stage, the same user stated an intention to delete all 5400+ road articles. When California State Route 37 was mentioned, it was nominated for deletion by this same user, ignoring the fact that the article is a good article. This last nomination was quickly closed as a speedy keep. Currently, the AFDs are showing a consensus to keep. However, dangerous precedents could be set here that could result in drastic catastrophe for the U.S. Roads articles. Your voice is needed to ensure that our highway articles are not deleted and can be maintained for the benefit of all. Project News Recently, state highway projects for Indiana, Nevada, and South Carolina were created. General reminders Interstate 295 (Delaware-New Jersey) became a Good Article. However, Ridge Route was de-featured when a featured article review was ignored. Over 1000 articles need to be assessed; see WP:USRD/A for information. Other states need to be added to the system as well. Anyone interested in Tennessee highways is encouraged to start a state highway WikiProject for Tennessee.
Important deletion debates In regards to the new Infoboxes and Navigation subproject, the following have been sent to WP:TFD for being obsolete: Infobox CA Route and pieces Infobox CA Business Route
Featured subproject In the next edition, a subproject will be featured. Nominations will be taken at WP:USRD/NEWS. Projects cannot be nominated more than once a year.
Featured member This section will be full-fledged in the next edition. However, nominations are being taken currently at WP:USRD/NEWS for the next featured member. The editors cannot be nominated at this time, and you may only be nominated once a year.
