Wikipedia:Japanese Surname Policy/Proposal

I would like to propose that Wikipedia creates a standardization within its articles on Japanese name order. In Japan, the name order is surname first, given name second, and while I personally feel this is the best order to put Japanese names, it would also be acceptable to have the Western name order of given name first, surname second. I do feel however, that there should be some standard order as at the moment it seems to be a disorganized 50/50 split as the current situation is not really in the spirit of Wikipedia.

Before suggesting any changes, please be sure to read the extensive current and archived discussion (for example, at Wikipedia:Manual of Style for Japan-related articles/Name order). We have a clear decision that historical names will be in surname, given name order. We do not have a decision about modern names and welcome additional points of view.
