I don't know the exact cover of this song used in the video you linked, but it's a Chinese children's song called 我有一只小毛驴 ("I Have a Little Donkey"). I've linked to one example of the song; hopefully you can find it. bibliomaniac15 19:15, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Snape drawling

edit

In the Harry Potter books and/or movies, is Severus Snape depicted as speaking with a drawl? Thanks. 2602:24A:DE47:BA60:8FCB:EA4E:7FBD:4814 (talk) 19:05, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To my ears, he sounds a lot like Alan Rickman. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots19:23, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks but I don't know what Rickman sounds like. I guess I can check youtube, but it could be that the drawl I'm asking about only shows up here and there. 2602:24A:DE47:BA60:8FCB:EA4E:7FBD:4814 (talk) 23:23, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't know what he sounds like, where did the "drawl" question come from? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots00:37, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen several fanfics in which Snape is described as drawling something, so I wondered whether that was "fanon", something from the Rowling novels ("canon"), or something from the movies. 2602:24A:DE47:BA60:8FCB:EA4E:7FBD:4814 (talk) 22:24, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alan Rickman, who portrayed Severus Snape in the films, is described in our article as having a deep, languid voice, which I think is a polite way of saying "drawl". In the Harry Potter films it increases the sardonic intensity of his snide remarks aimed at young Harry. I do not know if the books characterize Snape's manner of speaking.  --Lambiam 09:09, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
According to Playing Harry Potter: Essays and Interviews on Fandom and Performance, edited by Lisa S. Brenner (p. 67):
Rickman's dark voice and his slow manner of speaking are the result of a speech impediment, which is the reason that he cannot move his jaw properly.

Strange wording: surely the speech impediment is the result of not being able to move his jaw properly, not the reason for it. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 10:55, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the words of Maureen Paton, Rickman's unauthorized biographer, Alan was born with a tight jaw, hence the slightly muffled drawl: it must be one of the sexiest speech defects in the business.  --Lambiam 19:46, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So this must be a Londoner's idea of a "drawl"? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots20:14, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, thanks for this, it helps. 2602:24A:DE47:BA60:8FCB:EA4E:7FBD:4814 (talk) 22:36, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
