Andhra Pradesh Districts update -2023 initiative is being implemented in an agile manner. This page documents the report of the first sprint done during the second half of April 2023. The metrics were compiled for the whole month, as the sprints are convenient to run on a monthly basis, as some of the APIs provide useful metrics on a monthly basis. It may be noted that work was done alone by User:Arjunaraoc in the first half of the month. Data analysis shows that only two users contributed to the initiative as per the proposal out of 24 who worked on the project articles.

Inference

Coverage has included all the districts in this month. Based on the analysis, Tirupati district had a high count of overall editors at 18. If we exclude IP editors, the unique human editors is 5. Additonal IP users are because of the change in IP address of the contributor during the course of month. NTR district article quality was changed to Start class from stub class, as it has been expanded. Though 24 human editors contributed to the effort, there were only two who contributed valid content as per the proposal.

Report summary

The project page was initiated on 14 April 2023 as a user subpage after 10 days of working alone on the improvements. There was lot of vandalism of the improvements by anonymous editor(s), which was reverted. On 26 April 2023, the page was moved as subpage of WikiProject Andhra Pradesh. Feedback and participation was invited via talk page notice on Talk:Andhra Pradesh on the same date. Over the course of next week, active content contributors of the past year were identified and were alerted about this initiative. Only one editor showed interest and joined the project. Initially 13 pages were improved with the limited scope of cleaning up and reformatting administrative divisions section and adding OSM based district, mandals of district maps. Based on the feedback and experience from the initial work, the scope of work was expanded to include "standardized structure" and revamp of the whole article.

At the end of April 2023, based on self assessment, 75% of proposed revamp was completed for 4 pages, 50% for another 4 pages and 25% for 6 pages. See the parent page for the latest status. Based on this, the progress in the project is 25%. Independent check of the changes for 75% updated pages, which will make the change 100% could not be done, as the editor participation is too low.

The potential reasons for the poor response is that the task is complex and needs dedicated effort to read, understand the existing article, the new resources available and to make updates to the existing and other pages, after thoughtful application of mind. Even if a person could dedicate an hour a week, it can help in collaboration and also provide opportunities for learning.

As part of this initiative, quarry queries for current and previous month metrics, Jupyter notebook for report generation were developed. The links are provided in the parent page. These are expected to reduce the project management and report generation efforts required to sustain this project over multiple sprints.

Lessons learnt

• OSM maps can be added to infobox with image_map1 parameter, thanks to anonymous IP for this learning.
• Interactive maps from Overpass-turbo generate a long url which includes the query. As this url use is not functional with {{overpass-turbo}}, direct external link is being provided for now in the External links section.
• Separate gallery section should not be used on en.wikipedia.org, such sections can be used as subsection, when more images need to be displayed to support the textual content.
• WP India assessment team appears defunct, so submitted a sample page for Wikipedia:Peer review.
