  • Wine Project Article Assessment guide kicks into gear

As of Feb 18th, the Wine Project has 801 articles tagged and 70 of them assessed. On the Wine Project main page, nominations are being taken on which articles should be deemed of Top Level Importance for the project. These would be the articles that, as a project, we would like to make a priority to dedicate our editors and resources towards improving. Any wine related article can be nominated for consideration. Just include the article in the list on the main page. If 5 Wine Project members endorse it, then it will be elevated and noted on the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Wine/Top Level Importance.

This essay, first created on Jan 30th, 2007, is still in its infancy and all Wine Project members are encouraged to give their input. The aim of the essay is to define guidelines that deal with wine related articles and the particular application of Wikipedia's WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, WP:RS and WP:V policies. This includes topics like including notable vintages and tasting notes. The essay also delves into Notability of wineries and references the guideline WP:CORP.

There is a discussion going on the Talk:Judgment of Paris (disambiguation) page about moving the page to the spot filled by the redirect Judgment of Paris.

In an early application of winery notability in WP:WINEGUIDE, Goosecross Cellars was put up for AfD as being a non-notable winery.

Bordeaux Sub-project

  • Call for Bordeaux label images

Château Haut-Batailley 2000

Hello all. I'm working towards standardizing the pages for the 61 Medoc Châteaux in the 1855 Crus Classés list.

Some pages currently have little content (recently created) while others are much more developed. My immediate sub-sub-project is to get an image of the grand vin label onto each page and am calling for help doing so. If you have a label you can provide please upload!!

Preferably, the label should be flat. The placement (for now) should be as follows

(wikilink)Image:HAUTBAT.JPG|thumb|right|250px|Château Haut-Batailley 2000(/wikilink)

See Château Haut-Batailley for an example.

At some point we may want an infobox for each page, but getting labels there now is a good start. Again, if anyone has an available image please upload and insert to the relevant page. Ask me if you need assistance or have other questions. Thanks! Steve.Moulding 15:03, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What got you first interested in wine?

  • I loved drinking wine at special dinners when I was a kid. I really enjoyed it and started drinking wine and reading about wine.

What brought you to Wikipedia?

  • Whenever I did a search I always found Wikipedia very helpful. So, I started fixing typos and I soon found myself creating new articles. It's kind of an addiction now.

What type of wine articles do you enjoy editing?

  • I haven't started but will soon.

What non-wine related activities do you also enjoy on Wikipedia?

  • Editing TV and Literature articles.

What is your favorite wine? Least favorite wine?

  • Fave: Cabernet or Carmenère for red and Sauvignon Blanc for white; least fave Merlot and Chardonnay

What is the most under appreciated wine, in your opinion?

  • Carmenère
Be sure to hide the ice cube tray when Charleenmerced is visiting :)

Have you ever had a "Wine snobbish" moment? If so, tell us about it.

  • My own - when a friend was about to add ice to her wine I nearly screamed bloody murder and proceeded to tell her that she must never add ice to wine. Also, when people serve red wine chilled.

What area of the wine project would you like more editors to focus on? '

  • Carmenère

Wine Improvement Drive - Carmenère

edit

In honor of this week's Wiki Winos, we will share some love on the under appreciated grape Carmenère whose article is essentially a stub. In the next two weeks, lets work on improving this article up to GA quality. Some major needs include images like the grape or a glass of the wine.

Grab a bottle

edit

Sometime during the next two weeks, Wine Project members are encouraged to grab a bottle of Carmenère to enjoy and share your thoughts about it on the talk page of this edition of the newsletter. This will also present the perfect opportunity to take a picture of this wine in the glass for use in the article. If we have several photos submitted, we will take a vote among project members for which one is the best. Be sure to properly license and tag any photos that you upload with {{GFDL-no-disclaimers}} .
