Wondering what i need specifically to improve this article....do i need more sources, or do i need to prove that the new lead singer of a major American band is noteworthy? New to doing this, and need guidance.

thanks Hoovbacca (talk) 00:22, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hoovbacca. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. Our apologies for the delay in response. "Needing more sources" and "needing to prove someone is noteworthy" are going to be pretty much the same thing here. Right now, you haven't shown that the subject is "notable" in the sense that Wikipedia uses the word. To do that, you need to find sources that are reliable and independent of the subject, and that discuss the subject in depth. The band's Facebook page and web site are not going to be useful in making that demonstration. I also have my doubts about the NashvilleThreeSixty blog because, although it does provide a substantive biography of the subject, it was almost certainly derived from the subject himself (I saw nothing else on that site to suggest that its author engages in independent research when writing her blogs). So, that's what's needed here -- not only more sources, but sources of the type that will demonstrate that the subject meets our notion of "notability". But there is a more basic problem here -- we generally will not find someone "notable" simply because they have a relationship with a notable topic (i.e., there is no "inherited notability"). There is no doubt that Chicago (band) is notable, but this in itself does not imply that every musician in the band is independently notable. For more detail on this point, see the final paragraph of WP:MUSICBIO. If you are unable to find reliable sources that document notability for Coffey that is independent of his membership in the band, the best that can be done is to create a "re-direct", meaning that a person who types Coffey's name into the Search box will be taken automatically to Chicago (band). I hope this response has been helpful. NewYorkActuary (talk) 19:40, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote an article about a company but it was refused. They said i didnt have adequate references and that it was ambiguous advertising. There is little informaton about the company online. It is a startup. So finding references is extremely difficult, actually there are none. How can i handle this? and about the ambiguous advertising what does that mean?

Here is the post below. Please help me understand where i went wrong.

User:Edna Maritim - Your draft was tagged as UNambiguous advertising. That is, it was and is advertising rather than a neutral description of the company. (If what you just posted above is what you previously submitted, then I agree that is advertising rather than a neutral description of the company.) If there are no third-party references available about the company because the company is new, then it is too soon and the company simply isn't notable. Many editors think that getting a Wikipedia article about a company or organization is a good way to get it started and to bring it to the attention of the public. That isn't what Wikipedia is for. Wikipedia isn't a vehicle to bring a new company or organization to the attention of the public. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:37, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear help desk, Is it normal to have an article under review since 2016 Dec 26? My response to the previous reviewers: see article talk page

Toux (talk) 12:46, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To give an overly short answer to your question, yes. Unfortunately, the review process is backlogged, and waiting several weeks for a re-review is not unusual. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:31, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quint Buchholz is a notable person. There is an article about him on the German Wikipedia. He is also referenced in two other English Wikipedia articles, including "Mildred L. Batchelder Award" and "Talk Amongst Trees". He received two Batchelder Awards (1998, 2000). He has also been listed author of one of the Best Illustrated Children's Books 1999 by the New York Times and has been reviewed for the NY Times by the critic Perry Nodelman. Another book, Nero Corleone by Elke Heidenreich and illustrated by Quint Buchholz was also recommended by the NY Times. Numerous websites have reviewed books written by him and illustrated by him (e.g. https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/quint-buchholz/the-collector-of-moments/; http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-374-31520-7).

My article was denied, it says I need to insert proof that the person I'm writing about is a notable person. But where in my article should I insert the sources that prove that? Quibu (talk) 16:08, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Quibu - You need to put footnotes in the draft. See Referencing for beginners on how to do this. (Some of the weblinks could serve as some of the footnotes.) Also, see Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information on the length of the lists, and please trim them. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:29, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, are you Quint Buchholz? If so, please read the autobiography guideline. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:39, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am new. How do I make the blue print for words that are in another Wikipedia Article? I have a new article with lots of possibilities.DavidPatBoyle (talk) 20:15, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, David. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. Improving your draft will call for a lot more than simply adding "blue links" (although that is certainly one of the things that needs to done). It also needs to have its material divided into appropriate sections and the source material needs to be linked (via footnotes) with the material in the text. You might want to read our WP:Tutorial, which is a step-by-step guide that will familiarise you with all of these basic "Wiki-skills". But on an equally important note, the subject of your submission already exists here on Wikipedia, under the title Marsh-Warthen House. However, your new material would constitute a considerable expansion of the existing article, so you are welcome to continue working on your material here in "Draft space", where I and other reviewers can check on your progress in adding the "blue links", sections, etc. In a few moments, I'll be re-naming your draft to conform with the title of the existing article, so that we don't inadvertently get two articles on the same subject. If we can be of any further help, feel to ask. NewYorkActuary (talk) 21:46, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
