- In many depictions of Greek men wearing the Greek toga or himation, like this sculpture of Demosthenes and this depiction on a Greek vase, the right shoulder is left bare. Scipio Africanus being a Graecophile, and Roman togas being both impractical (heavy, hard to get dressed in) and uncomfortable in hot weather, he wore a himation.[1] He was not criticized merely for his non-Roman choice of dress, but also for this exemplifying a Greek lifestyle, abhorred by many Romans as unbecoming for a true Roman. --Lambiam 08:24, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
