(American football) AFC west tiebreaker for Oakland & Denver

edit

If I read the standings correctly, if both Denver and Oakland win in the last week of regular NFL play, both teams will have very similar records: 9-7 overall, 4-2 in the division, and 7-5 in the conference. They split their two head-to-head games. I looked at the rules for tiebreakers, but I can't quite figure out the end result. (For one, I don't understand what "common ganes" means). At the end of the season, will Denver or Oakland win the tiebreaker and go to the playoffs, and why? RudolfRed (talk) 02:10, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Common games" means games against teams that the other team also played. One of Denver's losses was to Tennessee, a team Oakland did not play. So Denver would be 8-6 in common games while Oakland would be 7-7. So Denver would win a tiebreaker. -- Mwalcoff (talk) 02:44, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the answer, and the explanation. RudolfRed (talk) 07:31, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

eRROLL gARNER

hAD A 33 LP RECORD BY eRROLL Garner called Garnering. Any idea where I can get a copy of the same recording on CD? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.5.189.166 (talk) 02:30, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure of the album name? The discography on the Errol Garner wiki page doesn't list an album with that name. What year was the LP published? RudolfRed (talk) 03:20, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The tracks from the 1955 album "Garnering" are available on iTunes here. (I find many places to buy the LP, but no CDs.) — Michael J 03:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Fellowship of the Ring, deja vu at scene in Bree

edit

In the Peter Jackson movie, there is a scene where the black riders enter the Prancing Pony inn. They pass Barliman Butterbur who's hiding and shivering from fear. Every time I see that scene I get a strong feeling of deja vu, like I've seen four black-clad men with swords on a deadly mission, while someone is hiding. I might have seen it in some other movie a long time ago, but I'm not sure. Is there a scene like that in another movie or TV show, or is it just my memory playing tricks on me?--Sjö (talk) 11:58, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you're thinking of the cartoon version from the 70s?Snorgle (talk) 00:49, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. I saw it in 1978, and never had any desire to see it again. It might have had a similar scene, does anyone know?Sjö (talk) 07:33, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I seem to remember the same scene being in the cartoon, but I haven't seen it for years, and can't find it easily online.Snorgle (talk) 13:03, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The scene I'm talking about is at 0:35 in this clip. I found some Youtube versions of the scenes at Bree, but the scene wasn't there.Sjö (talk) 08:39, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Three Musketeers + D'Artagnan? Clarityfiend (talk) 02:30, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There's a scene in Braveheart where Mel Gibson's character rides a horse inside and smashes the face of his enemy in with a mace, who, understandable, was shivering in fear. StuRat (talk) 05:42, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not that one. It's not the shivering in fear bit, but the images and content of the scene that reminds me of something.Sjö (talk) 07:33, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A little late to the party here, but I watched the LOTR clip and I too get the sense that I've seen it before. I can't put my finger on it, but for some reason I feel like it was animated. Maybe in that animated section of Pink Floyd's The Wall movie? Or the Heavy Metal movie? Have you seen either one of those? Quinn STARRY NIGHT 18:23, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I saw Heavy Metal back in 1981 but I don't think I've seen The Wall. Could it be from Taarna in Heavy Metal, maybe? Sjö (talk) 09:04, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Movie Title

edit

Hi there

Early in the 80s or possibly up to late 90s I saw a somewhat drama fantasy movie that remained impressed on me but unfortunately I lost the title and most important the names of actors invoved. What I can remember is a young woman with some memories of domestic violence, a mother involved and a vision (possibly in a dream) of a bunch of doors pointing out one to open perhaps signifying and age in life, if this is correct of course. All this is rather confusing but the ending of this movie is somewhat odd. The daughter became an old woman says “Hello” to the mother being a young woman. This ending is in colour whilst many scenes in the film are black and white. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

edit

...is to please tell me where I might find complete synopses of movies with full spoilers, especially for the latest Mission Impossible film. I often watch a movie, and zone out for one bit, or just don't get what's happening, and I often want to read up on it on the 'net afterwards, to at least find out what I just watched. I have tried IMDB, but most of the reviews contain very few spoilers, and there's no way of searching for just those reviews with a detailed synopsis. Specifically, I want to know what Ethan Hunt was doing climbing the Burj Khalifa (minor spoiler alert here, but it's nothing much). I found a review that said he was trying "to gain access to the building's system", whatever that means, but I didn't get how that helped him. So if you can fill me in on just that bit of the film, that would be great, but ideally, I'm trying to find a website that just does the full spoiler for any film you care to name. This message will self-destruct. IBE (talk) 23:20, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In general, wikipedia articles on movies tend to give away the endings. That's a brand new movie. As more editors see it, more details will be added and then pared down to result (hopefully) in a nicely succinct plot description that gives away at least some of the "secrets". It might also be worthwhile to pose that question on the article talk page. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 23:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They were trying to convince a woman with Russian missile launch codes, and the man who wanted to buy them, that THEY (the MI team) were the respective people they were supposed to meet to make an exchange. In order to do that, they switched hotel room numbers in the Burj, and wanted to hack into the hotel's computer system so that they could control the elevators so the two people would go to the rooms that the MI team were in, instead of into the real rooms. But the Burj's computer system was impossible to hack into from the outside. They had to break into the system by actually getting into the computer room, but they had to come in through the window in order to do that. Does that help? The Mark of the Beast (talk) 03:58, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, perfect :):). Still interested in the spoiler website, if anyone knows one. IBE (talk) 13:54, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Movie Spoiler website specialises in spoilers and plot summaries for recent films. You could try MovieSummary.net as well. --Colapeninsula (talk) 18:19, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Totally cool, and now for some reason it comes up on google. Don't know what I was doing before, but I couldn't find it by searching. IBE (talk) 03:02, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
