Rolling Stone's readers polls

edit

I've always wondered how readers can vote in the magazine. The ranking can concern individual musicians, bands or albums, it doesn't matter. And the magazine that has a list of names, or the vote is free; in the sense you can vote up to a fixed maximum, top 10, 25 etc.? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.41.100.198 (talk) 00:42, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We are sorry to disappoint you, but Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not social media. The chances of someone who knows your classmate reading this page are somewhat remote. The best policy would be to contact other classmates on social media. Dbfirs 16:14, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And probably remove the name from here. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:30, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And avoid jumping straight to your wedding day when you aren't currently speaking to one another. 135.84.167.41 (talk) 18:28, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You could join LinkedIn and ask to connect with her. —Tamfang (talk) 07:44, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have redacted the personal information above. Please do not reinstate it here or elsewhere on Wikipedia. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 11:53, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is this kind of request unusual enough to warrant posting this on Wikipedia:Unusual requests? Eliyohub (talk) 17:24, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Given that she's of Chinese decent, it might be worth taking a look on Chinese social media sites such as WeChat. Obviously, such sites are in Chinese, not English, so if you don't read Chinese, you may need someone to help you. Eliyohub (talk) 17:55, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

China question

edit

Dear Sir or Madam,

Sorry to bother you but I am simply curious about a page that has been deleted. Of course I don't expect that you would've had it archived but just in case I should want to know what the 'January 19th incident' under 'China in 2010' is. I do not really require this information, however I have stumbled it on occasion and cannot find any other references to this incident elsewhere on the internet.

I would appreciate it if you could find it if possible.

Sincerely, S kustra. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:1B10:F900:ED43:EC56:A2DA:50D0 (talk) 18:51, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Only administrators here can view deleted articles (and I am not an admin), but I'm guessing it's referring to a riot in Yangshan County. See here for example (it's not all in French, scroll down a bit, it has reports on the incident from AFP, Tibetan Review, China Daily). ---Sluzzelin talk 20:00, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The incident was the one described at the following sources: [1][2]. The page was deleted as "not notable" via WP:PROD. Someguy1221 (talk) 20:03, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We archive almost every page that has been deleted. And you can ask a moderator to email it to you. See WP:REFUND Poveglia (talk) 22:04, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
To put this in context, on 22 January the London Times reported under the headline "Abuse of power is a way of life - no wonder there's fury":

Almost every day, at least one "incident" - be it a quiet demonstration, an angry protest or even a riot - erupts somewhere. Many involve appropriation of land by a local government that has offered scant compensation.

Only this week villagers tossed petrol bombs in a clash in southern China that left ten injured. The bone of contention? Eviction. The county government wanted to move 108 families from their homes to make way for a "public project". The residents refused, saying the compensation was derisory.
