Wikipedia:WikiProject Big Brother/Structure of series or season articles

A note: Articles for a series of Big Brother should not be created until there are enough independent reliable sources or there are promos on television. This, and only this, should be taken as a sign that Big Brother will be happening, and is good enough a reason to create an article. Anything else, unless it can be confirmed by the network itself or network executives, is not enough reason to create a series' article, and is most likely speculation. Another reason not to create an article so early is that there will most likely be no information in it. Lack of information, or information that's already in other articles, is pointless. Any articles about a Big Brother series that has not been confirmed should be nominated for deletion via WP:AFD. If there are only a few pieces of information about a series and it is still not enough or it is still simply too soon to create a standalone article information can be added to the main country article.

Infobox edit

 • Articles that are about a Big Brother season should include . This template takes the already existing Infobox television season and combines it with a nested section specifically for reality television seasons. It allows a place where quick, important information about the season can be read. See this discussion about the implementation of this new infobox and the retirement and replacement of the old infoboxes.

All usage instructions are on individual template pages.

Naming articles edit

Articles about individual Big Brother seasons/series should be disambiguated as Big Brother (country series/season number) or Big Brother number (country season):

Formatting of Big Brother-sensitive words edit

 • The word Day, when referring to a specific day by its number, should always be capitalised.
 • Any Day numbers or eviction figures should be written in numeric form.
 • On Big Brother Australia and Big Brother UK articles, the word House, when referring to a Big Brother House, should always be capitalised.
For Big Brother Australia articles edit
 • Any references to the three-point twist should be written as Three Point Twist, and should be italicised at all times. Whenever it's seen to be appropriate, it should also link to Big Brother Australia#Nominations.
 • The word Intruder should always be written as a proper noun, and should be written as Intruder(s) or Intruder housemate(s). It should link to Big Brother Australia#Intruders whenever deemed appropriate.
 • The word Insider should be written as a proper noun, and should be written as Insider(s) or Insider housemate(s).
 • UpLate should be spelt like this, as a single word with the U and the L capitalised. It should always be italicised, and should almost always link to Big Brother Australia#UpLate.
 • Any references to Network Ten should be written as Network Ten; not Channel 10, The Ten Network, or Ten.
For Big Brother U.S. articles edit
 • Head of Household, when written in abbreviated form, should be written as HoH, and be italicized when not used in a normal sentence.
 • Power of Veto, when written in abbreviated form, should be written as PoV.
 • HouseGuest
For Big Brother Africa articles edit
 • Head of House, when written in abbreviated form, should be written as HOH, and be italicized when not used in a normal sentence.
For Pinoy Big Brother articles edit
 • Two-in-One Housemate, when written in abbreviated form, should be written as 2-in-1, and written as 2-in-1 (letter) in the HM infobox where the letter indicates the pair considered (see Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 2 for an example).
 • Head of Household, when written in abbreviated form, should be written as HOH, and be italicized when not used in a normal sentence. By extension, Team of Household should follow the same rules but instead it is TOH.
 • BBN (or public nomination), should be written as BBN, and be italicized when not used in a normal sentence.

Section headings edit

First and foremost each series article should follow the given advice for separate sections given at MOS:TV. Outside of that they should include the sections below on an as needed basis.

Housemates or Houseguests edit

Each series article should have a level two section named Housemates or Houseguests, and every housemate that did, or was meant to, participate in the game, should be listed afterwards. Depending on the series this information may be better presented with level 3 headings as done here or as a table as done Celebrity Big Brother 2 (American season)#Houseguests Whenever the official cast reveal date is announced, one of the following notes should be included in the section and remain there until the cast is officially revealed.

<!--According to the [insert reliable source], the official names of the housemates will be revealed on [insert date]. Any source that claims to have this information beforehand may just be speculation and should therefore NOT be added to the article. This note must remain until the official cast reveal on the scheduled date.-->

<!--According to the [insert reliable source], the official names of the houseguests will be revealed on [insert date]. Any source that claims to have this information beforehand may just be speculation and should therefore NOT be added to the article. This note must remain until the official cast reveal on the scheduled date.-->

Information to include in the section or table includes:

 • Full name
 • Any nicknames or aliases
 • Date of birth and/or the person's age
 • Where they're from. Sections in Big Brother Australia and Big Brother America articles should not use abbreviated state codes, but should instead use full state names. Where they're from should be written as Suburb, State; or when necessary, Suburb, State.
 • The day they entered the house
 • How and when they left
 • Any birthdays the housemate had while in the House, including the real date, how old the housemate was on the day, the party theme, and any major events that occurred as a result of the birthday.
 • Any major events that occurred in the house; that were due to, or involved, the said housemate.

Any information relating to housemates that hasn't or doesn't change because of their presence in the Big Brother House should be written in present tense.

