Wikipedia:Triple Crown/Steeplechase 2013

An actual steeplechase race from London, 1908

The Triple Crown's Steeplechase is an annual event that encourages the idea of varied accomplishments to editing. During one month, users participate by getting content promoted among the different types of Wikipedia's featured content processes and those with the highest number on at least 3 of the different types of featured content are declared steeplechase champions.

A steeplechase was originally a type of horse race where competitors hurried to the nearest church steeple, and developed into a formal race across an obstacle course of various challenges. Modern steeplechases can be either foot races or equestrian events.

The 2013 Steeplechase Event will run from 1 November 2013 until 30 November 2013. All featured content nominated from 1 October 2013 until 20 November 2013 is eligible, while all featured content promoted from 1 November 2013 until 15 December 2013 is eligible. All users are encouraged to participate in the event. No good articles or Did you know? entries are required for the steeplechase. Just create as many different kinds of featured content as possible.

To be considered for the steeplechase, you must be a major contributor to all of the content you submit. For featured pictures, a nominator who is not the original uploader may qualify if they did other significant work that was needed for the picture to become featured, such as image cleanup or description research. For featured topics, such topics must include at least 50% of their entries as featured articles or lists and the main article must be featured. Two types of awards will be given:

  • Main awards to the users with the most featured content promoted and the highest points accumulated within the Steeplechase
  • General awards to users who accomplish several milestones within the Steeplechase

Rules edit

The Steeplechase uses a point-based score system to determine the winners and the giveaway of the awards. Two champion awards will be given: one to the user with the highest number of featured pieces and one to the user with the highest score. To be eligible for a champion award, a user must have at least one promoted piece on two of the five types of featured content. Users with promoted content in only one type won't count neither for the awards nor for the leaderboard.
