As trusted knowledge mediators, libraries have a responsibility to help improve the presence of Canadian culture on Wikimedia platforms. In this edit-a-thon, participants will work on ensuring that the 2019 Juno nominees are represented on Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikipedia. This event is free and open to everyone.

When: Tuesday, March 12, 2019 | 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Location: The D.B. Weldon Library Atrium (main floor by the entrance)

Donating data to Wikidata

Wikidata is a free, collaborative, multilingual, secondary database, collecting structured data to provide support for Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, the other wikis of the Wikimedia movement, and to anyone in the world.

Editing is the best way to learn about Wikidata and concepts of structured data, so go ahead and start editing!

Add the albums of JUNO Award nominees to Wikidata edit

Before adding an album to Wikidata, first search the database to see if the item already exists.

  • If the item does not exist, go ahead and create it.
  • If the album already has a Wikidata item, consider adding more statements to it.

Wikimedia Commons edit

Wikipedia Commons is a repository of digital material. It is primarily made up of images. If you want to illustrate your Wikipedia article, you need to add it to Commons first. A point to remember:

  • You must have permission of the rights holder to upload, or the content must be in the public domain or freely licensed.