Weekly summary and highlights edit

Weekly summary and highlights sections should be written in past tense. They should be short; not a detailed description of every event that occurred during the season. It is recommended that a Weekly summary section be split into one-week sections using level 3 or level 4 headings, with regular housemate evictions the last thing in each section. In general, this information be presented in table format using Episode table and Episode list. The information can also be presented in prose format as done here or in a differently formatted table as done here. There is no agreement upon what should be included in a Chronology section, but the following seems to be acceptable:

 • Who is up for eviction, before and after any twists, and what that twist is.
 • Who is evicted or who enters the game; the day number; real date; and the percentage of votes, or merged votes, that they received; or how/what allowed them to reenter.
 • Tasks, but not too much information. How much of the budget is wagered on the task, what the task involved, any major events that occurred as a result of the task, and whether or not the housemates passed or failed the task is enough information.
 • Birthdays: The person whose birthday it is, real date, how old they were on that birthday, the party theme, and any major events that occurred as a result of the birthday is enough information.
 • Strikes and warnings.
 • Competitions: A brief description of what the competition was and who its winners and/or winners were as well as what they received as a result of the competition.
For Big Brother Australia articles edit
 • The theme of any Friday Night Live events, who won, who they took to the Rewards Room, which box they chose, and what was in each of the boxes.
 • For nominations: the eviction line-up before the Three Point Twist is used, who the Three Point Twist is used on, and the final eviction line-up.
For Big Brother U.S. articles edit
 • The term HouseGuests is used instead of the term Housemates.
 • Who gets the Power of Veto.
 • Who wins Head of Household.
For Pinoy Big Brother articles edit
 • The table for weekly tasks shall include number, day given, description, and result in a table.
 • The following colors shall likewise be used for the result:
"Pending": #C0C0C0
"Passed": #99FF66
"Failed": #FF6666
 • In a two-house setup, the articles must use the colors that distinguish the two houses used in the broadcast.

Housemates summary table edit

A small table can be made that needs only have two rows, and if implemented effectively, can provide information easily. These tables should be put on the article in their own level two section, and should look something like this:

Nominations table and Voting history table edit

Nominations tables and Voting history tables, should be included as part of the main article page These tables should be adapted to the country and series that they will be used for. Housemates should be listed in order of leaving, with the first housemate to leave at the bottom of the table. For current series, the housemates that are still in the House should be listed above the evicted housemates in alphabetical order.

Each cell of the table should contain the names of the people nominated by each housemate each week. This should be in the order that they nominated them or, if this is unavailable, in alphabetical order. At the bottom of the table, a row is added for the housemates who are up for eviction and for the housemates who were evicted that week. If housemates ever leave the show for other reasons, a row can be added to list their names. Some of the cells used should be shaded in colour - these colours can be obtained from looking at the examples listed below and from other tables.

Notes
 1. ^ a b This week was a double eviction week. Following the first eviction, the remaining HouseGuests played a week's worth of games, including Head of Household and veto competitions, and nomination, veto and eviction ceremonies, during the live show, culminating in a second eviction for the week.
 2. ^ Megan chose to quit the game. Since she had been nominated, Cody chose Alex as his replacement nominee.
 3. ^ a b Due to Paul's temptation, Ramses was cursed with having to name himself as a third nominee within the first three weeks. He chose to nominate himself during week 2.
 4. ^ a b c d e This HouseGuest was automatically nominated for eviction after losing a temptation competition.
 5. ^ a b c Since Paul accepted the Pendant of Protection, he had immunity for the next three evictions. Paul chose to keep his immunity a secret until Cody attempted to nominate him for eviction at the veto ceremony in week 1.
 6. ^ Josh was awarded immunity for the week after retrieving the golden apple in the Head of Household competition.
 7. ^ a b As the vote was tied, the Head of Household cast the tie-breaker vote.
 8. ^ As Head of Household, Josh chose to evict Christmas.
 9. ^ a b c d e f g h i When Paul entered the game, he was granted immunity from the first eviction. He had to grant immunity to eight other HouseGuests; he chose Kevin, Raven, Dominique, Mark, Jason, Jessica, Ramses, and Elena.
 10. ^ Mark earned the power to "save a friend," which allowed him to grant immunity to another HouseGuest; he chose Paul.
 11. ^ a b c This player received immunity by winning a temptation competition.
 12. ^ a b Cameron, Jillian, Cody, and Dominique competed for an opportunity to re-enter the game. The four faced off in a duels. Cody won the elimination duels and had to face off against a challenger selected by the HouseGuests still in the game in order to win re-entry to the house.   Paul was voted the challenger in a 11–1 vote. Cody won the final duel and re-entered the house.
 13. ^ On day 44, Jessica used the halting hex, which cancelled this week's eviction.
 14. ^ Matt was given a penalty vote for eviction after eating normal food while on a mandatory have-not diet.

The table below shows examples of additional cells that may be needed

Example Meaning Background colour Notes
If a housemate is in the House at the time of nominations, the cell should describe who they nominated or why they did not nominate.

Some more complex nominations twists use separate colours to describe what happens. These may vary between articles.

Arranging housemates in order edit

Once the names of housemates are announced, both tables above may be added, but they must list the housemates in alphabetical order by first name. Throughout a season, the first table will remain as it is, while the order in the second will change based on when each housemate is banished, evicted, walked, or expelled/ejected. Should multiple housemates leave the house on the same day, time will be used to determine the chronological order. In rare instances where several housemates leave almost simultaneously, their first names will be arranged alphabetically unless there exists an official order (i.e. juror numbers) from production.

Image usage edit

Images from websites, especially random ones, should not be used. They will most likely be removed from an article and will be tagged as orphaned fair use images or deleted immediately. Users that repeatedly upload nonfree images that can not be used under fair use risk being blocked from editing Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Example requests for permission to see how you may ask a copyright holder to release their image (s) under a free license, which is usable on Wikipedia. While a TV network would never release such a photo (don't even try), a private person with a candid photo of a contestant (outside the show), may opt to.

Criticism or controversies edit

Any criticism or controversies should be in its own section, and every claim needs to be backed up with references from a reputable source.

Categories edit

Stub tag edit

Stubs should have a tv-prog-stub template at the bottom of the article.
