Schools in Hamilton, Ontario? edit

There are currently 4-5 articles on schools in Hamilton, Ontario...i was thinking maybe there could be a category created for it? if so...do i have to get it "approved" by anyone or do i go ahead and create the category? zeChinaman 16:49, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add school in "High schools in Toronto" edit

I would like to propose adding David and Mary Thomson C.I. to the school list under "D". David and Mary Thomson C.I. is already one of Wikipedia's pages. David and Mary Thomson C.I. I would like to propse adding Riverdale C.I. to the school list under "R".

I would like to propose adding Vaughan Road Academy to the school list under "V". Vaughan Road Academy has been an International Baccalaureate World School since July 1998. It offers the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme. The school is state funded.

I would like to propose adding George S. Henry Academy to the school list under "G". The school is state funded.

Add school in "Private Schools in Vancouver" edit

I would like to propose adding Crofton House School to the school list under "C". It is already of of Wikipeida's pages. Crofton House School

Language categories edit

I propose the new category Category:French language schools in Alberta be used consistently in all provinces for all minority languages .

For example:

This would be an extra category, so all categories for all articles would stay exactly the same. This would be just one more place to find a school. This would only be for schools where the main language of instruction is a minority language in the province (or territory). --Rob 18:22, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have now created Category:French language schools in Canada outside Quebec with the sub-cats of Category:French language schools in Ontario and Category:French language schools in Alberta. As said above, these are extra categories, and schools should still all be found in their existing categories. --Rob 16:20, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First nations edit

I propose :

This would be for any school where over half the population is native. I'm not sure about terminology on this. I would like to handle all groups (e.g. natives,inuit,metis). An example of such a school, would be Boyle Street Education Centre, which is 90% native, and teaches Cree. Currently, I'm not sure of any category or list, that serves this purpose. --Rob 18:22, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Defunct schools in Ottawa edit

I propose that high schools in Ottawa that have closed be organized into a new category, named:

This category would be intended for the articles on schools in Ottawa that have closed, including J. S. Woodsworth Secondary School, Laurentian High School, etc. --Matt 21:34, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sounds like a good idea, but are there that many defunct school articles? For instance, why not Category:Defunct schools in Ontario. But I would personally support either approach (city or province). --Rob 22:07, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]


School Board edit

Why not break it down into school boards as opposed to cities?--J2000ca 06:52, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many people aren't familiar with the boundries of school boards. Also, with linguistic and religous based boards, there may be two to four boards covering overlapping area, and it wouldn't make sense to split schools in the same spot, into separate categories. Also, personally, whenever possible, I think we should probably stick to province level categories, except in the case of the largest cities. --Rob 06:41, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Prehaps, however schools are broken up into school boards and it's much more clean when divided up like that. People are also unaware of where York region starts and Toronto ends. School boards are much easier to research and cite.--J2000ca 04:15, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nova Scotia School Boards edit

There are exactly seven eight school boards in Nova Scotia (List of Nova Scotia schools#Nova Scotia school boards). That's probably too few for a category; I am going to categorize them with Category:School districts in Canada. --Usgnus 03:09, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the less populated provinces and territories might have fewer than seven. Do we want 13 "School districts of XXX" categories, even if the category might only have one or two articles? --Usgnus 04:32, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I would support one-category-per-province, even if some have just a couple entries. On the flip side, I prefer to only have one category in a province, where the size is very large. I find this makes finding the appropriate category simple and consistant. But this is all just my opinion, and I have no plans to change what you've done. I just like to keep education/school categories at the provincial (or territory) level, in general, when possible. It's logical to me, because eduction is obviously a provincial matter, and districts are constructs of a province, and one always knows the province of a district one is looking for. --Rob 06:04, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
