Wikipedia:Peer review/Dundee/archive1

General comments very welcome, but especially regarding the 2nd half of the article, eg External links. --Mais oui! 16:51, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

General comments. It needs to cite sources, and phrases like " is said to " need to be copyedited. --Bob 18:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • It can be improved by reducing links to solitary years. A monobook tool allows this to be done with one click on a 'dates' tab in edit mode. You can then accept or reject the changes offered and/or do more editing before pressing 'Save'. Simply copy the entire contents of User:Bobblewik/monobook.js to your own monobook. Then follow the instructions in your monobook to clear the cache (i.e. press Ctrl-Shift-R in Firefox, or Ctrl-F5 in IE) before it will work. Hope that helps. bobblewik 19:31, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I tidied the opening paragraph up a little; there were a few basic errors as regards use of parentheses, placement of a <ref> tag, etc. I think the rest of the article should be checked too.
  1. As stated above, needs more references, and cited properly using the <ref> tag. See the <!-- embedded comments --> which another editor has helpfully inserted for assistance here.
  2. Shrink the size of the Dundee City Square photo - it's far too big, especially on smaller screens (look at the page in a non-maximised browser window at, say 800x600, to see what I mean). 250-300px is as big as it needs to be.
  3. You've wikilinked to First Division in the football section, although this is a disambiguation page. It should point to Scottish Football League First Division. That's at a glance - there may be other wikilinks which need repairing.
  4. There's a few minor POV words I noticed: "Robert Falcon Scott's famous Antarctic exploration vessel..." (don't assume it's famous, others may dispute this); "Another interesting fact is that Dundee is also one of only three British cities..." (don't assume it's interesting, others may dispute this); and "Dundee has a true claim to pop fame..." (don't assume it's a true claim, others may dispute this).
This isn't a complete review, just a cursory examination. However, I spotted enough to think that the page needs to be nitpickingly copyedited before it goes further. Hope this helps. -- DeLarge 20:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, many thanks. --Mais oui! 20:48, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not sure if anyone's still watching this page but the article has undergone a major overhaull since this peer review was requested. It'd be nice if you could take another look and offer any further input Ydam 01:05, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
