Description edit

This would be a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of legislation, caselaw, and legal issues in the Republic of India.

Why is this necessary?

Present coverage of these issues is scarce as well as inaccurate. For example, various articles have high assessments by existing projects, but those assessments were made as far back as 2006 and contain large amounts of inaccurate information that violate guidelines. Additionally, editing Indian legal content is significantly harder than with other matters as the only reliable sources are books and authoritative texts. Unlike other jurisdictions such as the United States, it is largely necessary in India that you have to pay for access to legal resources that are readable and searchable. In addition, the vast majority of online sources on this topic, websites such as iPleaders, legalservicesindia, and IndianKanoon sometimes provide unreliable content written by individuals with minimal to no editorial oversight.

Additionally, an enormous amount of content does not have Wikipedia pages. Almost no Supreme Court cases are covered, and if they are covered, that coverage is paltry and unprofessional, and often inaccurate. The fact that the largest English-speaking jurisdiction in the world does not have a reliable online encyclopaedic source is shameful, and it is something worth fixing.

Please invite these and any other similar groups to join the discussion about this proposal. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory to find similar WikiProjects.
Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
I have attempted to start a discussion on talk pages there as far as creating a shared taskforce between WikiProjectLaw or WikiProject India, or creating a separate legal workgroup. This has been unsuccessful thus far, primarily because legal reporting in India is limited, paywalled, and difficult to access. Additionally, I don't think there are a lot of Indian lawyers or legal academics on here. If WikiProject Law or WikiProject India is willing to make this a task force, I will happily abandon the proposal and work with them instead to create shared guidelines, templates, and standards, as well as improving existing content as well as adding new Articles.
