When and where will the answer be found?

edit

i recently asked a history Q., when and where will the answer be found? (in e-mail, somewhere on WIKI?) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfragd (talkcontribs) 02:28, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Answers are usually placed where you asked. Click "my contributions" at the top to see your edits which show you asked (twice but the duplicate was removed) at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous#soviets. Your browser may cache pages so you have to bypass your cache to see later changes to the page. All editors are volunteers. There is no knowing when or if they will respond. help with table

edit

In the last column of this table Russia_(USSR)_vs_Rest_of_the_World#Round-by-round_match_scores I want "+2", etc, but without the quotation marks. If I leave off the quotation marks, the table doesn't come out right (the numbers are above the table). How can I get these in there with the plus signs but without the quote marks? Put a space between the pipe | and the +. –Turian (talk) 03:26, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to create a redirect page for "Freida" to Frida (disambiguation), but I get sent to FREIDA without the usual notice that the page doesn't exist and the opportunity to create a new one. Am I going to have to create a subpage and then move it? Clarityfiend (talk) 04:06, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too much text breaks table formatting?

edit

I've been working on expanding the episode summaries at List of Metalocalypse episodes. I finished up season 1 and started working on season 2, but the new episodes are half an hour long, instead of fifteen minutes as they were before. This means longer descriptions to cover all the significant plot details. Once I got to the third episode, I noticed that if I added any more text to the teaser description already present, the table formatting got all messed up. I don't understand why the amount of text in the field would matter. The text I want to add is here, and the section I want to add it to is here. Thanks for any help you can provide. AzureFury (talk | contribs) 05:20, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The wikilink to cyanide is malformed in the text you are trying to add, it only has one closing ']' instead of two. That seems to be causing the breakage. Winston365 (talk) 05:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, I am freakin blind. Nice catch. AzureFury (talk | contribs) 05:36, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Transfer of an image to Commons.

edit

Hello, I would like to transfer the image File:EFB1947.jpg to Commons, the description says that the uploader gave the image for free use for any purpose, this should be sufficient to transfer it to Commons for use in all wikipedias. I'm asking what is the procedure to be followed. Thank you and greetings, --Gabodon (talk) 08:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Nanonic (talk) 11:18, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved it for you, using Commons helper.  Chzz  ►  12:03, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help protecting article (security issue)

edit

Could an experienced Wikipedian take a look at the Talk page for the article on the topic "OpenDNS"? Skip down to the section "Edit protect". I'm completely lost. This page's content represents a security hazard and the contributors would like some help.CecilWard (talk) 10:24, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CecilWard - you can request page protection at Requests for Page Protection, or if you want to suggest some material be permanently removed from a page and its history, consider oversighting. Gonzonoir (talk) 10:41, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a suggestion to the talk page. I think protection is unnecessary; others may disagree. SS(Kay) 10:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The addresses are now transcluded from a protected template. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 14:58, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i'm a student.DO you think I can depend on wikipedia ,specially on physics, chemistry and maths ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coolerking.dany (talkcontribs) 14:31, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, use it as a starting point to find references. They are usually listed at the end of articles. The articles can help you provide extra insight or understanding. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 14:47, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Newsbank

edit

Can somebody with Newsbank access please help with Cameron Scott's request at WP:RS. BlackJack has claimed that his site called 'From Lad's to Lord's' was mentioned in the Daily Mail in 2008 and the Observer in 2009 as "a compendium of early cricket match references, or words to that effect". --88.111.56.49 (talk) 17:39, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If such a reference exists, I can't find it. Specifically, I used Newsbank to search the Mail, Mail on Sunday and Observer for the words "from lad's to lord's". It found 6 results, none relating to the site. I will expand the search somewhat now. - Jarry1250 [Humorous? Discuss.] 18:24, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stamps from Nyassa

Hello.

On this page - Compendium_of_postage_stamp_issuers_(Ni_–_Nz) it says that for Nyassa a main article is needed. I know about Nyassa's stamps, and am happy to write an article, but where should it be? What should the title be? And are there any other pages that should link to it? I know Nyassa (talk) 18:19, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The best place to ask is probably Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Philately. – ukexpat (talk) 18:24, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BUB (Belgian Union)

edit

Hello,

As a representative of this Belgian political party, I would like to point out to you that the reference on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bub to the page "Belgian Union" does not function.

Thanks beforehand.

Best regards,

Article problem

edit

HI

I've tried to create a page but it's stuck here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fiedorczuk/The_Playing_Fields_(Band)

I don't want a user page, I just want to create a band page for The Playing Fields

In any case, when I search I can't find the page any how. I can only find it at all through a bookmark.

Please help, just want to create a standard band page

Thanks

Fiedorczuk —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fiedorczuk (talkcontribs) 19:00, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's ready to be moved to the mainspace yet: first, it's not clear that the band meets the notability guidelines set out at WP:BAND; second, it is very promotional in tone - the quotations from reviews are just not encyclopedic. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 19:17, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've checked the notability criteria and the band fulfil points: 1, 4, 6, 10 & 12. I've added more references too- more to follow. Does this help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fiedorczuk (talkcontribs) 16:35, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to be an Einstein to figure this out

edit

What's wrong with the image at Einstein#Patent office? The coding looks identical to what was in the prior version, but it just doesn't work. Clarityfiend (talk) 23:02, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How odd. When I preview a minor change, the picture appears. When I save, the code appears again. Hmm. TNXMan 23:09, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed it. The previous change had removed the ]] for an earlier image which affected the display of both. --Mysdaao talk 23:14, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
