Goals edit

  • To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles relating to dentistry and oral health
  • To improve the coverage of dental related articles by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles
  • To serve as a forum for interested editors to discuss issues related to dentistry and oral health
  • To provide evidence based, accurate, readable articles relating to dentistry and oral health
  • To demonstrate inter-relations of oral health, systemic health and public health

Generally, all articles related to the field of dentistry falls under the scope of this project. It is understood that certain topics may also belong to other related fields, such as medicine, pathology, physiology, oncology, etc. This project will continually work with other projects to cover shared topics. The Manual of Style concerning medicine is a guideline that should be used as a reference for relevant articles.
Primary areas related to dentistry include:
  • Official and unofficial specialties of dentistry, such as prosthodontics and esthetic dentistry
  • Dental equipment, such as handpieces, hand instruments, and office supplies
  • Dental anatomy, such as nerves, blood supply, and muscles in the head and neck
  • Dental diseases, such as periodontal diseases and cysts/tumors of the head and neck
  • Dental products, such as toothpastes and toothbrushes
  • Practices of dentistry throughout the world, including dental education and associations in various countries
  • Dental treatments and preventative measures, such as water fluoridation, restorative options, and surgery
