Robin van Persie, a Dutch retired professional footballer, scored 50 international goals between 2005 and 2015 in 102 appearances for the Netherlands national football team. He is the team's all-time top goalscorer, and one of the most-capped Dutch internationals. Van Persie made his debut for the Netherlands coming on the field as a substitute for Ruud van Nistelrooy in a 2–0 victory over Romania on 5 June 2005. He scored his first goal three days later against Finland during a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Twenty of his goals were scored in the Amsterdam Arena, and he scored two hat-tricks for his country. Van Persie played at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 UEFA European Championships and at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. He helped his team reach the final of the 2010 World Cup, in which his team lost to Spain. Van Persie made his final appearance for the Netherlands in a 4–0 defeat against France in August 2017.
