Wikipedia:Peer review/Autism rights movement/archive1

Rather comprehensive. Comments welcome. Ryan Norton T | @ | C 06:30, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about the issue, but the article seems to make a number of very broad statements, such as "Most parents of young children diagnosed autistic appear to be against the movement's views, however.".

Also, there would need to be some data about the number of people involved, and in which countries in the world. David.Monniaux 11:56, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I need a better map to navigate this article. It jumps back and forth between discussions of autism-rights organizations, various tenets of the movement, events in the movement's history, and discussion of various controversies in the movement. It badly needs a cleaner narrative thread running through it. Who is involved? What do they believe? What are some controversies (briefly, please)? I'd try to get it down to maybe four or five top-level sections, instead of the many I see now. I suspect the "Speculation of possible famous autistic people" section might be better somewhere else, and briefly mentioned here with a discussion of why this speculation is important to the autism rights movement; the details about who is speculated about and why seems less relevant. Thanks to everyone for thier thoughtful opinion on the issues!! I'm going to end this early, as I believe we have more than enough for a while. Thanks again! Ryan Norton T | @ | C 08:30, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While not an objective article,by any stretch of the imagination, this is the first truly honest piece, editorial, blog entry or otherwise,I have read about the ARM.As a someone who was severely autistic, well into adulthood, was diagnosed as a child, has family members with both bipolar disease, and fragile x,and has suffered with severe autoimmune disease,I represent someone who has been shut out from the ARM.If there is to be an ARM,it truly needs to recognize the autism SPECTRUM,as one that includes not only aspies, but those of us with genetic autism, and other serious comorbid medical conditions. If the writer of this article wishes to work with me towards this aim,I can be reached at rkdkos at gmail dot com.
