Wikipedia:Peer review/Manila Metropolitan Theater/archive1

I've listed this article for peer review because it is my first time editing an article on a building so I would love to get some constructive feedback. I also plan to eventually nominate this article for GA status.

Hello! I'm investigating using GPT-4 for ChatGPT-assisted article reviews, and have fed it your article for analysis. Here's what it said:

"The article provides a comprehensive overview of the Manila Metropolitan Theater's history, architecture, and restoration efforts. However, there are a few suggestions for improvement and additional information:

  • In the sentence "The Metropolitan Theater Company raised ₱1 million to fund the project through community efforts, including fundraising dinners and the selling of stock to the public at affordable rates, Class A shares for ₱100.00, and Class B shares for ₱5.00 par value.", consider revising it to: "The Metropolitan Theater Company raised ₱1 million to fund the project through community efforts, including fundraising dinners and selling stock to the public at affordable rates, offering Class A shares for ₱100.00 and Class B shares for ₱5.00 par value."
  • In the sentence "The goal of the NCCA-led restoration was to conserve the building and restore it to its pre-war state as designed by Juan M. Arellano.", consider revising it to: "The goal of the NCCA-led restoration was to preserve the building and restore it to its pre-war state, as designed by Juan M. Arellano."
  • Original sentence: "The Japanese authorities also used the Metropolitan Theater for cultural and political activities." Suggested revision: "The Japanese authorities utilized the Metropolitan Theater for various cultural and political activities during their occupation."

  • Original sentence: "DBM released the amount to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), who could exercise their right of first refusal on the sale of national cultural treasures based on the National Cultural Heritage Act." Suggested revision: "The DBM released the funds to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), which, according to the National Cultural Heritage Act, held the right of first refusal on the sale of national cultural treasures."
  • Original sentence: "On opposite sides of the foyer are two mural paintings of future National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, The Dance and The History of Music." Suggested revision: "Displayed on opposite sides of the foyer are two mural paintings by future National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, titled 'The Dance' and 'The History of Music.'"
  • Original sentence: "The grillwork in the foyer includes drooping floral balustrade in a geometric Art Deco style, originally wrought by Arcadio Arellano, brother and collaborator of the Met's architect Juan M. Arellano." Suggested revision: "The foyer's grillwork features a drooping floral balustrade in a geometric Art Deco style, originally crafted by Arcadio Arellano, the brother and collaborator of the Met's architect, Juan M. Arellano."

Additional information that could be incorporated into the article:

  • Highlight any significant performances or events that have taken place at the Metropolitan Theater since its reopening in 2021.
  • Include information about the theater's current programming, such as the types of performances and events it hosts and any partnerships or affiliations with local or international arts organizations.
  • Discuss the economic and cultural impact of the Metropolitan Theater's restoration and reopening on the local community and the broader Philippines arts scene. This could include information about increased tourism, job creation, or the theater's role in promoting Filipino culture and artistic talent.
  • Mention any awards or recognitions the Metropolitan Theater has received for its architectural and historical significance or for the quality of its performances and programming.
  • Provide information on any upcoming restoration or improvement projects planned for the Metropolitan Theater, such as plans to further develop the surrounding area, modernize facilities, or expand programming.

Incorporating these suggestions and additional information will provide readers with a more complete understanding of the Manila Metropolitan Theater's current status and ongoing role in the Philippines' cultural landscape."

I have no personal opinion about validity of these suggestions; let me know if they were useful for improving the article. Esculenta (talk) 22:05, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, amazing! Those are great suggestions. May I ask how you fed the article into ChatGPT for the comments? It is a great tool moving forward. Kting97 (talk) 18:04, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, in this case it was simple copy-paste (after a little formatting), and then natural English-language questions to ask how the article might be improved. Since then I've installed "WebChatGPT: ChatGPT" (use with Chrome) as an extension to GPT4, and it can access the page directly. Esculenta (talk) 18:20, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will look into using it as I edit. I guess the only thing that I need to consider is that I have to double check with some sources that the suggestions from ChatGPT are not plagiarizing or are not too similar to the source. Kting97 (talk) 18:29, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's true, but on the other hand, you can give it some text and ask it to completely rewrite the text while maintaining the original meaning–it is very good at this. Esculenta (talk) 18:32, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Two points; first, I'll take a look at the article and leave comments. Second, a note of caution re. AI-generated reviews, see this discussion. I will reflag the issue at the GAN Talkpage, as I'm not sure where, if anywhere, the discussion ended up. Regards. KJP1 (talk) 04:45, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
