Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Coordinator
This page has been closed down by community consensus, and is retained only for historical reference. If you wish to restart discussion on the status of this page, seek community input at a forum such as the village pump. The coordinator position was eliminated by consensus on the main DRN talk page in December, 2018-January, 2019. |
The DRN coordinator is a rotating volunteer position at the dispute resolution noticeboard. They act as an organiser and maintainer of the process. They don't hold any special authority or power over others, and serve only to organise the process in a more effective and efficient way, and act as a contact point for the community in general.
Tasks
editNote that these tasks are not exclusive to the coordinator. Any volunteer can do any of them at any time, it's just the coordinator's job to insure that they get done as needed.
- Volunteers
- Maintain the list of DRN volunteers.
- Send out participation drives when necessary.
- Help new volunteers learn DRN practices, procedures, and customs.
- Tip: While any Wikipedia editor can be a DRN volunteer, its often wise to suggest to new volunteers who are also newcomers or relative newcomers to Wikipedia that they might find it easier to learn the DR ropes by giving opinions at Third Opinion for a while before jumping in at DRN.
- Conduct regular Roll calls to filter out inactive volunteers. (This list may be used in order to conduct it via mass message system. Regular volunteer TransporterMan is a Mass Message Sender and can send the message or you can request some other MM Sender to do so.)
- Participants
- Check in with participants who are yet to weigh in on discussions to make sure that they have been notified; if participants have not been notified remind the filing editor that it is his or her obligation to notify them or, alternatively, notify them yourself.
- Tip: It's a very good idea to watch for new listings and to check each participant's talk page for notification without waiting for them to join in. It is very common for participants not to be notified.
- Tip: If you do have to notify any participants manually and it's been more than a day or two since the dispute was first listed, consider moving the "Do Not Archive Until" date in the dispute header forward by that number of days.
- Help answer any process questions or concerns.
- General
- Ensure all disputes are handled in a timely and efficient manner.
- Lend a hand with controlling incivility, if needed.
- Flag any disputes that need attention.
- Refer complex/lengthy disputes to the Mediation Committee, if appropriate.
- Technical
- Watch for and correct edits which break the page format or interfere with the maintenance bots.
- Update Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Coordinator/Current when taking on coordinator spot.
- Modify this task list with tips, suggestions, and additional tasks gained through one's experience as coordinator.
Service recognition
editIndividuals who have served as Coordinator are entitled to a Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Award. Coordinators are entitled to a Grade 1 award, with an additional grade increase for each repeated service as coordinator up to Grade 3. The next-following coordinator should give the award to his predecessor, but it may also be self-awarded.
I want to be the coordinator

The coordinator will be a rotating role, changeover to happen on the 1st of every second month. List your name below for the months, on the 1st of the respective month, the current coordinator will be updated on the DRN page. It will be best if you are active as a volunteer at DRN for at least the month preceding the date on which you are to take over the coordinator position so that you are familiar with the current issues, trends, and pending cases; if you are unable to do that, please consider posting a note to the DRN talk page asking for someone who has been active to take the position in your place.
